Fyi- i would recommend in the future when you get a TT rep get the 14kt, 'wrapped' version. its about $80 more but much better. these 18 kt. plated are not good- the sides of the links are not even covered. i have a few of the better versions some almost 2 years old and the gold looks good.
-
Thanks - that's an excellent review. the watch looks great, but obviously its heavily modded. So the truth is WM9 makes a very nice out of the box sub. Have you heard anything about the TT model?
-
Is it true that WM9 makes some of the best subs and TT subs out there? I know they're pricey, but are the claims true about the gold, etc.

What are your experiences with copy ETA movements?
Noel Fleischer replied to DemonSlayer's topic in General Discussion
as the man said- who really knows for sure which are copies unless you buy one and they tell you (ex. Puretime).or you are The Zigmeister and can take apart a watch. i've had the most problems with suppossed swiss etas (not including daytona which everybody knows are hellish). i'm going more and more with asian- at least i know what they are and they're cheap. the truth is i NEVER had any mechanical problems with all my cheapo asian reps. they may feel flimsy but they tend to work. as the man said- who really knows for sure which are copies unless you buy one and they tell you (ex. Can I swim or shower with GMT ll Ceramic?
Noel Fleischer replied to Master Chief's topic in The Rolex Area
i think they are water 'resistant' mostly for splashing or washing your hands. i don't think i'd risk swimming ( or even showering). the watches are not tested, but they do have screw down crowns. The Sea Dweller is 'factory tested'. you can supposedly swim with that. -
For me the case shape is off on most of the reps. the new rolexes have the wider lugs making the watch appear quite a bit bigger. most of the reps seem too small, the only accurate case now seems to be the new GMT ceramic.

in the words of Josh- dun like it!
-
Unfortunately i didn't find you guys till it was too late. i would routinely spend $700- 800 @ scam sites. i paid over a $1000 for a daytona said to be 7753 but i doubt it. i have been here about 4 months and already i see the prices going up fast. many of the new reps are $400-500. look at the ceramic BB for1100! now i won't usually pay more than $400, for example, i got a HB BB Lite for $269 and its great. i can't see the extra $800 for the top one. also, i started buying more asian clones or 21J (GMT ceramic @188). i have a bunch of problems with these so called etas. i know they exist but they are not the same as real store bought gens.

GMTIIC Owners - What is the state of your rep?
Noel Fleischer replied to freddy333's topic in The Rolex Area
Here's my 2 cents: IHS/ Asian bought from josh @ $188 So far; so good. working well, looks great. The band's a little stiff Here's my 2 cents: IHS/ Asian bought from josh @ $188 So far; so good. working well, looks great. The band's a little stiff -
Its obvious that Rolex, like many companies , have set their sights on the nouvelle rich in other markets. there is much more emphasis on the bling factor. i happen to like many of the models and think the basic DJ, subs ,etc are better than they were. i have 3 new gens - 2 DJ (1- ss; 1-TT) and a TT GMT ceramic. i really like all of them. First of all; they are slightly bigger. second the bands are MUCH better -IMHO than before. all of them have hidden clasps, not those cheapo stamped metal clasps. It seems that many of our members are vintage collectors and are appalled at the changes.

i've been reluctant to join the oversize craze. i'm a big rollie fan and only about 5'6'' -5'7''. i just got a Hublot BB and i must say i love it. at 44 its taken me a little while to get used to it. compared to a DJ @ 36mm its huge.

thanx freddy. i actually bought the graphite and took it to my watchsmith when i had problems with my other Daytona. he was reluctant to put it in the watch. i might just try it myself this time.
-
I ordered a Black SS Daytona- SE about amonth ago from Eurotimez. The watch looks fine - really the same as all the sites post and the price was right ($220) Unfortunately; the watch is already acting up - stops when i take it off, power reserve about 8 hours off the wrist, etc. This is the third and LAST one i'm gonna get. i have troubles with all of them. I'm not blaming Chris; i realize the Daytona is probably the worst mechanical rep. They sure do LOOK nice.

The end of an era, A7750 parts supply dried up...
Noel Fleischer replied to RWG Technical's topic in General Discussion
i have stripped the hand winder gear on a bunch of eta non-chrono movements. they are supposed to be 'swiss', but i nver had this problem with a gen. i did go out and get a 4 winder watch case. i've had a bunch of those but the motors seem to burn out with the heavier watches. -
i have to say - i have 3 new gen rolexes and i've never seen the crown etched on the crystal. they don't have green stickers anymore either.
-
I've been trying for awhile to show some pix, i'm quite a Luddite; here's Josh's $188 Asian Gmt vs my 10k TT gen!
-
I just ordered my first watch from Angus and i got the payment problem response. it seems like they want you to use pay pal. I called my cc company - there is no problem. I have to say - i think this is weird. it happened 2 times already. at this point i told them if they can't process the order; i would buy elsewhere.
-
I think BLUE.just ordered one from BK

Which vendor has the best GMTII ceramic
Noel Fleischer replied to rolexconfuse's topic in The Rolex Area
ichs/ chs -no biggie to me. i have the gen tt and if i didn't hear about this whole thing i never would have noticed. nobody in the real world knows which hand should be closer to the dial. if they get that close they better be sleeping with you anyway i have the $188 asian from josh and it runs fine. -
Got it . for $218 with shipping (asian), from Josh. can't beat it! also got a gen TT- love it but now theyr're like $11K IF you find them. luckily i bought it aruba last year befor the price & gold increases for $7500.

10 Mils Plated or just great big Hype?
Noel Fleischer replied to blingbling's topic in The Rolex Area
Josh sells a TT YM with a MOP/Diamond dial with 14 kt. wrap for $318. plating w/ 18 kt is $80 less. go with the wrap IMHO -
so it would appear by the math that 'the case is closed'. how can you buy a $200 rep with a movement that costs $200? some of the 'scammer ' site like ideal swear that they have swiss mov'ts. is it possible that @ $800 they can still put in a real eta mov't? some of them claim to use a 7753 in the daytonas does this even exist?
-
Great post -thanx. i have come to the same conclusion after buying about 30 reps over the last few years. at first i was very naive; believing for example that the scam sites sold 'real 18kt.' bracelets & bezels for $1200! many of my reps work fine, but maybe 40% have issues, especially with the crowns and stem mechanisms. my watchmaker thinks the mov't are all fakes, but good. btw- none of my gens have these issues. now i have decided pretty much to buy the 'asian' mov'ts as i did with the new GMT2 ceramic. what pushed me over was a rollie DD bought from Andrew. supposedly swiss eta, which came DOA. when the back was opened i could see the mov't was dirty, and IF swiss probably used. I personally would like to know the truth. at least @ Puretime they tell you the the mov'ts are asian clones.
-
I just ordered mine from josh- $213 w/ shipping. asian mov't with incorrect hand stack. josh assures me that it looks the same as the $400 version. i think its worth a try...
