  1. It's not jargon, just relates to certain products/models. Stick around, read up, ask questions and use the search button and all will become clear very quickly. I only asked the question as I got the sense you were just looking for a Sub before moving on. Glad to see I'm wrong (I hope?). p.s. is that Gisele exiting the car?
  2. You're talking about the second gen rep with 28.8vph 7750 movt, right? Yes, they did have a "very light" AR-type coating. I only say that because you can see a very faint pinky/purple tint around the crystal perimeter when it catches the light. As for it bestowing any AR properties at all, well that's a big fat NO. The gen has excellent AR and rightly so as it is a busy dial, which is why my 187 crystal is currently being given a proper double AR-coat
  3. Still that glaringly obvious off-centre pearl though, otherwise a gorgeous rep.
  4. Talent and verve? Oh dear. You see, I'm more a fan of the game itself, and like to see it played well. That means a South African victory. I won't actually cheer England losing but I will applaud great play and if that comes (as it will) from the Boks, then so be it. Oh believe me, the Irish do self-serving melancholy better than anyone The English mentality is I agree to whinge and moan, but rarely does that come packaged with the word 'win'. In fact, it's a curious mix....England rugby and football teams seem to think they have some almost-colonial god-given right to win (invented the sports etc.), which is arrogance....arrogance breeds overconfidence....overconfidence breeds poor performance....and poor performance breeds failure. I've never said it's wrong to be patriotic, I just said it's wrong when it's misplaced and disrespects other nationalities. I have friends who are true and knowledgeable club rugby fans ('in the water' where I now live) and they hold similar views to me on this. I suppose I just have a problem with jingoistic glory-seekers (jingoistic means extreme/aggressive so the cap fits), you know those Daily Mail or Sun-reading types who come out of the woodwork with their face paint and "Jonny Wilkinson is God' t-shirts, when all's going well but are nowhere to be seen cheering "our boys" on when they were being written off or being humiliated 36-0. Fair weather fans, glory hunters, 75% of Chelsea fans, Tony Blair etc. (I wonder if Gordon will make some diplomatic comment?)....they just make me nauseous. Spoken like your typical Home counties ex-pat. Treasured? Betrayed? Oh come on. You'll have me in tears soon Anyway, don't assume you have some sort of monopoly over being an ex-pat, I have worked/lived in the US, HK and Europe for periods and I never felt any such compulsion to wallow in faked misery about 'life in the old country' (beyond kicking the odd annoying slobbering daschund ) Honestly, if you really feel that way, then why not just come back? I guarantee you your 'grass is greener' thoughts would last 6 months at most.
  5. You see, this is the type of thing that grates, it's not the honest patriotism, but the dishonest misplaced slant on events... Emmzy, at least you have the best rugby avatar but I'll have to disagree on a couple of points... Yes England may still (for another few days at least) be World Champions, but since winning in Australia fours years ago, they've been quite possibly the worst World Champions ever, an embarrassment even in the way they've disrespected that title. I don't know why Woodward left so soon, but from the moment that last-gasp Wilkinson drop-goal went over (and yes, I admit I leapt up cheering ) it's almost as if they said "that's it boys we've done it, let's just sit back and live off the glory" with the result that as a team they've stagnated over the last four years. "Respect where it's due"??? I think the boot's on the other foot. Much as I have a lot of time for Mike Catt, that most English of South Africans, he had no business being in the last England World Cup squad never mind this one. A great player and I guess he deserves his place, but that fact alone shows the dearth of talent available and coming through. Every other nation has moved on, they evolve, a constant effort to strive and improve themselves. Look at Argentina and Fiji. The All Blacks for all their choking, every tournament always take the game up a level, setting the bar for other teams to look at. It's not as if England don't have the talent, the sight of Robinson dancing through the middle is a joy to watch, and not since Guscott have we had a player with such elegance and pace, but he's an anomaly in this current team and is retiring anyway. Let's be honest, England have scraped to the Final again by a combination of luck, the draw opening up for them, and a failure of their opponents to play anything like their normal game. We should be grateful for that.
  6. It's ok Ken, you CAN say it....."one dimensional"
  7. Oscar Wilde in a rugby thread? Sorry don't get the analogy Winning ugly just doesn't wash. Brazil or Italy? Since you mention it, suggest you watch the '82 match between those two and the Final that year, a perfect example of how success and beauty can and should go hand in hand. And why not go back to '70? THAT'S what we remember, never mind the dusty old history books, the magic whether ultimately successful or not, is what inspires...not some dull drawn out stalemate settled by a hopeful kick.
