  1. I'm also surprised that Dicaprio wore the avenger, that photo was shot on the set of his upcoming movie, a period piece set well before the avenger chrono even came out.
  2. The Tattoo shop owner on that TV show Miami Ink ALWAYS wears his Breitling SS Avenger, that's part of the reason I watch that show haha. That dude also has a few other cool watches. I also see Chris Angel, Mind Freak, wearing a white faced diamond encrusted Bentley every once in a while.
  3. I've been seeing them everywhere recently. Most notably on TV, but no screen captures. Leonardo Dicaprio is sporting a titanium avenger, which you can see just barely peaking out of his sleeve, while Nick Lachey is wearing a diamond encrusted Chrono of some kind. Spousal support from the wife must be nice!
  4. I wear any 44mm Panerai, but I always have to swap a rubber strap on it because SS and leather are just too harsh on the wrist for lifting weights etc.
  5. Perhaps it's the shear variety of Panerai watches that are available. I have about 38 different models, and I'm constantly buying and selling them when newer and improved models come out.
  6. Oddly enough, I see them everywhere. I have a habit of looking at people's wrists while I'm stopped at a stop light. I spotted a vew omega watches that way over the last few weeks. I spotted an expensive Patek on the hand of a man at costco. The only other place I see expensive watches is on TV. I haven't found a place where expensive watch entheusiests congregate in my town.
  7. I fit the SM dial in the 024 case by cutting the plastic spacer that came with the 024 a little bit. This 024 had a cheap asian 21j movement in it, with very similar dimensions. I recently got the 7750/sapphire 024 so I decided to chop up the old one. I used a PAM crown and a modified PAM/Omega replica stem. The hybrid watch is functional, but it's just for kicks.
  8. Haha yeah, I wouldn't actually WEAR the Pamega bastard watch, I just threw it together because I was bored. The power reserve on the 7j movement is very good it goes at least 30+ hours. I haven't had any other watches with this 7j movement, but I'm sure it was pretty common in the 90's. It's pretty funny how the hour indications on the Omega dial seem to line up perfectly with the dots on the submersible bezel.
  9. I have no doubt that pretty much everything is out of place on this watch, it's a super old replica. I recently combined it with a broken PAM024 to create a hybrid bastard watch: Sorry I dont have better pics of it before scrapping it hybrid:
  10. I'd shell out a few hundred dollars for tourbillon1801's decorated movement WITH some kind of longer regulator needle similar to the original. I was considering having my jeweler make engravements on the movement similar to the original, but I think I'd rather buy a replacement movement.
  11. I bought this thing on the streets of Hong Kong back when I was a 16 year old kid. The movement has been working flawlessly ever since with no servicing. Unfortunately the case and band have worn down so much that the brass core is visible. An old school piece of replica history, recently replaced by a Seamaster 007, GMT and PO. I noticed that the maker actually put their name on the inside of the watch caseback "Time Limited Made in Hong Kong". The movement actually says "ST CHINA Seven (7) jewels. I wonder why this movement sweeps so much smoother than so called "21j asian" movements. Seriously, the seconds hand sweeps just like an ETA, which is why I got curious and cracked the caseback open. Enjoy!
  12. I took this watch to my watchmaker finally, it turns out that there was a piece of straw (or hay or something) stuck inside the movement. Of all things that could go wrong. Cost me $10 to fix.
  13. I ordered a Vintage PAM from River a while back, it was shipped the same day and I got it in less than a week. I with it was always like that!
  14. I also got the new Bentley, I love it! I'd post pics and a review but BigNasty has alreayd taken care of that.
  15. "A Patek on a mid-level office worker is a lie that doesn't resemble reality and is therefore not believable, not because of the watch, but because of the person." The thing is that 99.9999% of people in any given office won't even know what a Patek or Panerai is, let alone how much it costs. Unless of course you work at a watch factory.
