FWATCH Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 It seems a pair of enterprising elderly New Yorkers came up with an interesting scam. One of their roommates had just died with an uncashed Social Security check in the mailbox. Not wanting the money to be unclaimed, and possibly living on a fixed income, one of the gents tried to cash the deceased's check at the local check cashing parlor. Unfortunately, the proprietor wouldn't cash the check without seeing the person to whom it was issued. Not a problem. They put the dead guy in an office chair, and wheeled him back down the street to cash the check, apparantly hoping that the proprietor wouldn't notice that THE GUY WAS DEAD. One of New York's Finest, enjoying a meal in a restaurant, noticed this unusual behavior and called his buddies at the local precinct, and the alleged scam artists were arrested. It just goes to show you what some folks will do to get their hands on a couple bucks. I wonder what they were charged with.
