Two watches : Pick the rep, Pick the gen :)

The 111h looks very nice. Wear it well. But make no mistake a rep is never a gen. Forget the A issue on the dial which is the case on most reps. On any series later than a C the level of consistency and quality on the parts improved dramatically. Vendome finally got the supply chain under control. The crown and CG pin are always instant giveaways after the C's. Further, as an H no one has ever made a properly proportioned crown guard. As good as a Palp crown is it is not close either in proportion or finish to a gen. This is not to say that a gen is necessarily worth it. You are paying a lot more. It is better finished though. For all those reasons the majority of PAM reps I keep and mod are C or earlier. With the lack of consistency in the earlier series (PAM constantly changed suppliers) a rep is going to be more realistic. And for that same reason I have always bought D and later gens - not that I have the money for the 3646 I recently saw.

And yes, 005 is absolutely gen.

I fully agree with the patchy quality of the A - C series. I have a 029 with one of 'your' crowns Kruzer and this has caused me to examine every photo of gens that I have seen. On the gen 029, which were A & B series only, the crown thickness varies significantly and my 029 has a gen 111F CG which has a more flush pin than any original 029B. BTW the gen CG fits the gen crown on the rep 029 perfectly, without any adjustment of the lever.

The 111h was expensive but well worth it considering the cost of our other reps now.

It is am OEM cashmere....you are right.

I am probably only going to keep one....

Hey! Voting after they've been tallied only counts in Chicago! ;)

Kru, PamMan, and Sssurfer -- amazing thread. Eye-opening and hopefully, one day I will have your "eye" for details.

This thread proves again and again how ever much we think we know, some truly can't tell a gen from a rep. However, for ME, the finish of the 005 seemed far and above the 111h.

I mean, when you look at a gen, you get, I don't know, the same kind of tingle you get inside the pit of your stomach as when you hit a golf shot cleanly.

Without sounding like Kevin Costner in Tin Cup, it's a feeling that is indescribable, and makes you want to do it/look at it, again and again, because it's perfection.

Yay, got it right, kinda. ;)

I would say, sell the Croc. The OEM Cashmere may get you more money (too bad it's not the 26mm Fiddy size, because that commands amazing moneys on Risti's Accessories Corner), but the OEM Croc sells lightning quick.

Not interested in either, but good luck! Great straps.