  8. Been reading the Daily Mail sports pages again have we? Honestly, I have nothing against patriotism but when it's misplaced and patronising to other countries' achievements, I just have to stick two fingers down the back of my throat and distance myself from the jingoistic and embarrassing boasts spouted by my fellow countrymen/women, ones usually I've noted that know little to nothing about the sport in question South Africa deserve to win this tournament. End of.
  9. Is this 'friend' you by any chance? It's ok to say so you know But just curious since you've been pointed in the right direction, do you plan on sticking around? Do you have any other interests beyond this model? I'd be very interested to know....
  10. Another great example of why we need that VINTAGE ROOM
  11. My half-Irish side hung its head in shame as I watched BOD (schooled at my alma mater) and the rest of the boys get "their pants pulled down and spanked" (quote from Zinzan Brooke) But for some reason, my half-English side just can't get enthused about the prospect of a deathly dull English side winning the World Cup. With the football side, it's obvious, I hate so many 'Ingerrlund' players for partisan club reasons, but I have no such allegiance when it comes to egg-chasing. So unpatriotic as it sounds, I hope England are soundly beaten, humiliated even. Why? The sight of a lumbering, unimaginative and workmanlike England once again lifting the World Cup is frankly too much to stomach. It would be a bloody travesty. And that's not even considering the 36-0 humiliation a few weeks back. Call me an aesthete, but I just like to see sporting excellence, which in this case means running rugby, a backs' game, hell even a try now and again would be nice. The All Blacks once again choked (is that what they're acting when they stick their tongues out? ) and the arrogant Wallabies capitulated yet again (oh the shame, eh Ken, Alan, etc. ). However, there's just something about the 'Boks, that combination of old-school tough Boer stock (Os du Rant or is that Ox du Rant?) and the graceful modern athlete (Montgomery and Habana, player of the tournament) that gives them a clear edge above all other nations - they DESERVE to be World Champions. More in fact than they did when fate, Mandela and a dodgy chef decided to present them with the '95 title. After such a great tournament this time, from Caveman Chabal to the almost-indomitable Pumas, any other result than a South African win would be a disaster for the international game.
  12. As Andreww said. There is absolutely NO difference in rehaut betwen gen 45mm PO and the UPO. None. Nada. Zip. Zilch. What is it like 'nitpick the UPO week' here? This thread was discussing swapping out bezels and HeVs for god's sake
  13. Nico, 16800 when launched used the new 16610 case (lugholes) with new sapphire crystal and the new c.3035 - was called 'transitional' because they didn't update some of the minor 'cosmetic' features (e.g. dial) initially and when they did (gloss dial with white gold indices surrounds) they also changed the movt to the c.3135, and it became the 16610 Sub we all know. TW Best are the modern Rolex reps that came out of Taiwan and were at the time (about 3 years ago before they dried up in production) considered the best available. Case, rehaut and lugholes made them stand out as superior to the Chinese reps of the time. Rivet bracelet is all wrong by about 20 years! Just find a rep fliplock bracelet with solid midlinks and hollow endlinks. As for dial, I believe your best bet on a budget would be a decent redial for about $150 or so.
  14. You think so? OK then, taking North German social mores out of the equation, which precise bit of the pushy Bridget Jones, crazed grinning, overly familiar watch-tapping behaviour do you think turned him off the thought of entering into further intercourse with you??? Let me know if you want a clue
  15. Firstly, best of luck, hope it goes well today Pug. However, if it doesn't, next time listen to Mrs Pug!!!! A gold Rolex DD worn to an interview is NOT a good choice Loud, brash, tacky even, it just says all the wrong things about you if it's spied. Raises questions, doubts possibly. Even in IT circles. I understand a PAM is not a dress watch per se, but it would be a more appropriate choice. Smart but understated and preferably unrecognisable is the way forward. Same with attire. If you dress smarter and conspicuously more expensively than your prospective boss, it's not good. It's a fine line. Friend of mine, works in the City, has suffered from this previously - he now keeps what he calls his "interview suit" on standby. FWIW I'd have gone with one of your IWCs the titanium one with the black DWs - fits the bill perfectly.
