  1. No not at all. The v3 has a huge bug eyed pearl and ultra-fat hour markers AND no beveled date window.

This DSSD has a correct date window, a reasonable pearl from what I can see in the blurred pics and slim, sweet hour markers.

I'd say this watch is the Eurotimez v5.

I agree...plus the correct 10 on the insert would suggest a later version unless modded but this doesn't seem to be a home mod...

Looks pretty nice! They are getting closer... :whistling:

  2. For some reason every rep i've owned that was a GMT doesn't work the right way...or I just don't know what I am doing with setting these watches! :bangin:

I now own a GMT Master from Josh. It's the asian movt and I keep trying to set the watch to USA EST and set the GMT hand to London time (5 hours ahead). I set it and come back a day later...the GMT hand is not 5 hours ahead...i've yet to get it right.

Here is the model I have.

Does the GMT function work on this watch or is it for show? Or do I have a messed up watch?

BTW - I have a story I will be sharing about my experience in the Gen world with the Deep Sea...it's quite an unreal story but I won't be able to share for another week. As soon as I can...it's going to be interesting to say the least.

    Thanks guys!

  3. I remember the words of the infamous Eddie Lee...

    "Rep is rep"

Meaning, you buy a rep and you take the risk of failure. I personally would never buy that many reps and repeatedly have these issues. I own a few reps, one Gen and that's it.

Reps will fail...it's just a matter of time. They are made in the worst conditions by people who don't give a crap...it's a risk of who built it for you and if they even cared if it works right.

  4. Well - received pics and I have a query over the crystal height with respect to the bezel.

The gen looks to be flush level.

Reps I'm not so sure about.

This is what I've been sent as my watch

Based on these it looks like the crystal is a little higher than the bezel edge.

Is this normal and acceptable for this rep in the 316F V5 version?

It's not sent yet - will be probably tomorrow....so any help greatly appreciated.

The correct 10 marked bezel insert will come seperate.

    Hi there,

Now that I own a Gen DSSD I can tell you the crystal is pretty flush to the insert. There is only a slight raise above the insert where you see the edge of the crystal. That picture of the rep is way too high compared to the gen. If you are doing the bezel insert mod with the correct 10...that will sit higher and most likely be closer to gen than how it looks now.

  5. Congrats my friend!!! BUT: Dont give away your gen SD....it wil be your big mistake in the years to come!! It will be a litle bit dificult to find it again! Btw i have a gen SD also and i like it better! Enjoy your new "beast"

Hi there, thanks. I prefer the Deep Sea over the SD but it's all taste.

I just sold the SD and got a really good price for it. I'm happy but a bit sad I sold it. Oh well...I'll find another one day if I decide I want one.

For now...It's Deep Sea for me! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  6. Congrats man! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Once again it got proven: Reps are a gateway drug to gens and this kind of forum can actually be beneficial for the luxury watch brands.

PS: Do you still have the rep? Nothing beats a side-by-side comparison (wink wink).

Thank you and you are 100% right. The Rep did in fact lead to me buying the real one.

Unfortunately I sold the Rep a few weeks ago to a forum member. No side by sides unfortunately for me.

I mentioned some of the key differences but others exist too...of course the rehaut engraving is off and the serial number font is different than the gen...also the steel is good on the rep but just doesn't come close to the quality of the gen. The finish on the gen is so smooth and has distinct lines on it from the polishing...the rep just doesn't come close on the fit and finish of the steel. It's good for $350...but not in the same league. Sorry to say..and I am not knocking anyone's rep...it's a great rep.

Another difference is the engraved rolex on the clasp when opened...on the gen it has this brushed rough feeling to it...the rep wasn't like that at all.

The rep also doesn't have the shock absorber type feel to the bezel when you push down on it...the gen feels like a shock absorber (spring like feel) is under the bezel and helps it take a little impact if that happens...

Plus the "original gas escape valve" engraving is not correct on the rep.

It's really the finer details that are missing on the rep. Don't get me wrong...on the wrist most won't know a difference but for a guy like me...it makes a world of difference.

I love this watch! It's not leaving my wrist for a while...my rep GMT IIC, Breitling Skyland and Breitling EVO will have to sit for a while...I am enjoying this watch too much to take it off now!

  7. You may have seen some of my other posts with my DSSD rep that I modded with the correct 10 insert. Even after the mod I just couldnt live with the slight imperfections.

So, since I own a Gen Sea Dweller I decided I was going to sell it and pay the difference and that is exactly what I did!

Here is my brand spanking new V DSSD.

I took off the stickers and got it sized this afternoon as soon as it arrived at my house.

The AD also sent me some Rolex goodies last week because...well because he's really cool.

I received a Rolex hat, Rolex pocket knife and Rolex gloves. How cool is that?

Here's the watch!!!! I love this beast! I still own my Sea Dweller but that is being sold next week. The DSSD rep is very close but some really big differences made me want the gen so badly...the maxi dial is just wrong on the rep...the pearl is just not right no matter which version is received and of course the bezel insert mod...I just didn't like how it looked no matter how good it looked...I could always see the glue or something that nobody else would ever notice but I am a nut! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  8. UPDATE

I brought my DSSD to my watch guy this morning. We removed the bezel and put the bezel with the insert into a ultrasound machine...it softened the gorilla glue and I was able to salvage it.

He is working on the watch now and is sanding the insert to make it perfect...

I'll have it later today and I can't wait.

Photos and an updated thread coming soon...

