Omega Railmaster 39,2 mm - Pictorial and review.

Dear All,

Here some information about my latest acquisition, the Omega Railmaster.

Introduction

After having owned a lot of different watches, and realise that few were truly getting wrist time, I am almost afraid to buy a new one.

At the Brussels GTG I saw this watch in person.

Andy helped me a lot to avoid the wrong versions and I decided to order one from Precious Time.

The genuine

From OmegaWatches.com

Reference: 2803.52.37

Caliber: Omega 2403 A

The deal with Precious Time UK

Not much to say. Friendly and easy.

As usual with PT, if he has the watch in stock in UK, it take two days, if not it takes up to 3 weeks.

It was not in stock but arrived in due time.

The Rep

According to what I read, the genuine has no AR (anti-reflect coating). :o

Never mind, I want AR and while waiting for the watch, I planned to send it right away to Jakub.

Oops, it seems it will not be necessary. This watch has a very strong AR, almost as good as Jakub's or Chieftang's.

Where the hell is the crystal?

OmegaRailmaster_800_10.jpg

A simple watch, with a simple dial, is very difficult to replicate usually.

But the dial of this one seems very accurate to me.

The hour markers are perfect, look at some details :)

The case back is a see thru one, like the original one.

Of course, the movement is an immediate tell, but who cares :bangin:

OmegaRailmaster_800_02.jpg

Having said that, the Eta 2836-2 is looking very nice in my opinion, don't you think so too?

OmegaRailmaster_600_02.jpg

About the case, I have no critic, it's very well finished in my opinion and the crown looks "ok".

OmegaRailmaster_800_19.jpg

The tube/crown combo doesn't look very solid though and to be honest, it might strip very fast.

Screwing the crown back is a pain "where you know". Well, it doesn't really bother me.

I never expect a perfect rep anyway and sending it back would lead to another problem maybe so

Good read mate, to point point out a couple of diferences between mine and yours.

Your strap looks just fantastic, mine was a freebe from pix, (thanks mate)

My lume lasts realy well, have a look in the morning after 6 hours sleep, i expect you will be able to tell the time.

Your AR is top gear mine is minimal.

My tube and crown feel just like the a gen, try a drop of oil and couple of weeks.

Your pictures are ace!!!!!!!!!

You will never get called out with this on, never in million years!!!!!!!!

Very nice review! It's ironic that factories are putting AR on watches that don't need it now, they've gone mad for the stuff

Yes, that is absolutely crazy but it's part of our fun I guess !

It makes a better watch though, the standard gen could realy do with AR

Totaly agree.

Months ago I was looking at Chief like an alien. "Why would I want AR?"

Now, I would even add AR to my Rolies

The one with the ETA movement is about 250 USD. But if you're ready to go on cqout (I don't know the seller's capabilities) there's exactly the same with an asian movement for 75 GBP. I was hesitating. But finally got an offer from my usual dealer which I could not refuse.

I have always been a fan of railmaster 39mm, really a nice and classy watch and i have 2 of them (old version with seagull and sn engraved on lugs). Actually one belongs to my father and the other one is still waiting for a crystal.

I am so jelous of your shapphire. :D

Just some more very minor flaws:

- lume on markers and numbers should be a little more raised (but this is a dream in replica world)

- "Railmaster" writing is a bit off

- not sure if your dial is matte or glossy but i have the impression is not the exact matte black of the genuine.

I bought a spare dial from a dealer and has the same little difference.

No need to say these are very hard to notice for "common" people.

Wear it well mate ;)

Would you confirm me the lugs size ?

Hi Pix, it's 20 mm?

- not sure if your dial is matte or glossy but i have the impression is not the exact matte black of the genuine.

Hey Ryaku, under the loupe it looks pretty matte to me. Maybe it needs a little varnish though.

A rep dial is never close to the finish of a genuine from what I noticed :(

Cheers

Stephane i can't speak for your dial considering the very good ar coating and that nice blue hue.

If you say it's matte i'm sure it is. :)

Regarding my spare dial it' s not glossy buut neither matte like genuine dial. It's a bit disappointing and that's why i'm looking for a genuine dial (hard to get, i've seen one in months on the bay and i missed the auction cause i'm an idiot).

To be clear, my Iwc 3717 (or Upo dial) is a good example of what i mean for a accurate black matte dial.

Thank you very much for your time Stephane.. the pics are great as is your review

I agree whole heartedly with your assesment of this Replication.. the maker did a great job of it

the font on the dial is very crisp and the lume is first rate (for out of the box)

The rep straps that come with the Railmaster 39.2 IMHO is the best reptile grain bar none....

If I may add and share with you my Railmaster in 39.2 and 47 mm or 49 mm cannot remember.. it is oversized for my wrist ... but at the price who could resist??

Hey Lani,

Thanks for the kind words.

I am a bit lazy these days but I wouldn't mind to get the BigBrother too one of these days.

I should make some research and see "who's got the best BigBrother"!

Having said that, 49,2 MM :o ...that is a serious animal!

I wonder if I could wear that

Cheers

As promised to Ryaku, I compared the dials of the 3717 and uPO to this RailMaster 39,2 MM.

(Sorry for taking so long)

The verdict is that the Raimaster dial's color is deep black.

More black than the 3717 & uPO.

I still think my RailMaster is matte too by the way.

So I tried to take some photos of the three watches but completely failed.

The result is bad and doesn't really help :(

OmegaRailmaster_800_17.jpg

What is obvious though is that all of them have Anti Reflect coating :)

It is very very blueish isn't it :o

OmegaRailmaster_800_18.jpg

Cheers

Stephane

PS: I added some photos of the crown in the first post.

Gosh, three of my favourite watches in the same pic :o

Railmster's coating looks awesome here, i gotta grab a spare crystal like that.

Thanks Stephane for the beautiful pics, always a pleasure comparing different watches, i'm a fan of group shots. ;)

Regarding the difference in color you can see what i mean looking at this pic found on the net: genuine dial looks a bit grainy

to do a little comparison.. it would seem like the sunlight brings out the texture of colour you are discussing ryaku.. look at the area around the 12 and 1 marker.. seems like in more natural lighting the dial takes on this look.. I'll try for a pic in the sunlight tomorriow..
