  1. The LARGE seconds hand is not supposed to run unless the chronograph is running. Only the small seconds moves during normal operation. EDIT: Beaten to it. Twice!
  2. I don't like the strap (thought it's obviously available without it), I don't like the red Seamaster text, and i don't like the slower beat of the co-axial movement. I do like the slightly larger hour markers. If i were to have the gen, i'd prefer the old one. As it is, i bought the rep the first day it came out, so i'm a happy bunny anyway.
  3. Hey Mark. Noone's a machine, and it's good that you're smart enough to know when you're doing too much. I was pretty late coming to you with my Pam needs and problems - due to me only learning to love the Pams recently - but you always came through. I can't wait to get my PVDd 112H back with its new swiss movement, and I wish you well in the future. I'm glad to hear you'll still be sharing you knowledge here.
  4. The two tone Navitimer is the first Breitling i've actually liked. I want the black dialed fighters one, with bracelet and leather band (so i can swap between), but it's on a long list of watches i want. I can't see me getting one in the near future.
  5. If it's a bond style Seamaster, it will probably come with screws in the band aswell. They used to come with pins, like the genuine. If you still want a link remover (best £5 i ever spent - Used it on countless watches), then try Ebay, or they go up for sale here now and again.
  6. 253. Reason being, i already own a 192, and i think the 253 is just different enough to warrant a purchase, unlike the 212.
  7. 1. Submariner LV 2. Paul, as Abay-Eshop 3. No.
  8. Here's mine. Reps that are available: Omega Railmaster on croc Omega De-Ville two tone, on bracelet Omega Seamaster Chrono (though i'd prefer the white version with chrome bezel) Old factory Seamaster (latest style), black Rolex 1665 Sea-dweller (white letter, MBW/WM) Rolex 1680 Red Submariner (MBW/WM) Rolex 16613 two tone sub, black Breitling Navitimer fighters two tone, black dial, on bracelet, but with extra leather strap. Panerai 231 Panerai 253 IWC Jones, Rose gold IWC Portuguese chrono, Rose gold Reps that aren't available: Lange 1 Rolex Daytona with a bulletproof movement (silver, black sub dials, arabic numerals) Tag Carrera chrono, black (the one with 12, 9, 6 subdial layout) Perfect modern and LV Submariner
  9. 1665 white. When i finally get an MBW/WM (ie. when other watches stop getting in the way), that's what i'm going for. Have you seen Bazz's? It's gorgeous.
  10. As those all appeared on the dealer's websites at about the same time, i guess they're all from the same factory. You've experienced all the dealers you list, so make your decision. Is the service of Josh, Andrew or Silix worth the price difference over Paul? Great choice by the way. I really must get around to buying one myself. PS. I just got a 42mm 5th gen Planet Ocean on leather from paul. My first from him in about 12 months. It took a while, but A) He's the only once who sells that model afaik, and it's over $100 cheaper than anyone elses. The price difference was worth the risk imo. Now i'm happy.