  9. I believe they are celebrating the Chinese New Years and that goes on for like two weeks (wow!). I have two orders pending since a week ago and they have not even shipped yet. I believe that they will be sent out after the workers return after the New Years Celebration on the 23 of February.

yep you are right about CNY. I ordered the insert on feb 6th and it was sent registered mail which takes a couple of weeks...I'll probably have it in March.

  10. just as an fyi WnR.. do not attempt to use any acetone or thinner to loosen the epoxy "if" you decide to remove it.. the epoxy will seep down into the bezel and freeze the clicks.. so if you decide to do the insert over you may have to sacrifice the insert when removing it..

the peace of mind in knowing you can correct is gtg for now me thinks.. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

thanks Lani...I won't use any thinner or remover. But, do you think I'll be able to get the insert off of the metal bezel? That glue is strong! I wonder if I'll have to really scrape it off or if it will pop away from the metal

Plus Joshua is taking forever getting my the insert...I still need to send you one...I'm ordering another from Joshua tomorrow...

I'll post pictures tomorrow which are clearer...my wife might be right and I am a nutcase...

Others here have looked at my pictures and say the watch looks great...

How do you think it looks Lani based on the pics on page 1?

    Would you re-do it?

  11. there is no damage to the insert if you remove the pearl first.. the 3M tape does not have epoxy like properties... you could heat it with a hair dryer, but I haven't found the need to.. fyi

I actually did snap the old insert right at the hole where the pearl was...I wasn't careful removing it because I knew it was going in the trash but it wasn't just an easy pull on mine...I had to use some force.

Thanks all for the comments on my watch...it's amazing how one can fixate on something when it isn't 100% perfect....I think most people would say it looks great it's just that I know the edge on one side has a bigger gap that the other side of the bezel....it's driving me crazy even if it is less than a mm.

My only regret is not using the elmers glue insead of going with gorilla glue...I think I will have problems removing the insert if I want to do the job again. It will probably snap off and I'll need to do some scraping to get it off...

I'm going to post new pictures using a better camera to see if you guys think I should re-do it or if I'm crazy. :)

  12. Order another insert to settle you mind.. in the mean time you have a corrected 10 insert and the world is all good..

that's why I recommend the rubber cement.. it doesn't set quickly and gives you a lot of time to adjust and play with the insert.. and if you need to it can be removed easily and done again.. plus the epoxy could possibly run down into the bezel and freeze the clicks..you got lucky this time it didn't.. instead of ordering another "modded watch" the insert is the way to go..

Patience is the "KEY".. sand a little.. "walk away" from it ..and come back to it again in your spare time.. until it's all good.. I still have more sanding to do on mine.. but I leave it until I'm in the "mood".. but if you try and get it done all at once it gets frustrating.. cause that insert does not sand down as easily as you think, or would like it too... and using the rubber cement gives you the opportunity to always come back to it without it being somewhat permanent on the bezel..

And really it's only a fraction of a mm .. but Patience........

the more you look at it the worse it gets.. so just know that it's a "temporary" insert.. good for now..

awesome advice....lani. Since I used gorilla glue I hope I can pop the insert out to put in a new one...might be a bit of work now to clean it up.... I wil pop this one out when I get another insert and your advice on glue and sanding is perfect....patience and use rubber cement to be able to re-do it if needed. I am ordering another insert tonight.

For now, it looks good. Until I get the new one...life is good....

  13. Look through this thread for all the instructions to mod the insert>Corrected DSSD insert..

fyi, the best way I have found to remove the insert is by taking off the pearl first (I used my thumbnail) and then sticking a toothpick into the hole and lifting the insert off the bezel, it is held down by 3m tape... this is how I explained to WnR to remove his insert.. seems to work well enough..

I would not however use any strong epoxy to attach the correct insert, you have practically have no window of opportunity to adjust the insert, and unless you are "perfect" in you first application.. fogetaboutit.. it will not be exactly centered...

I use "Elmer's rubber cement" strong enough to hold the insert in place and can be removed easily.. I never had a problem with the insert on any of my bezels falling out with this glue.the insert is not totally flush with the bezel so you will need to adjust it so it is even.. epoxy does not give you this time, and if you ever want to remove the insert using epoxy.. good luck

to attach the pearl .. punch the corrected insert pearl out from the back of the insert.. I just used a thick pin.. then lay the ultimate insert upside down on a felt towel.. and place your insert on top of the pear... son't attempt to place it on from the top.. it could bounce out.. and then .. good luck in trying to find it... for the pearl.. this is when you use epoxy from the back of the insert.. just to bond the edges of the pearl with the back of the insert.. do not apply glue on the pearl before you stick it on.. you will leave signs of the glue on the insert..

    AC/Lani

thanks Lani. I did exactly as you said about removing the pearl first and then I used a blunt metal poker to pop the other insert out. I glued the pearl exactly as you said as well and it worked awesome.

The glue is where I deviated and in a way I regret it because the insert is not 100% even on all sides of the bezel itself...but I think it's a bit minor...

I removed all the excess glue and you can't tell by looking at the watch...

My biggest issue with it was sanding it down enough so the bezel is a little higher than the insert....I didn't sand it enough and the insert and metal bezel are even...

Looking at my pictures...do you guys think I screwed it or am I being overly picky and it's fine?

I'm now thinking of just buying another one with the correct insert mod already done...

I'm clearly sick...:). Help my OCD here guys...am I being too picky and the watch looks good to you?
