  1. Just an FYI, I recently bead blasted a gen Porsche Design PVD chronograph. The PVD was in poor shape and my intent was to blast it all off as it looked like it was painted, it in fact was not painted, just 25 year old PVD showing the wear of photojournalist wearing it to hell and back. Have a look.

Anyway, while blasting this case, I did notice that part way through the process I had blasted the remaining PVD into a new soft bead finished PVD that was very similar in look and feel to a davidsen PVD case. I didn't take any pics unfortunately as my goal was a pure bead blasted finish and I was part way through the work. The finished bead blasting was quite pleasing and the watch came out excellent.

I do believe that with a fine media that isn't at full velocity, ie very close to the gun, a blasting of the PVD surface could be made to happen. The key however is how much PVD you have depthwise to start with.....

  2. So its not just me that has had issues installing these. I spent 8 hours on one watch trying to get it to click on the date change instead of acting all gummed up on 2/3s of the changes....

  3. swiss > asian

Any day of the week. Even serviced, one of the biggest things for me is parts availabilty. If something goes on an eta I can order the part and fix it quick. On an asian you order a new movement I suppose, but then you'd need to service that new one. This is why most smiths will work on an asian once, then never again. If for some reason something does happen, they have no way of sourcing the right replacement part. The fact that there are so many variants of the asian doesn't help things at all either.

And I'm someone with a stockpile of asian parts to have around just in case I need to fix one. But most of my keepers have etas as i know it can be repaired.

  4. Anyone have a line on gen bezels for under $224? I want to get the bezel, but at that price it bumps the watch over what I consider practical in a rep vs gen ratio. Or if anyone has pulled a bezel out of a 42mm and wants to sell just the bezel, please contact me.