  16. I have one friend who owns a medical supply manufacturing company worth several million dollars. This guy is loaded and has all these authentic watches, but he can't dress for the life of him! He wears warm up suits and dresses like he's going to the beach every day. If I didn't know him I'd probably assume that all his stuff is fake. It's my theory that middle and upper middle class people who can buy authentic watches almost always dress the part, but millionaires for some reason are a craps shoot. Sometimes they dress like bums. If you saw Richard Branson walking down the street in shorts and a tshirt you'd probably scream FAKE FAKE FAKE if you saw him wearing a solid gold daytona. Anyway, I agree that people shouldn't be buying most Rolex replicas, most Rolex models are rather bland anyway and are more at home on the wrist of my 81 year old grandfather on the golf course.
  17. "I too am located in California, but I'm getting charged much more to use WU. The last time I send money from a WU location paying with cash, I was charged $29.99 to send $220. Granted, it was going to Canada and not China, but I've been charged similar amounts when sending money to Asian countries as well. What do you need to do to get the $14 charge?" My feeling is that different brokers may have different fees. For example; Habib's Liquor store may charge you $20 in fees, while your local large Grocery store may just charge $14 or so. It may also depend on whether or not you are using a credit/debit card as opposed to cash. Keep in mind that WU is like any business, when they accept your CC or debit card as payment, they probably lose 3% on the transaction and $.25 per transaction, so they are likely to pass those charges along to you if you are using a debit or credit card. Your best bet would be a Ralphs or Vons, or any large and rich supermarket who can afford to lower the fees.
  18. Generally I feel that it's a good idea not to point out when someone else is wearing an obvious replica. There is nothing to be gained from it. I'd just quietly observe because you never know what people's reaction might be, they could be crazy.
  19. I've said it before and I'll say it again, WU is not that hard to use! This if of course just my personal experience, being located in California. When wiring money to China (I've wired between $300 and $1700 at a time) the paperwork takes about 30 seconds to fill out. It doesn't matter if you don't have the recipients address and phone number because no one is going to get or cash your transfer unless they have the MTCN. I get charged USD $14 for each transfer. In order to make it more worthwhile, I order more than one watch at a time instead of dillydallying and buying one every couple of weeks. I've been told by other members that they get charged way more than $14 when sending money to China, (maybe because they are using debit/credit cards instead of cash) and I know it's true for our European friends, so this is just my own experience. I'm sending the money from a local Ralphs supermarket. Paypal is an unregulated bank. The more people you deal with, the greater your chances are of getting screwed, that is is paypal themselves don't end up screwing you. Some members have transfered hundreds of thousands of dollars without much problem, but others have been burned right away with paypal. I fully support any of our dealers who choose to drop paypal and use WU instead. If only there were a more economical solution in South America and Europe.
  20. I own a few versions of the 111. The Swiss one is a little heavier, has a nicer crystal and obviously the regulator. I'm a big fan of the Swiss version! Other than that, they appear to use most of the same parts.
  21. more PAM sightings: -Some random guy on a local cable TV cooking show was sporting a luminor marina -I've seen Donny Deutsch on MSNBC sporting one on his show and on a side note, I saw Bill Clinton with an AP offshore on some news special yesterday evening.
  22. thanks so much for your input, I'll check it out!
  23. I recently recieved a watch with a 2824-2 eta movement, but the hands are all frozen in place. The watch winds, but after opening the caseback I can see that nothing is moving. Anyone have any ideas as to an obvious and likely culprit?
  24. I tend to agree with most of you. Luckily I've never had a paypal complaint, but I thought about this topic because I recently sold a used 7750 Arktos to someone (outside this board) and he said that it stopped working after 2 days. I felt guilty, but then I thought; hey what if this guy dropped it on the ground or messed with the movement? It's impossible to tell I guess! He ended up taking it to his watch repair shop and it turned out that the movement was bone dry and just needed to be oiled.
  25. Hi everyone. I was wondering what eveyone's opinions were on this topic. There are two different scenarios: # 1. A dealer sells you a new watch. How long of a "warranty" do you expect to have on it? IE: if it stops working after 2 days, you obviously expect a replacement, but what about after 1 month? 2 months? 3 months? How long should the seller be liable for replacing or repairing your watch? What is fair? # 2. You buy a used watch on this or another board. It stops working after 2 weeks. Do you expect some kind of refund or return? So you expect any grace period at all with a used watch? Are you going to file a complaint with paypal? What kind of liability do you expect the seller to assume? looking forward to hearing what people have to say about this.
