Even with deliberately blurred pics, the lack of authenticity on that POS is obvious...... Seller's response to my query speaks volumes.... LISTEN!! 1. I have mentioned that my watch is TAG HEUER CALIBRE 36!!! 2. I have mentioned that the camera I have is 2mega pixel and im getting a 10 mega pixel soon!!! 3. I DONT SELL FAKES OR DO FRAUDS PRICES!!! Well that's all settled then

Since I planned on making a hybrid (using correct stack movt only, the rest being built using TW, CN and gen parts), the crappy dial is not an issue. But the mechanical reliability is, and it's what I'm more wary of. As I said, if only it weren't for the crappy GMT hand then I would like you be happy and content with the more reliable bastardized 2836 movt with 1675-type hand stack. It's THAT horrible stubby GMT hand that bothers me visually much more than the stack itself. Maybe I just need to get me a 2893 to fit my 2893 (with excellent 24hr hand) hand set?

Apologies for digging up a 'dead horse' (the only French jibe I promise ) of a thread but having trawled through this, I feel inclined to share a few thoughts... I think the nub of this discussion, which was touched upon by someone else, is that the media are a law unto themselves and have their own agenda. Whether that is having a dig at the US government at a delicate time or stirring up some inhouse European row, they relish any opportunity. It's one reason why I take everything I read or see with a pinch of contextual salt. Re. the events themselves, to be honest, I didn't pick up much going on here in England either, the odd repeated docu-drama (Falling Man one, most popular probably due to the morbid fascination Pug referred to). I was actually caught up in the uncomfortably close environs of both the NY and London terrorist attacks, but must admit I don't feel any strong urge to partake in absorbing conveyor belt media coverage on the anniversaries in question. Is that wrong and heartless of me? I don't think so, as I believe one can remember with having to "commemorate". I understand Americans being (over?)sensitive to any perceived snub of the anniversary of the event, but then quid pro quo, Americans should also be sensitive to the fact that it is nothing particularly new to us Europeans - I grew up with the quite literal threat and fallout of Irish Republicanism all around me. Sure there was often a different 'code' adhered to with respect to innocent lives but still. The French a little further back had their Algerian 'problem'. No less real, no less serious. Just two examples, there's many more. Amongst the shock and condolences post-Sept 11 there was a definite undercurrent of 'welcome to the REAL world', a nod perhaps to America's comfortable isolationism at home, whilst simultaneously pursuing an aggressive and unwelcome self-appointed role as "the world's policeman". Back in the '90s, even the legendary pro golfer-now-commentator Peter Alliss (a more affable man you could not hope to meet) once railed against his colleagues during a PGA/USPGA meeting which got heated, by stating "the problem with you bloody Americans, is that you've never had someone drop bombs on your house. We have, it was called the Blitz. Maybe if you knew what that was like then your attitude to others would be very different". Before you point fingers, I am merely using that offbeat example to illustrate the thoughts out there. Personally I think the only 'problem' with Americans in general is that they feel somehow honour-bound to unquestionably support the stance and policies of whatever muppet they have elected into the White House at the time, whereas Europeans in general feel duty-bound to question and rail against the stance and policies of their government. It's practically a national sport, along with that kicking game with the round ball we also like to play a lot of. As for criticising foreign governments, well that's just too easy. These opposing stances are the origin of much of the misunderstanding and resentment IMO. The "who's firing whose weapons" argument? French Exocets in the Falklands Ry? Frankly we were more concerned about how the Argentinians were still unpacking crates of British weapons that spring of '82 - may as well have had Port Stanley delivery addresses on them Anyway, no point going here, business is business, politics rarely gets involved, and we all now know the scary paradox that the largest arms exporters globally are also the five permanent members of the UN Security Council. The anti-American conspiracy? Doesn't exist IMO. Sure there's no great love lost between the French and Americans but I think the whole thing has got out of hand. So bloody what they didn't support the US in Iraq? Regardless of whether you agree or not, one should never criticise another for having the courage of their convictions. I am not comfortable with this "with us or against us" mentality, seems very wrong. Anyway, I don't hear any bleats about the Spanish - I mean they got involved, were hit at home, and as a result the people (admirably) kicked their government out, and the new lot pulled their troops out before breakfast the next day. Never heard any "boycott tapas bars" protests at the time. Let's face it we're all officially "allies" but that's more akin to work colleagues, people who you work in conjunction with and are civil to as long as your interests don't conflict. They're not "friends". And yes, I'd lump us Brits in with that, allies not friends. The whole "special relationship" thing is a pathetic joke, a term coined in an era in which it only applied as a euphemism for your Ronnie trying to give our Maggie one (not a mental image for the faint-hearted!). I mean, I see no "special relationship" when I queue for 2 hours and am aggressively questioned when trying to get through JFK. Never have I witnessed such an ironic statement as the DHS' "Welcome to the USA" in the immigration clearance hall. Oh but of course I forget I live in a country that is apparently a hotbed of homegrown terrorist recruitment and training. I feel the animosity strongly and I am white Anglo-Irish, god knows what my other countrymen of ethnic origin, experience. I hate to think. And finally getting back to original point of the French media showing this documentary, well I welcome it. Personally I have never heard about those post D-Day events, alleged or not. I agree the timing was a little suspect perhaps, but then I'm not sure history/documentary programming is at the cutting edge of world events/news scheduling (there are precedents, however, Panorama in the UK being one). So maliciously scheduled or not, I think there is an absolute need for these types of programmes, so much is forgotten by history, far far worse atrocities, that people NEED to be constantly force-fed however uncomfortable. If the timing upsets a few others, that's tough. Just because these past atrocities weren't captured by seemingly endless video footage, they are no less impactful (we're talking MILLIONS here those of you who inappropriately quoted numbers dead as a comparison) , nor should they have to pay deference to more recent events. In fact one could argue they should take precedence as without first-hand reports or footage, the risk of being forgotten in history, is infinitely greater. We live at a time now when there are only a handful of Holocaust survivors, yet there are now Neo-Nazi groups in Israel. Also, it is (shockingly) only a mere 14 years since another attempted genocide was witnessed in the Balkans, a conflict the rest of Europe and the US, prefer to ignore, both now and more tragically at the time itself. Go on, I challenge anyone here to name me one significant date relating to either of those events from memory. No? Thought not. There now, all done. To quote Ryyanon, who started this topic with what I respect as his own feelings..... "rant over".

