I think some members seemed to have forgot what the RW in RWG stands for.

But its seems it should be renamed DSN bashing group.

With respect to the rumours on the CG. They fit Cartel watches and vice versa fact.

I have a DSN 055 one of 3 DSN I have. I broke the Crown gaurd on it and mail Davidsen asking to buy a new one. But being the mean incompitent watchmaker he clearly is apprently he sent me a new one FREE OF CHARGE. God he is so bad he didn't expect any money for it. The thing is the holes were not big enough to take the old screws. The cheap skate only sent a free CG and not the screws. Funny thing is the Crown gaurd on my cartel 177 was a piece of filed down [censored]. Oh guess what my FREE DSN fitted it perfectly and transformed the watch which I hardly used becuase the fanatstic cartel CG was a POS. Fast forward because of his poor quality watches I ordered a 229 and despite its poor backside actually works, and I got another titanium crown gaurd which fits perfectly on the 55 and the cartel 177.

The 241 looks great. Its 3hundredfrickindollars for a 5grand watch. It is not going to be frickin perfect.

If you don't want a DSN buy fronm someone else.

Oh I forgot NOONE else makes the 240

    I Love RW's

    Dispite their Flaws

Within stormtrooper's sarcasm may be some virtue, but the criticism of the 'New" DSN 104's being received by other forum posters is not about nit picking minor flaws.

I suggest interested parties do a search for "Panerai 104" on other forums.

The question of DSN QC with other models being released awaits a 240 buyer's report.

  2. What do the experts think of the new Davidsen 240? I know he's had QC issues with the 104 but wanted the hive's opinions on this offering. I've been talking to him about getting one for over a month now and have been waiting for it to be released.

    Thanks guys!

    Davidsen 240

The problem is not that the watch pictured is not a very good rep. Indeed, on first blush it's a handsome piece.

The question is whether that is the watch you'll be getting.

Too many posters on RepGeek, RWG, and RWI have posted disappointment with the QC of the new "updated " DSN releases they have received.

Most have returned the faulty watch, requesting replacements, refunds, or some other remedy. Some have kept the watches and spent extra to correct the poor QC.

None the less the whole exercise is a hassle because DSN is half a continent away.

  3. So, I have Andrew's "Best" 104 and love it. It's all I wear these days. There are some things about it though, that kind of bother me.

    Interested in feedback.

First of all, The most common negative comment I hear about this rep is the placement of the "L SWISS MADE L" printing in that it touches the "6". This doesn't bother me. Mine doesn't actually touch the 6, although it is pretty close, but so is the below GEN example:

    Mine:

    lswissl.jpg

    GEN:

I also like the CGs, crown (not too bad anyway), date font and mag, crystal and AR, and the overall look and feel of the case on my Andrew rep:

    My rep:

    My rep:

    My rep:

There are a couple of things that really bug me about my rep. The first thing is that the seconds subdial appears to be recessed and the same finish as the rest of the dial on the GEN. On mine, it is flush with machining (a ring cut in) to make it appear to be recessed. it also has concentric rings machined in it. I don't believe this is correct for the 104 (please correct me if I'm wrong).

The DSN dial seems to get this right.

Here is a close up of my rep dial:

    GEN:

    DSN:

    DSCF7290.jpg

The other thing that I'm not sure about is the shape of the case. Mine appears to be a little more "round" (not quite as square) than the GEN. It's hard to tell if there is really a difference from these pictures, or if it is an illusion due to different lighting. I can't tell for sure if DSN's is any better than mine.

I have considered buying the DSN, but I'm a little concerned with the lack of QC he has been demonstrating lately. I have also considered buying his dial only and doing a swap.

    Any thoughts and/or recommendations?

    Thanks,

    Mike

The issue, at least with the "new version" of DSN 104, is that buyers are not receiving what is pictured on his web site.

Poor QC has led to many postings about the sloppy rep received.

Mine had a faulty crown mechanism which made it impossible to set the date or time.

It's currently with Vacuum getting a thicker crown and, hopefully correcting the stem problem.

  4. those are some fantastic straps

I soaked my SC cigar gator strap overnight in Lexol to soften it up.

It did. But it darkened it also. But it's a wicked looking strap.

I ordered another cigar gator strap because I wanted the slightly lighter color to show up more.

I haven't gotten it yet (it's at the PO), but I'll post pictures of all the straps soon as I learn how.

  5. mjm,

for people looking for a nice civilized gator strap... I'd suggest looking elsewhere (not really)... but if you want a serious, this-gator-probably bit-someone's-leg-off-last-week-and-they-had-to-shoot-it-before-it-killed-somebody kind of gator strap.... here you go:

    sc1002yf0.jpg

btw, don't want to spoil it for you, but i had to wait 3 mos for this strap and as far as i know the last batch was pretty much sold out before they were even finished making them.

I've got 4 of their gator straps.

Gentlemen a SC gator strap is an absolute piece of furniture.

It dominates the watch, Pan or otherwise.

People will ask about the strap, not the watch.

And you buy the exact strap pictured, and numbered.

What you get looks exactly like the picture!! :D

  6. Sounds like you got a returned watch, sounds like the one I got originally. Well, at least you'll be able to do something with it.

DSN is getting hammered in other forums.

Over on RepGeek he's getting pummeled about the poor QT of his "new" 104.
