  1. hey pete, im in north york! another newb, but i'll be posting a small 'how i got to know rwg' thread soon, once i find time to get my pics hosted. welcome and AVOID UPS.
  2. wow, that must have been a pretty easy lume job......... but prob used ALOT of lume............. maybe that spray paint stuff..
  3. searched for a while on here and repgeek to find this gem of a thread. if it can be stickied, i think it would be helpful to other newbs like myself!
  4. OP forgot AR double/single coatings!
  5. wow, cool replies. i just got into these more modern mechanical-based automatics (and learning about them) and i've never been a tree-hugger but its kinda cool to learn that I can have a watch that is relatively accurate and that is completely powered by motion.. now if it could glow as if it was on batteries, than i'd think thats pretty amazing.
  6. thanks for the replies... i know The Zigmeister is notorious for luming in toronto.. as i am also in toronto, but before i spam him with a newb question and waste his precious time (no pun intended bah ha ha) I'd just wanted to know what the usual price range for a service like this is (on our side of the pond) that and even if these things light up like crazy, does the lume last like 3+ hours in the dark?
  7. I really like the idea of a deployant on the leather strap, esp on these panerai reps. Infact, its a feature i like most about the watch, just like the detail of a crownguard, and that the deployant follows the same shape of the crownguard, creating a watch that is very consistent in its design elements. esp when both match, be it polished and polished or brushed with a brushed deployant! Taking a look at the awesome straps ppl have on their reps, i've noticed many are of the buckle style? is the deployant a work of fiction in the rep world? was it ever used on gen PAMs with leather straps?
  8. I've been in envy of many of the pics ppl have taken of their dials enhanced with tritec.. Its super popular here, but other than the obvious brighter effect, why is it so popular? I took a quick search and read the faq's but didn't see much other than rep & movt information.. so maybe this can help the other noobs here as well! How long does the 'bright' lume-effect last once the lights are out? what does it look like after an hour or 2 in the dark? Is it expensive to apply? Can it be a DIY? How much do the resident-lumer's charge for a typical application? How long does the lume last once applied? I just read how Panerai's Radiomir's were once lumed with radioactive materials for underwater purposes, but didn't mention how long the lume lasted, etc etc. thanks in advance!
  9. i find that if u gotta go for a walk for say an accumulated time of 30 mins - 1 hr daily, the swing of ur arm movement should provide enough power for the watch to charge itself.
  10. totally agree, sssufer! i find the movt winds so effeciently its never reading below 40 unless left alone for at least 3 hours.
  11. weird that on seagulls site, the power reserve hand for the 2530 is not designed to go below 0, yet on many of the pam222's it does!
  12. did you get this from the 2nd hand forum? or is this from a dealer? if I was buying new, then I think I would raise this to the dealer and reference the picture on the website which you purchased it from. Sending it back and what not is a huge hassel, but perhaps monetary compensation can help you get that hand painted properly from a watchsmith, perhaps? im a noob myself and tried my noobish hand at the buy/sell market here. I got a great pam rep that appeared to have a couple flaws on first blush, but after closer examination, it appears to be fine and works good for the money paid. tips for any buy/sell, 1. get pics, macros, detailed shots as much as possible. 2. get as much info as u can and possibly google background info regarding more pics from other enthusiast sites etc. 3. don't ship UPS. 4. have the seller mark the items as warranty repair, instead of gift. 5. try to get info on the movement, accuracy to the hour, and if all complications are functional 6. ask for any weird odors.. some of these leather straps have sometimes unpleasent smells 7. don't ship UPS.
  13. in north york, looking for someone reputable! trueno92@gmail.com
  14. ok, just received a watch from a seller, but this is my first automatic that when im charging it, the hands some how move a bit... and this i mean, the hour hand can move alot.. like off by a few hours on just a twist of the wrist.......... uh, im assuming this is unusual behaviour... has anyone else experienced this in the rep world? the power reserve meter also seems to not work..... unless there is an easy fix for this...