Usually I'm apathetically laid back about the proliferation of dodgy goods on fleabay, but every so often a dodgy scam merchant with a line in disingenuity, no let's face it.... outright lies, comes along and just rubs me up the wrong way. Reported. Would urge anyone reading this to do the same. We know what "they" are like when it comes to turning a blind eye I mean, seriously, asking $1500 straight up for a $50 crappy Monza?

Nice pictorial. Couple of things to clarify though... So I'm clear, you switched the bezels because the CN Sub bezel is better quality (teeth) than this 'noob' assembly? Ok got that. But did you file off the ratchet teeth simply because the 'noob' uses a different click-spring mechanism (the unidirectional Tag Heuer-like ring type unlike the old CN and TW little clicker/sping)? Or because the Sub bezel has unidirectional ratchet teeth, whereas the GMT needs to be bidirectional. i.e. how does your GMT bezel rotate now? Clicks or freely? Also, AFAIK the correct hand stack version is not discontinued just expensive and not on inventory. I have had both modded TW and CN GMTIIs and the only thing that still bothers me (hand stack aside) is that they still can't make a halfway decent 24hr hand for the standard 2836 GMT-adjustable movt. Stem too short, too thick and too dark in colour. Triangle pointer too large and not equilateral.

The nerve of some people!!! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=110169890134 "Please don't ask about the authenticity as I would never ever sell a fake watch!! Yeah right pal

More appropriate to the thread topic perhaps? Guess which one's WE are?

I'm fairly certain, the answer is a big "NO". Made for the Japanese market only. At least you now have a good incentive to learn the language
-
Looks a very decent rep. I know J&A put a lot of investment into this Anonimo project, hope it works out for them.
-
Oh and I believe Silix carries your model - PANS092 - probably where my spare dial is from.
-
What? Removing the metal indices? Yikes, be careful they may not just be glued on but may be attached using 'feet'. My advice would be to leave well alone dial-wise, I mean the lack of AR and sunken crappy font datewheel is giveaway enough as it is BTW, mine was from Eddie, but the Honpo version used the same dial I believe.
-
Nope, sorry. Lume only. One step forward two steps back accuracy-wise I came across a spare dial for my 187 recently - similar to your with metallic surrounded indices. Blue 1000m better than one installed, but still not as good.
-
First thing I noticed, THAT dial and the blue 1000m, nice! None of our dealer versions had that
-
Selita SW200 would be preferable all round IMO

Ape, I missed this thread, as rarely venture OT (this damn watch obsession you know ) but on reflection, it's even better seeing your project evolve over a whole year from planning to build. Huge effort and congrats for having the balls to tackle this. If my own financial plans (technically more "dreams" right now) go well, I'd like a similar (smaller) little place a 'bit' further up the coast from you, saw a great plot or two this summer . Actually quite jealous of being able to draw up and build your own house. I live in a 250-year old heritage-listed building, where making any alterations however minor is a process akin to extracting teeth involving two separate planning authorities. And that's before you even get to grips with all the practical "fun" of dealing with 'vintage' materials . Even changing the colour of our front door requires permission and if you go ahead regardless, the pitchfork and burning torch brigade can force you to change it back. OK then, FWIW, kitchen-wise since you're serious about playing 'Chef'. It's all probably personal taste at this point but I would put in a proper steel hood extractor rather than that flat type. Sure it disturbs the flow of wood panelling above and you lose some cupboard space, but really opens up and enhances the focal point of the oven/hob, which you've gone for anyway since it's corner-placed. I'd also invest in a larger hob, range-style, either 6 or 4 plus wok ring and fish grill. Oh and gas is a must for the hob if utilities allow? I would also invest in a drawer-type dishwasher (Fisher Paykel) and relocate it under the flower vases in your rendering. Apart from being more economical, since your current plan is to have it elevated on the corner of the area, this would be much safer location, height and mechanism for your little girl (and 'big' girl if she's as accident-prone as mine ). As for gadgets, I wouldn't bother really. I've seen those 'American style' (as we English call them euphemistically ) double fridge freezers with LCDs built-in linked up to the internet to order food when you're running low on milk. Although helpful for a self-confessed hermit like yourself I just think there's just something naff and unnecessary about all that crap. Just buy a nice Gaggia or Pavoni to 'bless' your kitchen and you're done Looking forward to those Christmas 'moving in' pics! p.s. disappointed you didn't feel inclined to include a library.....in honour of your dear departed 'Highbury Library'

