  1. Hi V Barrett

I love fountain pens as well. I tried the rep game but was highly disappointed.

The reason why fountain pens are beautiful aside from the look is the way the pen glides on paper. This is primarily due to the NIB and compared to the rep MB that use a Iridium NIB, iits an absolute mess where it scratches and leaks. Imagine signing a very important contract with your rep pen and it ink splots over the contract...LOL.

More importantly, unlike the watches, the NIB is a dead giveaway, and so much easier to be called out on. This could be highly embarrassing since were not talking about a $20,000 Royal Oak, but a $200 fountain pen, which will really show your taste and knowledge.

I began with Watermans, and still have a few (Carene, and Edson). However, over time, I have found for the price of a decent Rep watch, you could own a very nice fountain pen or perhaps 2. This is a really important concept, a Rep Pen is much different than a Rep watch, since it contains a bomb of ink, and if it explodes / leaks, sure is going to ruin your Non-Rep Suit...

If I may be so bold, the Pelikan 400, 600 and 800 series are all phenomenal pens and competes right against the MBs of the world. IMHO, its a hands down vote, with a pitston filler instead of a converter, Pelikan is the pen of choice of the moment for many FIS (equivalent to our WIS) with the exception of the MB 149.

If you like heavier and bigger pens, review the 800 and 1000 series for Pelikans, otherwise sample a 400 or 600 which can compete against the MB 149.

FWIW, collecting fountain pens is one of those things that are highly addictive.

  2. I would advise to stay with Rollerballs and Ballpoints.

If you thought the WIS community was anal, the fountain pen community is even worse...and doesnt take more than a glance to see the difference.

I have a few MBs and even the high quality red St Dupont, but this is a much different animal than just telling time.

There is no comparison to a high quality fountain pen, especailly when placing this pen in your nice new shirt/suit.... <_<

  3. By-Tor

I appreciate your point by point commentary.

However, In general, what made the Planet Ocean so successful for both the board members and our dealers who went to extreme lengths, was the attention to detail and a higher level of quality.

I would tend to believe that both the board members and the dealers made out well in the end.

The point is, one would think the dealers can recognize this fact, and should be attempting to increase quality levels in order to increase demand.

I have to believe fixing the bezel insert, using the pearl specs from the planet ocean, using the HE valve concept from the PO, fixing the 3:00 clock marker, combined with AR coating would make the Seamaster as successful as the PO.

I understand that manufacturing operations mass produce, but sooner or later, that batch run should be out of stock sooner or later....

  4. The Omega Seamaster Professional in classic Bond Blue is one of my all time favorite watches. However, it seems at least from my last set of research that the REP still contains many flaws. For example, and to mention a few as I am sure a few WIS know more

    1) Bezel alignment - not a big thing, can be fixed

    2) Placement of the HE valve is too low

    3) Crystal requires AR coating

    4) Bracelet should be designed with Pins, not screws

    5) 3:00 clock marker missing on some reps

    6) Co-Axil label missing

    7) incorrect Bezel Pearl size

    8) Serial number

Now, if there was an Ultimate Seamaster, I am sure our dealers/manufacturer would make allot of money as this seems to be very popular on the boards.

Would there be a way to get some interest from one of our dealers to revisit this model. Its just aggravating to me to have so many choices in regards to brand and model type, but each respectively with so many flaws. Personally, I rather have a few really good reps, than allot of poorly made models.

    Any thoughts?

  5. I think its a rep.

The subdial spacing is off slightly.

Compare the 3:00 subdial spacing against the marker and then look at the spacing between the marker and the 9:00 subdial

It seems that its not evenly spaced, unless its the angle of the photo...

  6. I thought I read somewhere, that a new Omega was coming out that was RED.

Would anybody know anything about this...as I am unsure what that really refered to, the bezel insert or the dial

    Thanks in advance

  7. Klink's a [censored]wit,,, He banned me also,, I got into a "pissing" match with one of their moderators,, who BTW, owns that, "other" Panerai site,, Anyway,, I got into a pissing match with said moderator, on HIS site,, i was HAPPY to leave it there,, HE chose to drag it over to RWI,,, I responded to it,, I was also threatened by Klink to, "watch it, or else"... Needless to say,, I told him to go [censored] himself,,, Hahahaha,,, Since you seem to be monitoring this thread klink... Care to give YOUR side of my story?... Is E Hole still enjoying your, "reach arounds"?...... lolololollol

I agree with Adeeos and a few others around about those guys over at RWI.

Dont even visit there anymore as they have become increasingly militant.

RWI - please understand there are two other boards, just as good.

  8. Actually, i've done a crystal swap for the 2254.5000 black SMP.

I think on Ofrei's site, its the OME-062SA3008

    Omega Anti-Reflective Sapphire Crystal $149USD.