  15. wow, i was in shanghai, but found little nothing at street level. im sure there is something to be had in shen zhen, and also a few items in HK.. HK = markup compared to china and the Tag rep that i looked at was very far off from the original. asking price was something like 34xx HKD, so around 500 which was a total joke and they expect you to talk them down. i had no idea about the rep world and how enthusiastic the users are, when i visited........ :kicking self:
  16. Is there some magic way to wind this so that the power reserve hand starts functioning? The watch works.. but I am not sure what has to be done to get the power reserve hand to move.. right now its reading that dreaded below 0............... im a newb, and im learning. EDIT: GOT IT: looks like the PR meter takes a while to get to 0, but after that it starts to build pretty easily... from just wearing it. i guess its like how the gas in your car seems to drain faster when the gauge is past the halfway mark. top half seems to drain slower...
  17. hey guys, im new around these parts, but tell me more about this super-rep phenomenon thats been growing? i actually was looking for a crystal to replace a broken rep PAM063 i had kicking around, but that appeared to be just the tip of the iceburg once i found this forum. the knowledge here is great and i hope not to dilute the rep-culture that cultivates around here! i've noticed the rep-resale market moves really fast, but i can't figure out why that would be, unless the piece is modded etc... i doubt that the watches go out of production? im surprised that some ppl don't look for specific runs or batches to choose from... as movements accuracy is seldomly mentioned in the ads - is that just splitting hairs?
  18. ugh, looks like im in for a nasty brown surprise... looks like brown gouges on everything that gets handled by them.. i used to get autoparts, and that wasn't fun.. maybe we can bring some ideas into the discussion.. i've tried USPS ground for some autoparts and once it was declared as $300, i had to pay 20% of that in brokerages to clear it. i also found that USPS's tracking is pretty subpar, often with items still being stuck at the boarder. With UPS being somewhat more reasonable, but often out of order in its accuracy. found items from overseas thru EMS are often cleared and any fees are absorbed in the cost of airpost.... shipping ground doesn't get the same luxury.. any horror stories?
  19. hey everyone! Its been awhile, but I am in the all-too-familiar 'waiting' stage of having a rep in transit. I haven't shipped anything like this or jewelery over the boarder in quite some time. I know fellow Canadians used to detest UPS when it came to these and our choosy custom laws, since we would incur excessive "brokerage/customs" fees upon delivery of the item. Imagine waiting an extra 2 days for the item to clear customs, and then when the item is finally waiting for your signature, you have to pay another percentage based off the items "WORTH"........ i think in the land of replica watches, this could be quite a grey area, no? even on things such as USED BOOKS, ppl have been known to pay more than the items cost, just to finally get them. Are any of u still getting gouged by UPS when it comes receiving these or any other shipments? I'm just hoping for no surprises as I forgot to inform the seller to mark the package as a warranty-repair item Feedback, experiences, advice? Post it up!
  20. hey there, im new around here but been trolling for a while now. i have a question about the adjustment you mention. i have a pam222 on the way and in the pictures i see that the power reserve (PR) hand has been reading off below the 0 marker. does this mean that the range or alignment is actually off? so according to the scale it will never reach the 40 marker? how difficult is it to make this adjustment (other than taking the watch apart and adjusting the actual hand?) thanks!
  21. In loy yun gai in HK, there is an actual watch dealer that actually provides business cards and warranty's their watches for 1 year. I picked up a Pam063 gmt replica from him before i knew anything about replicas but it was a measly $280 HKD = $35 CAN dollar. I wish i took pictures, but at this counter there is one dealer with long hair that speaks quite good english and wears glasses. about 30 something years old.. His name is HUNG HAIR (no joke) anyways, he has a decent selection of pams if you ask for it, but again, don't walk into the tents along either of the strips that try to sell replicas for as much as $2000 hkd... but i guess u already know all this!
  22. wholly smokes this thread is on fire. but just a question from another newb.. regarding paypal. paypal can't allow you to list the word "watch" in the sales description? Is "timing device" or "timer" ok? ... back to our regularly scheduled programming...
  23. wow that looks awesome! what crystal is that? has a nice dome to it. looks like water at the brim of a glass. but is your strap upside down?
  24. wow i got the same watch wallet as scoobs! a quick question, where in canada did u get these mods done? i am pretty new to all of this, and i have a pam that i wouldn't mind modding, and another i would like to start.. repairing! !
  25. this is a goregous watch! just new to this little underground society, but where did u find the materials for all this? I am looking for something with that date wheel AND crystal... how much would a project like this cost?! lemme know!
