How to raise hands

Hi guys, a call to those who are horologically enclined:

I have seen the raising of hands on several vintage Pam projects, and need to do the same with the hands on a Accutron cal 214 "GMT" movement (as featured on the 1960

You have to replace all the parts with longer ones, in other words a longer hour wheel, a longer cannon pinion, and a longer GMT gear.

2mm is a big jump. I don't think you will be able to find the parts to do this, without getting them custom made and that will cost you some big $$$.

A quick glance at the 214 parts list shows the CP is available in 3 heights. 2.30mm, 2.44 mm, 2.69mm. It's not looking good I'm afraid.

Indeed. So if I got a 2.69 CP, would that mean that the minutes hand will be "vertically positioned" 2.69 mm over the movement?

2.69 is the total length of the CP

It would depend on how deep the CP sits in the movement, and how tall the dial seat it.

For example. On the ETA 2836-2, if your CP is 2.70, the height over the dial seat is 1.40. (Dial seat is basically the back of the dial, or where the dial rests on the movement.)

So, if you subtract the thickness of the dial, typically 0.40, then the hand would sit 1.00 over the dial.

I have to say you have my utmost respect for trying this. I have no idea why Accutron doesn't capitalize on making a larger watch, and hence, a larger watch case, for this new generation. Making a large Astronaut watch is a great idea. Best of luck. Truly.