2 thing you want to consider.

    1. I had trouble installing it on my case, so i had to use Adhesive to make it fit.

    2. You are better off getting a flat crystal for $10USD instead, it will eliminate the glare and distortion as its not domed.

    hope this helps

How do you measure the crystal...

Would it be incorrect, to remove the crystal from the watch and then measure it from the open side or is this done from the top of the watch?

  9. @ Admin

Been there, was out for a while, about 5 months.

During that time, couldnt relax, enjoy myself at all despite a nice severance package. Constantly thought about the bills and how I let the family down. However, the more people you meet, the more common a thing it is, especially as you begin to reach the top of the pyramid.

The worst thing was all the low ball offers because they knew you were out of work.

    Work just sucks either way....

Advice - networking really helps, as not only will you get a few leads to pursue, but meet others who have similar experiences and you can lean on them when you need someone to speak with.

    Good Luck

  10. Just heard from Mr Li who agreed to withdraw his negative feedback if I withdraw mine. No word on my money though

Is there anything we can do...

I mean, there are a few hundred of us...what about an email campaign, threatening a boycott - showing strength in numbers.

Imagine receiving a few hundred emails, all with the same email content.

Might be able to leverage the forumn members, like we did for Dutchy...or even, the 100 posts for nudity campaign...

If you put something up that you want us to send, I would do it on your behalf....

  11. its better to spend that money on a waterpressure tester machine, uh?

However if ou have a lot of panerais and reps supossed to have ar coating with poor ar coating

    the coaters worths the pity.

We usually have another member living near us, so it would be a good idea that each location (madrid, london, california...) would have a shared machine by the members. Well that´s just a fantasy...

Looking for someone in the States to do some coating for me. Anyone available?

  12. 50% is unreal. Why would Andrew be so stupid to tell us that he is making more than 50% profit margin?

That is a pretty big assumption. Although its probably right.

However, certain business do liquidate STALE inventory at a high discount just to break even or take a small loss instead of having their cash tied up in inventory that isnt moving.

Will be interesting to follow up on this.

  13. No I was actually refering to how you can expect AR on the crystal and the correct engraving on the clasp of a cheap Asian, or even if you had done enough homework to find out what you can expect to get with the watch you ordered. <_<

    Ken

Actually, my watch was from a very Trusty dealer, and it wasnt Asian per se, ETA movement, although they probably are all Asian in some sense.

I saw By-Tors review and remember reading through it, just dont recall when I ordered the watch and when he updated it last to cover the GMT line - just dont really recall - my fault for not double checking.

Then again, how many other Omega reps other than the PO have AR coating, or conversly, how many Omegas have the dreaded SeaNasty...I cant bring myself to purchase another brand, my heart is with Omega. I tried a Rolex once, and so turned off on the bracelet, it sealed the deal for me and I gave it away to my nephew.

As for the Omega GMT, Its a beautiful watch and I am not trying to pass it off as real, just amazing how we can nickle and dime the PO model through 5,6,7 generations, but dont attempt to fix the big errors in the GMT model. I will probably work with Ofrei and change the Crystal and leave the minor flaws as I dont have Glass Wrists for anyone to see the SeaNasty or the Caseback and actually have become a fan of Screws compared to pins, easier to change.

  14. I recently purchased a Omega GMT (ETA) from one of our trusty dealers and noticed several flaws. I really like Omega watches, and this one in particular, but there are few things wrong with it. I dont want to invest too much money in the rep, but something has to be done.

    1. The watch has little to no lume

    2. Bracelet clasp reads SeaNasty

    3. No AR coating on the Crystal

    4. Back Cover is incorrect, shouldnt be the Sea Monster, but see through

    5. Bracelet contains Screws, not Pins.

Ok, so here is the problem.

The easiest change probably is to order a new clasp from Ofrei as each of the other items in the list require some handywork that I am convinced would be dangerous to attempt or less cost effective such as replacing the entire bracelet because of screws.

or would you just leave it as is, and reinvest any mod money into something else, such as a rail master or the latest PO...

    TIA

    TB

  15. PO just because the bracelet isnt cheap!!! :bleh:

I still dont understand a $4000 watch with a cheap bracelet, that feels like its made of tin.

So turned off by the bracelet, cant even think about purchasing another Rolex, even a rep.

  16. On previous watches, I have tried the full bezel removal, and only disappointed at my results which included scratching the band, and damaging the bezel washer/spring.

I used the hair drier on my latest Omega GMT and didnt make it too hot, but warm enough to forcefully move the bezel insert with my nail positioned on the rim of the Pearl.

My best advice is, dont cook the watch, just make it warm enough to allow movement on the glue. You will have to apply pressure, and it will move gently.
