LegendofSpeed
Just got this back from The Zigmeister in yesterday's mail... The watch is not a finished project yet... there was an issue with the alignment on the datewheel so lello is advance exchanging one for me and I will have to get it installed locally.... i also have the gen crown guard for this watch that is still in the blister packs from Panerai to be installed... This watch was my grail and was purchased a few months ago on RWG... i sent it, along with a watchman cyclops (chieftang wasn't able to get his cyclops project done in time for it to be included), a gen SS crown, and the lello datewheel... it was also lumed while with The Zigmeister... This has been the culmination of a year of working on this... the project hit a severe detour when my wife accidentally tossed my container containing the parts for the project... in the end it was my fault and now all parts are safeguarded... lesson learned... Back in September of last year, I was done with this hobby... I was getting out and beginning to sell off... I sold a Rolex box I had to chinkiechunkie, who happened to live 3 minutes away from me.... I started talking to him and he showed me his Ziggified 063... I had given up on my project and ever having it done.... when I saw that watch, I said to myself that I must complete it... and so I did... I got myself more involved again in the hobby again and developing my knowledge of Panerai, my favorite brand.... Now, 7 months later, I have a almost completed Ziggified 2893-2 powered 063 in my hand and I'm on staff on one of the boards.... I love all the communities and the preople it attracts... for the most part that is... Well, enough about me... here's the watch...
dluddy
Isn't it fun when a project like this comes to fruition. Congrats on a beautiful piece.
LegendofSpeed
it is my friend, it is... it's not all the way done yet.... one of the great things about it is that i opened the package with my wife right there... she was happy for me because she knows how much it meant to get this close to the finish line... then she proceeded to follow me to the bathroom for the lume check.... and then asked when her 050 is going.... yikes! Stephane
Very nice story and a beautifull watch. I know what you mean "almost done with this hobby". But you are right, there are some great relationship that can be build in this community. I wish you all the best and sincerely hope you'll see the finish line. Having said that, open a blister from Panerai must be hard ...you don't see these each day Cheers Stephane

robertb
Awesome story, thanks for sharing it. The watch will be a stunner when finished, please post a before and after with the gen CG..
sssurfer
Excellent! Please consider that on a 063 a watchmen cyclops (6mm diameter) is even more accurate to the gen than a chieftang cyclops, and that it would benefit 100% from a single-side AR, as the AR will make all the annoying reflections in/from the cyclops disappear. Watchmeister
Sssurfer is right that a watchman cyclops and Lello combo works very well on a 63. I don't have a lot of pics but here is the best I could find of the combination: And with a little bit of luck I should be able to show you the comparison of that combo and a gen crystal in a week or so. And no I did not buy the gen.
LegendofSpeed
Mine was through an inside source at Richemont... one time deal unfortunately.... got the invoice and everything.... total was $200.... including fedex overnight.... sssurfer
Here is a single AR coated watchmen cyclops on a cheap Asian 21J 104. Even with that crappy, thin DW font, readability gains a lot from single AR. (With apologies for the fingerprints).
peepshow
That watch is a train wreck, LOS. You should send it to me so that you never have to embarrass yourself again by wearing it.

promotersf
Hey Ssurfer, I know I have 2 cyclops coming from you, is that the best cyclops for the 063? I sold off my extra original Chieftang cyclops except for 1(always hold onto one, you never know I learned), and I also have 2 more of Brian's cyclops coming once the AR issue gets resolved. I have 2 power reserves I'm sending out to The Zigmeister as well, a 27 and 28 so trying to make the best choices since they're all available to me. sssurfer
Hi Promotersf, I am currently working exactly on your two cyclopses, they should be ready soon. The 027 and 028 have the 2892-A2 movement, that has a small additional lens embedded on the 027/028 date window. The 063 has the 2893 movement, that does NOT have that lens. My cylops is specifically designed to allow the user to use it on the 2892-A2 movement (PAM 027/028) without removing that additional lens. It would result underpowered on a 2893 movement (PAM 029/063). On the other hand, chieftang and watchmen cyclops are a good fit to the 2893, but they would result overpowered (so giving cushion distortion) on a 2892-A2 -- unless you remove the additional lens. In a few words: use my cyclops on the 027 and 028, use a chieftang cyclops on the 063.