  11. There have been a LOT of POs on the market. Here are my recollections. Dates are very approximate, as it's totally from memory. Gen 1: Circa June 2005. I believe Joshua was the first dealer her with the first POs. These had a white date wheel, and very badly shaped hands, and the wrong font on the bezel insert. Flat bracelet, no planet ocean engraving on the clasp. I think the seconds hand was too short tooand the case back was wrong. Asian movements only. Gen 2: Circa August 2005. Same as above, but with the date wheel and bezel font fixed. I think TTK managed to get some 45mms with black date wheel about this time to, and retro fitted them with ETA movements. Gen 3: Circa Dec 2005? (just guessed this one). A leap forward. TTK was the first with these iirc. ETA movements right out of the box. These had a great dial, great hands (full length) and curved bracelet. HEV was in the correct place. They still lacked the Planet Ocean on the clasp, and i believe that they were 43mm, not 42mm. Precious Time later offered these with Planet Ocean engraved on the claps, but it was done by an engraver, after leaving the factory. Gen 4: Circa March 2006. 42.5mm This is when the PO scene started hotting up. There were a lot of POs cropping up. Andrew was first here with the PO commonly refered to as 4th Gen (I bought one). ETA movement. The hands are just a little too short, but dial and bezel are great. Logo placement is hit and miss. Some people's touch the Omega writing. First one with Planet Ocean on the clasp in the correct font. Around the same time, Joshua also had some different POs (42.5mm). The dials on these had oversized 12, 6, 9 writing, large text, and the Omega symbol was printed on. These also had a curved bracelet, and Planet Ocean on the clasp. They looked very much like the current 45mm models with the 22mm lugs. 45mm Around this time, Andrew also got in some asian 45mm models. These had the best 45mm dial yet, with nice writing, and nice sized 12, 6, 9. I bought a black one of these on rubber. On these, the crown is short, and the HEV is bang on 10. Link to this model on Andrews site Gen 5: Circa May/June 2005. 45mm TTK and Paul came out with these at about the same time. Basically, these have the same case and dial as the one mentioned directly above (Andrew's asian), but with ETA movement, sapphire crystal, and the curved bracelet of the 4th gen. As they use the same case, you can get it on rubber srtap. 42.5mm The 4th gen became the 5th gen according to Paul. They became available on leather srtap, and in the new 2006 colours (Black bezel, with orange numerals on the dial), but are otherwise the same as the 4th gen (I have one on the way) Gen 6: August 2006 to present. 45mm The 45mm models took another leap forward. Finally they have a correct shaped case (with correct HEV), bezel, and 22mm lugs. The bracelet also has both 'Professional' and 'Planet Ocean' engraved on it, as per genuine. The only problems with this model, as far as a i can see, are the hands (short again) and the dial. It isn't as good as the previous ones, and is more like the 42.5mm ones Joshua used to stock. The 12, 6, and 9 are once again oversized, as is the writing on the dial. Buy one of these, and use the dial (and maybe the datewheel incase they don't align) from the previous 45mm version, add some genuine hands, and you'll have the ultimate PO rep IMO. The whole generation thing seemed to crop up when TTK's 3rd gen arrived, and i believe he called it that. After that, Andrew followed suit (4th gen) and then Paul (4th gen, and later 5th gen). So i guess the current 45mm, is technically 6th generation, if you count the periods where significant developments in the Planet Ocean reps happened.
  12. Here's a (bad) pic, and a write up. http://www.bbc.co.uk/antiques/antiquesroad...jects/905.shtml I didn't see the show, but it says £200K there. It must be wrong.
  13. I have about 15 watches. Of those, i wear my about 7 or 8 regularly. 2 i never wear (due to faults), and the rest i wear rarely. I think i've only worn my TT sub with silver serti dial about 5 times in 18 months. That's not because i don't like it, it's because it's a little flash for most places i go. The last time i wore it was in April, when my brother got married. I'm a bit of a hoarder, and i've only ever parted with 2 reps. Both of those were watches i already had, and i kept the best ones. I don't buy a watch unless i intend to keep it. There was one exception, when i bought a PAM036 just to try the 44mm size on my wrist.
  14. I wore it when i went out last night. It looks stunning on the wrist. But, come Monday morning, it's off to Finepics to make it complete. It's having swiss 6497 (with pin fix), and a crystal swap for a sapphire one from one of my other pannies. This will make this great watch just about perfect in my eyes, but i might get a solid case back sometime in the future too. I'm looking forward to seeing your next projects V. For you to sell this and your beloved 212, it must be something really special.
  15. I was going to go the upscaling DVD player route myself, but as i upgraded my PC, i decided to build a dedicated media PC using some of the spares, and a new case and motherboard. Hooked it up to the PC (VGA) input on my screen. I couldn't be happier. It took a while to set up, but i'm now using Theatertek DVD player (based on the Nvidia's Purevideo) along with FFDshow to upscale. Not only that, purevideo can also properly de-interlace suitably encoded 1080i/60Hz streams to provide 1080p at 24 fps, which looks pretty sweet. Especially on movies with a decent bit-rate (17-20Mbps). Plus, if you use Theatertek, you can choose which file formats FFDshow works on (a feature i haven't seen elsewhere) so you don't end up having to disable it when you watch HD material. On the HD-DVD/Blu ray thing. I really hope one format dominates (and quickly), or i can see neither format becoming mainstream. That can only be a bad thing for us, the consumer, as we'll never get anything like the library of video you currently get on DVD. For this reason, i hope noone releases a reasonably priced combo player, as we'll end up with two confusing formats, as we have with DVD-R and DVD+R. PS. I also used to use an XBox with XBMC to play my media too. The only problem with it is a 733MHz celeron isn't fast enough to handle 720p material. Other than that, it was great. XBMC is an awesome piece of software. It's a shame M$'s MCE isn't anywhere near as good.
