  1. They were even seizing gens where the owner could not prove it was originally bought by them in the USA. No seizures lately because all the border agents have one.
  2. It's remarkable just how many people can't seem to see the lines in a parking lot from the driver's seat and so need to key off their position relative to other vehicles or they simply can't park. Park away from other cars all you want, there will always be someone who is nervous about fitting into a single spot and will search out your car off by itself for parking reference. I remember years ago I saw an absolutely flawlessly restored E-Type Jag in a mall parking lot. It was so far away from any other cars off by itself way away from the mall entrance you felt it just had to be safe to leave it there. When I came back out there was a minivan parked on either side of it, still a long way away from any other car. The other night it was incredibly windy here. My wife had someone pull up beside her in a parking lot and fling open his door without holding it. Of course the wind took it. There is now a nice dent in the drivers door of our 6 month old Mercedes coupe. The average person is genuinely stupid.
  3. I would be disappointed too, but I would wear it anyway. The scratch is not visible. I would then spend some time searching for a replacement case back. It will take some time, but think of the satisfaction when you finally find one and install it.
  4. I used to be into reps quite heavily. I liked the modding process and the quest for the super rep. However, as my age has crept up (over 50 now) and my salary and standard of living has crept up, I haven't had a rep on my wrist in quite some time now. I'm not sure what it is. I've always looked many, many years younger than I am, so perhaps it's a desire to live up to what I feel others should perceive me as. I don't know. All I know is that the average person never notices a watch, and sure can't tell one brand from another, and probably would never know a rep if it was pointed out to them. Others just assume everything is fake. My wife has a closet full of Louis Vuitton purses and has been careful to buy ones she knows have not been repped, lest people assume hers are fake (she is also Chinese, and many young Chinese girls carry fake ones here). Same with my watches - my gens are all models that I don't think have been repped, at least not well. Odd to peek into my own thoughts on the subject. I still like to spend time here just to see old acquaintances and see where things stand.
  5. Welcome, from snowy Toronto, where the police shoot the coyotes that roam the streets (literally).
  6. I have an older gen SMP Chrono that I bought several years ago in person from a member here (on the old board iirc back in '06 I think it was). I love it on the blue rubber strap with the deployant clasp. It is not overly bulky at all. I think it has a nice presence on the wrist.
  7. With routine x-raying of all parcels at multiple locations during transit, this is happening more and more, all in the name of "security". It's becoming more and more difficult to securely and reliably ship high value items or perceived high value items. Too many potential thieves know what's in a given package. Most carriers limit their liability regardless of how much insurance you purchase as well.
  8. Electricity generating end of the business. There's precious little money or jobs in any other aspect of the field. I will be retiring in a few years if all goes well. It's been an OK career.
  9. I put a couple of gen Tropic 21s on my DWs. Indeed you need to shave the bezel, but I found it easier to shave then polish the outer edge of the plastic crystal instead. If the J&K crystal is a direct replacement for the Rolex one, something will need to be shaved. I also tried the rounded generic replacement that I can get from my parts supplier and it too needs shaving, indicating that the DW bezel is slightly undersized, probably because of the crystals he could get when originally fabricating his product. Don't force it, as you will crack the insert on a DW 6263 bezel.
  10. He's taken care of a few of my vintage gens. I always compare watches with my dentist when I go in 3x per year. He has someone local that he trusts. I may have to seek him out, but apparently he is very old and headed for retirement too. Where are all the young people who need careers?
  11. Funny how popular Creed's offerings are. I personally find them far too strong and not very pleasant. My personal aftershave is D.R. Harris Marlborough. Very masculine and not overpowering at all.
  12. The rep leather straps in my experience are pretty average in quality and will never be real gator. Best just buy an aftermarket one.
  13. Indeed it is gen. I'm not aware of any rep of this model.
  14. This one again today - getting slightly better at iPod photos. Perhaps I should just dig my camera out instead.
