I am wanting to complete this build, obviously prices on gen movements are too pricey. I have read about putting in 2824-2 movements. Is this relatively easy? alligoat Posted September 2, 2021 Report Share Posted September 2, 2021 The biggest challenge is placing the date wheel overlay on the movement- check rafflesdials.com, they have the flat top 3, open 6/9 overlay whichis pretty close to the gen one. Overlays - Page 1 - Raffles Dials I think this #2 movement ring will work to keep the 2824 in place. Movement Ring for ETA 2824 / 2836 or others that fit Size#2 | eBay A few screws and movement tabs can also be picked up on ebay. alligoat Posted September 3, 2021 Report Share Posted September 3, 2021 I don't know. Typically DWOs are a little more tricky on the 2824 than on the 2836. If you used a spacer, you might have to swap over to a H4 canon pinion which is taller, but I'm not a watchmaker so I can't say for sure what challenges you'll encounter. This is because the 2836-2/2846 has a closer crown/stem/tube height to a gen 1500 / 15000 case, so it is less finicky to fit. On top of that, I recommend using the Helenarou movement ring (https://www.helenarou.com/eta-adapter-for-genuine-or-clone-rolex-5512-5515512551355141680.html) with the 1500 case. You might need to sand the inner and outer diameter of the movement ring to ensure a nicer/ snug fit. Furthermore, here are the advantages of 2836-2/2846 movement: - 2836-2/ 2846 movements have quick date flips at midnight like gen, unlike the 2824-2 where the date flips are gradual. - 2836/ 2846 comes with taller H3 (or sometimes H4) cannon pinion and seconds wheel, which makes the hands clearing the dial easier For your motivation, here is my superfranken 1500: - Gen everything (including the 7835 bracelet and hands) - Modified ETA 2846 lowbeat movement (to fit gen hands and to remove the quick-set date function, like gen 1570 movement) - Cartel open 6/9 DWO - Modified Helenarou movement ring Edited July 31, 2022 by pompompurin 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

More Trivia along that line... A rolex 15000 case made for a cal 3035 is very close to the same as a 1500 case so if you run across a 15000 case it will also work with an ETA 2836. Dial diameters are the same and they both have the same 5.3mm crowns and 19mm bracelet hoods. The 1500 takes a 25-117 crystal and the 15000 takes a 25-145. The 15200 case with cal 3135 is different besides having a sapphire crystal. The cal 3135 is thinner than a 3035 or 1575 so the stem may not/will not line up in the case tube when using an ETA 2836. A case made for a cal 3135 will usually take an ETA 2824. An ETA 2836 will usually work in a case made for a cal 1575 date or rlx 3035. No guarantees. I have a rolex 15200 case with a (Mido) ETA 12892, it all fits fine and the 12892 has been out of production for years so they are hard to find but it is the same basic movement as an ETA 2892/2892-A2. The watch was put together by another RWG member who has been absent for years...'Stilty'. He also made the famous 'Stilty Spacer' a CNC made spacer to adapt an ETA 28xx to a rolex case. He sent me the unsold spacers when he left the forum and I put them where I could find them...but I can't find them.
