  1. Not to mention that chick you picked up during the karaoke. She was a smitten kitten alright as the photo clearly shows. Pity she was packed like a racehorse down below. My how we laughed at you the next morning. What was it you said again? "Oh well, what's sauce for the goose...."
  2. Aye, went down like a bucket of cold sick did the 1655. Couldn't give them away at the time. p.s. soutchcoast - Happy 500th
  3. I can beat that.... Take a look at this internal sales brochure offering a 'clearance' on old Heuers - together with trade prices. Anyone care to guess the year you could pick up an original c.11 Monaco blue-dial on rice-bead bracelet for $93.50? Or the tricompax c.12 for under $64?
  4. Yeah I saw it. Same as I did back in 2004 (yes it really HAS been that long) when it was first announced complete with prototype pics. Probably the most problematic concept-to-production project ever - it was only very recently that they confirmed production was going ahead after they finally found a supplier to make those little toothed belts to spec, which drive the linear oscillating weights seen on the see-through caseback. Problem is the thing will cost in excess of 10,000 euros in the first place, but this one being the first available in the wild, will fetch at least 5 times that I'm sure, possibly more if the charity event sparks a bidding war. What has got me excited about this photo though, is that the movement on display looks subtly but significantly different in both design and components than the partially bridge-hidden concept pics. Jaw-dropping and VERY exciting.
  5. Holy [censored]! WATCH PORN ALERT!!!! I'd heard about the DMD event in Monaco from a colleague but had no idea there were such unique beauties (and gorgeous uglies ) on offer. Call me conservative (aka 'understated elegant taste') but I'd whip out a few kidneys (not mine obviously) for the chance of owning...oh let me see now... OK, the V4 Monaco (but of course), that retro pandalicious Zenith and (although I'd never wear it, just stare at it) that albino Ploprof
  6. Ah I knew you'd get the reference you old flower-pressing, ladies underwear-wearing tree-climber you
  7. Exactly. The 1655 will always be a problem for this type of project as it requires a very high investment in movt. p.s. Look forward to your "shitload" of pics next week
  8. What chemicals are you talking about? Because the only bracelet treatment I recall being discussed here is the oxiclean method. Except this only works on Ti bracelets to make it darker (tried it successfully myself), but does absolutely nothing to darken SS.
  9. That doesn't surprise me in the least and just backs up what I said above re. me too product and bandwagon jumping. Time will tell, but if DW thought his product superior to current offerings, why the price match/undercut?
  10. Hmmm, few things spring to mind... 1. I don't quite see how "definitely not 1:1" is compatible with fitting genuine parts, the two kind of go together usually on vintage cases. Even Yuki says he "can't guarantee gen parts will fit exactly". 2. Why a 1655 but not 1675 as well? 3. Redials are nice but if not better than what is already available, what's the point? I'm thinking of the 1655 especially, nothing half-decent about. 4. If supplying redials to fit c/15xx, then is that the same spec for the packaged hands as well? If so, that basically limits buyers to those who will spring for a c.1570 (expensive) or for the 1655 a c.1575 (even more expensive). 5. Overall a nice to know but hardly revolutionary, even the price is not far off Yuki et al. Just sounds like DW jumping on the bandwagon and supplying 'me too' products instead of raising the bar as he did with the Daytonas.
  11. Agree, never understood the clamour for open source freebie 'office' software. MS Office is not perfect but ironically works better than the PC variant. This is business software more often than not, so you or your company needs to pay. If you want an alternative, I can heartily recommend Apple's own (and IMO superior to MS Office) iWork package - Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. To be honest, I only have significant experience with Keynote mostly, but if the others match up to their competitors Word and Excel, then you'll have no complaints. Actually Pug, tsk tsk...you actually are using an Airport Extreme (base station) - that's the name of the current hardware (Express is outmoded now), whereas "Airport" is just the brand name that Apple developed for their wireless technology
  12. New movt, so yes alongside the promised Double Eagle, the first Speedy off the line will probably be the new Date with sapphire. But I find it hard to believe they'll not pull an acrylic Moonie using the same movt just sans DW and possibly autowind mechs. It's definitely under serious consideration last I heard, the only problem being the movt is a very restricted supply and thus expensive at the moment. Lots of chippies eh? Just go easy on those infamous deep-fried Mars bars
  13. Definitely genuine, never mind the dial text, several features on the backside confirm it. Most likely an RSC replacement, or even a 'second'/reject (on account of the poor QC on the 12 o'clock index).
  14. Ah the old white dial and ridiculous red hockey puck 'Alaska'. Gens aren't holding onto their value and there's plenty to be had. No interest from the rep makers I'm sure, remember a conversation with Josh a good while back, just too weird/unpopular a model. Love the Skylab 3/6 subdial hands though.
  15. Seems your PM box is full. Just asked our mutual friend Lani for your email address, he'll likewise pass on mine if you ask. Have some info for you that I don't particularly want to post openly.
  16. Ha ha, whatever you say 'comrade'. Pretty much accepted that the original plans were 'stolen' from BAC in the mid-60s, about the time it was very fashionable for us Brits to be passing information on to the Soviets, either intentionally or not Back OT, think we have a consensus now on building case sets - midcase, bezel and caseback. Could start with one, and if successful then roll the process out for a couple of other vintage models. There's enough info within these walls to provide exact specifics after all
  17. Never nice to hear of stuff like this, especially something so tricky to deal with and chronic (sounds similar to Cushing's, Addisons, etc. which can be very nasty). Goes to show the old adage is true....money can buy you everything but your health. To an extent of course, because there's always other avenues open if you can fund it, which by the sounds of it you can. That's what I'd be doing in your shoes. Never mind a second opinion, you ought to be looking at getting 4 or 5. And be prepared to travel, the big boys in this field are mostly based on the East Coast. Best of luck.
  18. Very nice pickup even if it's not quite my own taste. Now sing after me... "We all live in a ______ submarine, a ______ submarine..."
  19. Sellita movements are I'm told the Toyotas of watch movements. Nothing fancy, nothing revolutionary, just inexpensive, reliable, me-too products that do what they say on the tin. Still, it seems they are being restrictive about supply as well, no listing on the Cousins, Borels (and that other nut) of this world. Which means we're stuck with Chinese made ETA clones for the time being.
  20. "Small part of the collection" indeed. C'mon Lani, we want to see the motherlode Hold on, you keep a box or two in your CAR?!!! p.s. I spy with my little eye, a nice little MBW 6541 hiding in the corner sans bracelet....
  21. Fair enough mate, I got the sense a little hijacking was going on from the Sub nuts. But anyway at some point you have to move beyond the concept The 'concept' is clearly a flyer, you seem to have found both the personnel and have the wherewithal to pull this off. But as per my little dig at Gran, it's the specifics and finer points that matter the most, and that's where the excrement tends to hit the fan unfortunately. Don't get me wrong, as Dems said we have you which is something, and I'm happy to help with any info if I can when you come down to model choice. But you must forgive me if I also reserve the right to retain a healthy dose of scepticism about projects like this in general.
  22. Biggest giveaway on the 116710 is the AR coating on the gen cyclops. Very noticeable side by side, surprised you missed it. Unfixable at present. After that is the greyish colour of the insert numerals. Fixable. And down to nitpicking level, the gen trip crown is slightly thinner and taller. Fixable. Other than that, there's practically nothing to differentiate, a fantastic rep I agree which is why I'd never part with my CHS version.