  16. Now i don't need to bother It WILL be loved. I fear my much loved 111H (Super lumed by Finepics) will soon be relegated to second place in my affections.
  17. It's the weekend, maybe that's why you haven't heard. You have followed the "How to order instructions" right?
  18. The hands are easily replaced with genuine ones. The biggest problem with the 22mm lugs model is the dial. The oversized text, and oversized 12, 6, and 9. It doesn't look anywhere near as good as the last model. To make the ultimate, you need the older 45mm for the dial, and the new one for the case and bracelet. The hands from the older one would also do, as they aren't shot (well they weren't last time i looked).
  19. I'd buy one. Not the 2006 main event one, but either the 2004 or 2005 main event, or the standard gold bracelet. I'd never wear it, but it'd be nice to have.
  20. The only exception to the rule i can think of, is the old Omega Seamaster reps from 2004. They were exceptional. I wish i'd have known about reps just 3 months earlier, so i could have bought some.
  21. I love it. I've been so tempted to get a fiddy or 203 since i got my 111H, but i'm so afraid of the 47mm size on my 6.75" wrist. I think 44m looks plenty good enough. This would be ideal. I even like the fact that it doesn't say the word Panerai on it, as it's not a watch they make.
  22. I haven't had PTs ultimate sub, but i have had Andrews, which appears to be the same watch. On that one, the bezel insert was the same shape as aftermarket insert (a triangular cross section), so should glue right in, without modification. On this watch though, i think the supplied insert is plenty good enough, and an aftermarket one (other than genuine) is a waste of money. That money (IMO) would be better spent improving the date magnification, which is the only reason i haven't ditched my current subs in favour of the so called 'ultimate' ones.
  23. I keep hearing that, but i'm a recent Pam convert (despite 18months on RWG1 and .CC) and i can't see a difference. Anyone want to enlighten me? I have a vague recollection it was something to do with the lugs?
  24. Of the ones posted, i see the following. Eddie's new one looks the same as PT's ultimate, and Paul's "so called"ultimate. Andrew also carries this watch, but it's not the one linked to. Can be bought in ETA and asian movements from Andrew and TTK (when he has them). Andrew's (the one linked to by the OP) is same ( apart from the decorated movement) as the old CN (Chinese) subs. These hit the market about may/june last year with the then NEW hollow link bracelet. The pros and cons of each are as follows: Ultimate (the new CN sub?): Pros: Good crown guards - the best ones so far IMO, but still not quite perfect. Good date position Good bezel insert and pearl. Should be swappable for a genuine or aftermarket insert without sanding down. Better click mechanism. Cons: Weaker date mag (more like 2x than 2.5x) The dial on the LV isn't as good as the old CN sub (bold m, swiss made over 3 ticks, fat marker surrounds). The bracelet on the one i had was very sharp on the edges the crown is a little too fat Old CN sub (Still stocked by Andrew, Joshua, Paul, King, Silix, and maybe PT (i've seen it offered as a raffle prize by him recently): Pros: Great date font and magnification The LV dial is just about perfect Bracelet is nicely finished (no sharp edges) Nicely shaped crown Cons: Pearl can be hit and miss. The bezel insert cannot changed for aftermarket/gen withouth shaving. Fat CGs The date is positioned too far right That is by no means a definative guide, but i do own two of the old CN subs (Black and LV), and did breifly own the asian version of black 'ultimate' sub, and is simply based on my observations and opinions. Just decide which you prefer. Personally, i've stuck with the old CNs because i love the huge date mag. If this changes in the future, i might switch.