An update of my understanding following a discussion with Ms King..... 1. In all communications since, she now refers to the movt as a 3135 (not 3035); 2. This 3135 is "real genuine" movement - so that puts paid to these clone rumours - I've never known her to be less than completely honest; 3. Pics show new gen spec case to fit c.3135; 4. ETA 2892 version does NOT use this new case, rather the standard rep case; 5. No more 2892 available - seems she only had a couple/few so I guess some people have ponied up the $500 already; 6. I was quoted a different price to that already posted on the 3135 - not sure why, sure I'm a good customer, but a significant (AD-level) discount??? Overpriced to begin with maybe?
-
If you do your research, and deal with known members TZ should be fine. Otherwise, try auctioneers. Both of the big houses run specialist sales once or twice a year, more across regions (in which you can phone in bids), and almost always authenticity will have been sought and verified. Although, that's not to say everything that passes through is legit, hence the oft-used phrase caveat emptor. Good luck.
-
At $2500, I doubt it's a clone.
-
Thanks BT, I was looking in my archives for that pic Wow only 11g? My wrist must be more sensitive than I thought
-
Firstly I disagree about the gen's weight difference, I found it very noticeable on the wrist and that was compared to an old S-serial SeaDweller with solid midlinks. You may think a relatively small dial and insert would not affect the overall weight, but remember Pt is a VERY heavy metal, about twice the weight of gold. Hmmm, the dial I don't know about, agree it looks less 'sparkly' but then these photos have been tweaked anyway. Dial YM font looks nice dark red (same as "ultimate" YMs) but not bold enough although I notice some latest serial gens have reverted back to a less weighty font. Rehaut? Again, not so sure it isn't different to the various "ultimate" YMs out there. Definitely more info required here, new case etc? CGs are not shown clearly and I'm betting they don't have the correct U-shape. As for crown position, surely the 2892 (thinner than the 2836 if I'm not mistaken) would not be able to use the same crown position as a 3035 and keep the same rehaut? All very interesting but as I said, more open and honest details required.
-
It is possible Oli that she could have access to a small batch say 5 or so. Who knows. I've dealt with her for a while so will ask the question.
-
Of all the Rolex sports models NOT to drop a genuine 3035 into it would be the Yachtie. Why? A franken YM like this, apart from looking no different (same case, dial etc.) is fairly pointless as the weight of the gen (platinum dial and bezel insert) stands out a mile. Much better to put a 3035 into the forthcoming SD

ATTN: PAM 192 Tantalium MODING WANTED!
docblackrock replied to turboGUATE's topic in The Panerai Area
Yes, there's no AR, and I agre this is one that actually needs it, more for legibility than anything. I plan on getting it done soon. Not sure if gen has Ti crown, I think it's SS. My crown was part of a one-off project, although there are gen Pam crowns about these days, you'll need the 0.9 calibre for the manual movt rather than the 1.2 if memory serves me right. CG and caseback, I doubt you'll be able to source, given model is now discontinued. But you could ask a dealer especially if you have a good relationship/are a valued customer. I wouldn't bother about the dial spots/markers being innaccurate, as the dial itself is not too accurate, the colour of the subdial rings particularly stand out - rep black, gen grey. Again, as for oxidising the case, it's a good mod, but be careful to remove the inner bezel also so as not to strip the markings off. Personally I think the effect is only worth it if you have the matching SS/Ti bracelet. The only other mod I would recommend is swapping the strap and putting a 'tantalum' type strap on, MP does a gorgeous one, but there are others out there plus of course the OEM version. The pale 'butter' colour just sets of the look really well IMO. Whatever you do, enjoy and wear it well! -

[KM] 50th Anniversary Speedmaster Moon Watch Review
docblackrock replied to kenmasters's topic in The Omega Area
BTW, the gen Reduced Speedmaster comes in one size only.....35.5mm, midsize. Uses a basic chrono movt (c.3220) hence subdial spacing more akin to the Venus-based reps. There is no rep Reduced as far as I'm aware. Our Venus-based reps, are essentially the same Pro full size 42 mm case (inc.crown) but the Venus relative subdial spacing is visually similar to the gen Reduced. Not explaining that eloquently but sure you get the gist
