Alright, I'm back on the panerai wagon...

Hey guys!

I normally don't ask these kinds of questions on the board, but I have been away from the Panerai section for a while now and I am probably going to order a couple models from big D...

Had (and still have) a couple 196's, 188's, & 212's... Basically, anything that would stop working if worn for more than 6 minutes... F**king Asian Chrono! had to resort to $wiss models...

Anyway, I have been away from Panerai and all of the latest updates...

So, I am thinking of buy a couple between these models... all "Swiss" movements, not Asian...

111H - not too happy about clear case back, but if movement looks right and has the all the correct features, i can deal with it... thoughts? suggestions?

177H - same as above... also, have heard that the titanium isn't the same color as gen... thoughts? suggestions?

001 - pretty much the 005 in my eyes, but with solid case back... thoughts? suggestions?

005 - pretty much the 001 in my eyes, but with "updated" solid case back AND logo which i really like... thoughts? suggestions?

Just give me the negatives on each model...

Thank you for sharing your time , thoughts, & suggestions with me!!! much appreciated!!!

Hi Poopypants, hope u are good buddy...

Personally, I prefer the 001. I like the closed caseback, and the old dial printing is perfect ---> I'm talking about the models that EL and River had a few years ago.

With a relume, canon pinion fix and crown upgrade, you can have a perfect PAM.

Ok, since u asked, here's the 001 negative(s):

- Caseback has a stupid serial number (2000 outta 3000). Yeah, lucky me. I got #2000 outta 3000. Ok, it's possible, but come on.

- U need about $200 in mods to perfect the older style watch

-Cheers

I guess you were unlucky with that serial, I've got 3 S/S solid casebacks that came on 001B, 002B and 009B, serials 1176, 1700, and 1139...so I guess I was at least just a bit luckier in that respect.

001 is still tops the list in 'poopypants' post in my case. With some extra $100-150 (depending on a modder) you'll end up with one of the closest ever PAM reps made. Also crowns and CGs that came on those older 001 and 111 are much closer to gens.

005 comes close, but with that skewed logo, it doesn't do it for me. 111/117H are both poor cousins of 001B and 111F series reps...the issues have been written about to a large extent here and on other forums.

cheers,

babola

Hey guys!

First, kinda weird about the serials... but then again, you never really know what you are getting...

Lately, i have been leaning towards the 001 and 005 because of the solid caseback...

I am going to take a better look at the logo and see how "skewed" it is...

How do the Davidsen models size up to the earlier models???

Whichever model i order, i will have the cannon pinion fixed and a decent CG and Crown installed... Davidsen offers that as "upgraded" work... Not sure how correct it is... But, that just leaves the lume! but Dav offers that, as well... teehee

Damn, got all these straps, and nothing good to put them on!!! need to get on this asap!

thanks guys!
