Just a few more things to figure out, still digging for the answers:
- On getting the GEN dial....make sure it's for 3035 movement? So it fits in the 16000 case and on top Stilty's adapter ring?
- Tube is ok, threads look good....what size is the crown on 16000 case?
AND A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL for your answers and advice! I appreciate you VERY MUCH !!

Or you could just buy the one that is already built and for sale in the watches section......
Saw yours...inspired me!! Hope mine turns out a tenth as nice as yours!
-
Thanks a TON!! Great info and I'll be in touch for those parts Stilty....appreciate you all very much!!

I got a 16000 datejust case from a friend who didnt want to invest the time in building. Here is what I have:
- 16000 Case
- Caseback
- Fluted Bezel
I am sourcing all the parts to build and have read alot but I am confused on a couple things. Help me out?- Serial # is 8385XXX…..is that an 80′s?
- Which ETA movement would be the best/easiest to use for this case?
- Is there somewhere to source an adapter ring for an ETA movement?
- Which size dial is correct for this case? It’s confusing!
I'm going with (sourcing):
[*]Rep Jubilee band
[*]Gen Clasp
[*]Gen Crystal (plastic)
[*]Gen Crown
[*]Gen Tube
[*]Gen Hands
[*]Gen Dial
[*]ETA 2892-A2??
[*]Gen Date Wheel??

Working on the building same type of project here! I dont have an old factory case but I do have a gen dial, hands, crown, tube, and the 1120...This is what I needed to see!
-
Not a fake buddy...that's a Gen Military Seamaster from the late 50's early 60's. I'd check inside the caseback and movement for dating the it though. Very common and desireable depending on condition and originality of the piece. Some even had some engravings on the back for military units. Wish they had not touched that dial, or the hands. Some patina or actual aging woulda been really nice. Looks like you got some pitting on the case too...but overall an extremely nice piece! I envy you! Wear it well, that watch is a stunner.......!
-
Save yourself some heartache...get the Gen crown & tube! It's a 3 outta 5 on the skill, but it's oh so worth it!

I just traded for a MBW 1665....I love what you two are doing! Makes me really appreciate what I have.
I'd love to get a gen crown & tube, where did you guys buy? Mine seems a little "iffy"
What will you do about the caseback?
How about those datewheels.....I read they are too thick (ubi's)?
How about a breakdown in $$$ spent on these parts?
-
Im interested.....I'd buy two with the standard "if's"
-
What an extremely wonderful and fantastic read. Truely a pleasure!
-
Nice one doc, always one of my favorites

I'm slowly warming up to Rolex Reps, my question to all you "professional" modders is:
Some reps seem to offer easily the ability to accept Gen parts..some don't. Is there a definative list of what works?
Would it be too time consuming or difficult to compile such a list? I know from dealer to dealer the reps are different in some reguard, how about we use a standard spec sheet:
REP:_____________
Dealer(s):_____________ (all)
Case Size:_____mm
Movement: _____________
NO MODS and Swapable:
Crystal (YES/NO)
Bezel (YES/NO)
Bezel Insert (YES/NO)
Hands (YES/NO)
Dial (YES/NO)
Crown (YES/NO)
Crown Tube (YES/NO)
Braclet/strap (YES/NO)
Clasp (YES/NO)
