  1. that looks great! i have been really tempted by the orange non chrono. but have never seen a good members pic of the rep. i do know that the reps have the members of the anomino forum concerned
  2. i'm tempted too but concerned that the crown seems crooked?
  3. ok, here is giorgio's post that i specifically replied to: i don't see anything there about display backs, or seconds at 9:00, or the need for a 7750? do you? others may have posted while i was posting, or sitting outside having coffee. but generally when you include a quote in a post that is what you are (IMHO) responding too. i have been collecting watches for over ten years. if i ever made a blanket statement that was completely wrong my response when corrected would be "wow, didn't know that. thanks!". not petulant, childish, posturing...
  4. gee, i cut and pasted one link wrong. do i need to post a link to the non-chrono ferrari with the 7750 for you? personally i don't think the mods should lock this thread. it's much more fun to keep it open so you can continue to show the lovely combination of petulant and uninformed that you have exhibited so far...
  5. personally i like the martac/zulu version of the nato best. i've found the thin edge of the fabric on the real nato straps cut into my wrist? and i think the thicker material and beefier hardware on the martc version just looks better on a big watch i get mine from bob at MWR: http://www.broadarrow.net/maratac.htm
  6. well... since you insist on being a tool here you go: http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=71010 http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=71011 http://www.pc-80108.com/cp10007-gran-touri...bph-p-2788.html http://www.pc-80108.com/pn05001-40mm-autom...7750-p-451.html http://www.pc-80108.com/pn22001-44mm-autom...7750-p-448.html http://www.silix-prime.com/product.asp?id=1797 http://www.silix-prime.com/product.asp?id=1927 http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...726&hl=7750 http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...100&hl=7750 http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...478&hl=7750 http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...169&hl=7750
  7. there are already a lot of non-chrono reps that use the 7750. a lot. and i totally agree with two tone. if you don't like the watch, fine. not my cup of tea either. but calling out one of the most established dealers on the forums is just not necessary
  8. dial is absolutely gen. no rep has the indices right.
  9. in the late 1960's (i think 1969?) there was an "international observatory competition" to produce the most accurate mechanical wristwatch. seiko made a special high beat VFA grand seiko that evidently blew away all the european competition. it was just after that event that COSC decided they would no longer test any non swiss made watches for a chronometer rating some of the most priced watches among seiko collectors are the grand seiko's made before that decision and labeled 'chronometer'. makes you wonder if COSC is a standards organization OR just a fancy marketing tool
  10. you can occasionally find vintage king seiko's or lord marvels marked "hi beat" with the 36,000bph movement for under $400 or so. i just realized i don't have a pic of my white dial king seiko chronometer on my laptop or i would post it grand seiko's or the 36,000bph professional divers will cost a lot more!
  11. because 90% of the people who ever join rep forums immediately ask "who makes the best sub". the first day. without using the search feature and reading the 100's of posts about just that question. it's actually a running joke it's possible eurotimez could get you extra links with a watch. his customer service has (IMHO) been first rate so far.
  12. i have a small credit from jay at silix from a part that did not fit and was thinking about using it to get a 20mm omega rubber dive strap? i have both an old factory black SMP (modded) and a 42mm 4th gen P.O. i think i would be happy with the rubber strap on either one, and i'll just put the dimodell coronissimo that's been on the SMP on the other watch. my question is: does jay's 20mm rubber omega strap fit the P.O. or the SMP? or is it a crappy fit on both? for $51 i'm hoping it's decent quality and that it will work well with no gapping on at least one of the two omegas? has anyone tried jay's strap on both watches? opinions? thanks!
  13. here is one i used to have on a 22mm B-UHR big pilot style strap in black buffalo i got on ebay. cost more then the rep
  14. i have had two seiko's with the 36,000bph movements and the sweep is amazing. particularly on a big divers watch with a long second hand afaik 36,000bph (10 per second) is about the highest beat ever in a purely mechanical movement? and pug is right. the springdrive is smoother. i had the chance to hold my seiko tuna can 600m pro diver next to a 600m springdrive diver and the springdrive was smoother. i just wish the dial was not quite so busy on the springdrive
  15. with gas at $4 a gallon and living in california and only 15 blocks to work, my saab and my good bikes stay home and this one gets me around town
  16. ttk is no longer a dealer here and i believe nakiraa is on a buying trip and unavailable... you can get a real noobmariner (the same thai model that ttk used to sell) from eurotimez, one of our newer forum dealers. if you become a supporter you should be able to see his forum. his are all quality control tested (he does not drop ship like joshua) before selling. i recently bought a noob yachtmaster from his and was very happy with the watch and the service
  17. i've had a marine master for almost 7 years now and you can absolutely put me in the "marine master is a better watch" category there is a member here selling a genuine sub bracelet only for $1400US? i paid less than that for my MM from katsu higuchi, brand new. with a far far better bracelet than the sub, and much better lume, and (according to my watchmaker) a far superior movement. that came with a bracelet with an adjustable divers extension and a rubber strap and a spare buckle. the reason the MM came with a hardlex crystal was that it was one of the last seiko dive watched designed by tokunaga san and he did not believe that sapphire was the best choice for a professional divers watch. the 600m springdrive diver was designed after his retirement. personally i'm willing to give a man with 2-3 dozen patents on watch design the benefit of the doubt i sold a gen bond SMP to buy the MM and have never regretted it for a moment. it still runs +1/2 seconds a day and glows like a torch at night!
  18. very cool! i also have all of alan flusser's books, bought back when i dressed for work
  19. i've actually had the gen and the the rep blue SMP and got rid of both. i like my modded old factory black SMP better than either one. i like the look of that one quite a bit! don't worry too much over being called out by anyone but a true WIS. i had an idiot try and call me out at my local coffee shop one day in an attempt to impress his date. he was wearing a big square chrome plated brass guartz fossil and asked me about my watch. then said "when i get one i'm going to get the real one. the blue one". so i asked what made him think mine was not real? and he said "everyone knows they only come in blue". while they watched i opened the omega page on my laptop to the 2254.50.00 SMP next time i saw them i was wearing a modded davidsen 5218-201a and the girlfriend said it was really cool and that he should get one of those... and asked what they cost
  20. i believe the ebay inserts do fit the 4th gen. i just ordered one from ebay myself since i have not heard back from jay but i don't think the entire genuine bezel from frei will fit. some members have ordered the genuine bezel and swapped the insert, but that seems an awfully expensive option to me.
  21. i have had literally dozens of watches with the seiko 7S movements, and have the new 6R series movement diver the explanation given by seiko for the lack of a hand wind option on the 7S movements was that the "magic lever" winding system is so efficient that hand winding is not needed. and with the warnings from The Zigmeister (and some of the watchmakers on the seiko citizen forum) about the dangers of hand winding automatic movements is seems to make sense to me. the thing i do find interesting about all the seiko 6XXX and 7S movements is that they tend to run fast when not fully wound? i read an explanation from a watchmaker once for the reasons behind that, but just didn't know enough to understand it
  22. eek! http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080416/od_nm/watches_dc_1
  23. i find it funny how often the springdrive is described as "quartz" or a "hybrid" on the gen forums (besides SCF). i honestly believe that if the springdrive movement had come out with rolex or IWC or omega or panerai on the bridges it would be described as "the biggest advance in the recent history of horology"
  24. i've had a number of watches with japanese quartz chrono movements, both miyota/citizen and seiko. including a couple of the seiko 1/100th second chronos. if you leave the chrono running all the time the battery generally will not last two or three months...