  16. Amusing tale Couple of things though. One, incidental but not all lefties wear destro's or sport on their right wrists Two, I must admit I'm not the best when it comes to receiving compliments....about anything. My reserved Anglo/Celtic ways probably. However, if it's female and attractive, then my reliably-effective self-depreciating charm kicks in, easy as drawing breath, and I'll steer the conversation elsewhere. Three, Norwegian is not a Teutonic accent. Not even close. So, considering all the evidence then......combine his obvious lack of humour and not even the slightest sexual response when it came to a strange Bridget-Jones-type gauche/clumsy Englishwoman trying to steal his reservation, whilst grinning at him like a lunatic and tapping his watch (oh dear) with a long, red, manicured talon, and it is not difficult to reach the obvious conclusion that he was German and/or gay. Elementary my dear Barrett - just keep telling yourself that "German and/or gay", over and over again if necessary, until you start to actually believe it Well zere vee 'ave it in unt nutshell, Doctor Freud
  17. Well I have rare day off today (doesn't mean I'm any less busy sadly ) but right now, I'm going "commando" Likes (in this thread) Wannabe 'model-ho' - actually the first thing I noticed in that pic That Steinhart The Bush voodoo kit (although clearly doesn't work after 8 years in publication ) The "chisel-cut tail" - looks interesting, sounds even more interesting.... Dislikes (in this thread) VB's choice of watch. That assault on the eyes that calls itself a watch. First rule of Watch Club, never wear a 'watch' sported by Elton (W**ker) John. VB's choice of hangout/creative backdrop....outside Burger King. Oh dear. VB's choice of lunch. Would madam like some pizza to go with your PLATE of onions and peperroni??? Euuwww. VB's habit of playing stalker/car-bound paparazzi, taking 'sex pest' photos of girls bending down - honestly, "English eccentrism" won't wash with the local PD or when you're playing other 'strap' games in the 'big house'
  18. IMO, save your money ordering gen parts like bezel, dial etc. Crown/tube only perhaps if yours gets stripped although I hear it's not a straight swap even with a new tap, needs glue to hold tube in place, not ideal. Dial - only visible eye difference is the gen has the newer Omega logo is sans serif/no 'feet', whereas the UPO has the different one with 'feet'. Other very slight but vital difference if you're thinking of buying up gen parts is the size/shape of date window which on the gen is a fraction too high - if you swapout to gen dial you have a problem with the datewheel showing where it shouldn't. Bezel assembly - the UPO's is nigh on perfect - why waste money needlessly? The only things I'd consider doing is get the crystal AR'd (I used k222's EU service - would recommend Yellomen since you're in NL) - perfect coating as good if not better than gen, and a gen rubber strap if you like the rubber. If bracelet, the rep is more than good enough. Here's mine with my two recommended mods...
  19. I think you're wrong, this is not just about the rep world, these asian movts are coming out of reputable manufacturers (e.g. Seagull) Chinese factories have spent the last few years producing their own versions of standard movts. These are getting better and better (Seagull manual chrono as an example) and clever in their design, and I think it's only a matter of time before we see some of the more complex movts (3-6-9 tricompax, 2894-type chrono) in reliable 'asian' form, as we have with the newer 7750. Possibly some other clones also, maybe even a c.3135. For those who doubt, you should just look at the other extreme and how the Chinese have now finally accomplished at a tenth of the price what is considered to be the most technically advanced mechanism in horology...the tourbillon.
  20. Anyway, I already own a PAM with a random/custom serial.....the 187. There was a serial register thread on this gorgeously brutish watch a while back, way before your time VB. I believe it took about 30 or so before we threw up a duplicate. I think mine's G0222/1000 or something like that. But would I really care if everyone with a 187 had that serial? What do you think? 'Course not, I'd prefer a better '1000' colour on the dial much much more. There just HAS to be a limit to the anal-retentiveness - I mean, I've seen guys discussing buying a gen bezel or HeV for their UPOs, I mean, seriously, get a life. A serial number? Ask yourself 'why does it matter?'. Who's going to know/call you out??? However I do feel sorry for the poor buggers that have the exact gen version of infamous rep serials, like H0117/1000 on the MM217 and Fiddy etc. How sorry? About this sorry >>>
  21. No. I'd prefer to pay a 'premium' to correct other type of more obviously 'fake' cosmetic flaws though, such as the drunken pearl on the Breitling Blackbird.
  22. Ach, you're all a big bunch of big girls blouses Stubborn retaining ring? bilateral placement of... Crystal press? inner bit of... cover with handle part of...(*optional*) 'strategically' hit with...
