  1. i like it a lot! i really miss my stainless seawolf. the only rep i truly miss
  2. it is possible to make a quartz movement with a smooth sweep, but no one does. there have been a few experiments over the years by genuine watch makers and pretty much all have failed. the basic reason is battery life. a quartz watch with a smooth sweeping second hand would have a battery life measured in months or even weeks instead of years. no one wants to buy a watch that they have to change the battery on every month
  3. i wonder what the gas is that's used in the packaging? if i had to guess it would be one of the noble gases like argon or even nitrogen. argon would probably be "better" as it should prevent corrosion or any kind or any breakdown of the lubricants. i doubt we will ever know
  4. i would rather wear my noobyachtie rep than a genuine yachtmaster II
  5. actually the noobmariner bracelet is considered to be one of the best rep sub bracelets out there. a number of members with highly modded eta subs with genuine parts have chosen to use the noob bracelet on their watches
  6. here is mine on the rep strap on a 6.75" wrist...
  7. i'm guessing the sunken pusher on the side of the case 'sets' the power reserve, just like the cheap big pilot reps i cannot imagine any other reason for it to be there...
  8. i wish i tried a 24X24 pam strap on it and made the totally dumbass mistake of putting the springbars inside the tubes. i ended up destroying a maestro strap and the tubes and the 24mm springbars just to get the strap off. no one in town seems to have 24mm springbars so i am waiting on an order from frei...
  9. i would not say this is novel by any means but i am having a difficult time wearing mine on the rep strap with the deployment. there is very little curve to the deployment and on my 6.75" wrist the watch and strap almost make a square bob on my wrist. so i ordered a 24X20mm BOB strap in a slightly lighter and more reddish brown than the rep strap with a tang buckle. if i could find a 20mm breitling tang buckle i think it would be the perfect combo, until the rep rubber strap becomes available anyway!
  10. actually i know a couple guys from a knife watch forum that have had gen watches done in PVD or boron carbide (much, much harder than PVD) or satin bead blasted by jack at IWW. the black gen sub that was done with a matching black bracelet looked really cool while you can file a lawsuit against anybody for anything trying to sue someone for work you requested and paid to have done is a good way to end up paying your court costs and the other person's and damages...
  11. yup http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=70400&hl=
  12. actually i think the rose gold on rubber is damn cool! then again i'm currently driving my 3rd saab
  13. mine should be here any day from eurotimez... and it is all by-tor's fault
  14. i totally agree with that i have the brown/bronze and it's... stunning. just don't be an idiot and do what i did i decided to try a 24mm pam strap on it and mounted it with the springbars inside the tubes. which looks ok, but i decided to order a BOB croc grain with a tang buckle as the deployment does not work that well on my small wrist. then realized the tubes prevent any access to the springbar ends to remove them, doh! i ended up having to destroy a maestro 24mm strap and the pam tubes and the springbars. now i can't find 24mm springbars anywhere in town and will have to order them from frei and wait probably 2-3 weeks...
  15. i doubt anyone has had one long enough yet to have it re-lumed. and honestly mine would be one of the last watches in my watch box to ever consider spending money on a lume job for. i had The Zigmeister do my avenger seawolf, which has about the same size dots, and even after a terrific lume job they did not glow much at all. they are just too small and without making a complete mess of things you cannot get enough lume on the dots to make them glow.
  16. when my friend's 600m springdrive arrived we met for coffee and i took my seiko 600m pro auto diver with the 36000bph movement. the sweep on the springdrive was noticeably smoother. it's like you know there is a tick to it but can't quite see it i have also handled a number of the citizen campanolo's at seiko/citizen forum gatherings and the level of fit and finish is amazing. one of the SCF members actually has the boxed set of a complete campanolo gruppo AND the watch that came with it! they may be quartz, but some are 23 jewel quartz movements! few people know that starting in the mid 1990's citizen began producing a watch called 'the citizen' as a competitor to the seiko 'grand seiko' line. with a 10 year warranty and lifetime free service.
  17. actually the 600meter springdrive diver is only about $3600, and was just at $3000 when it came out and i taked a friend in to buying one for that money you get a hand assembled totally in house 30 jewel mechanical movement with a 72 hour power reserve and a power reserve meter, a functioning gmt hand, 600 meter rated water resistance (actually tested to 800 meters according to tokunaga-san who has been designing the seiko dive watches since the 1960's), amazing lume and a "rated" accuracy of +15 seconds a month . my friends runs +3/5 seconds a month. you have to wonder how much all that would cost if it said omega or IWC on the dial and not seiko
  18. it would be very cool to be able to listen to one on the timing machine i had a seiko 600m pro diver with the 36000bph movement and watching that long second hand sweep so smoothly was mesmerizing!
  19. wow... i still have; fm conquistador w/2892 old factory black smp pam 029 w/2892 old factory pam 036 but kick myself every time i open my watch box for selling my seawolf otherwise i suppose my collection is... priceless
  20. i may be biased but: seiko 6309 diver from the abyss seiko speedmaster giugiaro from alien seiko H558 arnold from commando seiko 6105 diver from apocalypse now
  21. an update... i still have no idea what this insert is supposed to fit? i'm going to borrow a set of calipers and measure the inner and outer diameter of the insert that was on the 4th gen planet ocean and measure the one jay sent. jay said he will check on getting me one that fits
  22. i have a weird problem with the bezel insert for my 42.5mm planet ocean? i ordered a new breitling heritage from jay and since he was sending a package anyway i also ordered a black bezel insert to replace the orange on my 4th gen eta planet ocean. just never been thrilled by the orange. the package arrived fine but when i put the black insert up against the p.o. it looked too small? so i carefully took the bezel off and popped out the old insert from the rear and the new black insert is too small? by almost 2mm? it floats around inside the lip of the bezel and if centered leaves almost a 1mm gap all around the outside edge. in fact it won't even fit over the crystal? it is a 42mm p.o. i've had both the 42 and the 45mm and know the difference. i could understand the insert being too small if i ordered one for the 45mm and got the 42mm by mistake. but what could be smaller than the 42mm????????????????? it looks like a planet ocean insert and all the markings are correct. i'm just very curious about what i could have received an insert for???? i'll write jay and i'm sure he will take care of it but it's driving me nuts trying to figure out what i actually got and what it is supposed to fit
  23. the main thing to remember about formal wear, and why it evolved to simple black and white (well, preferably midnight blue and white. black actually tends to look greenish or gray under artificial light and midnight blue actually looks blacker than black. just difficult to find these days) is that formal occasions are about the women and not the men. gowns, hair, jewelery are all designed to make the woman wearing it stand out. mens efforts to stand out too much (the black on black and the tie less looks and the chains etc) are unseemly and not very gentlemanly just because rappers or pop stars or overpaid primadonna actors do something does not make it right if someone notices or compliments anything you are wearing, before noticing your date or the woman you are standing with, you have done it all very wrong...
  24. there actually are traditional rules for formal wear. and like most things for someone who knows the rules it can be ok to break them formal jackets should never have vents. the origin of vents in mens jackets was so that they would not bunch up when sitting a horse. and you would never wear formal wear on horseback. formal trousers should never be cuffed. cuffing trousers came from rolling them up to keep the mud off in the country. something would not need to do in formal wear. never a belt. suspenders/braces only, or trousers made with a small self fabric belt in the back or side tabs. traditionally you would not carry a wallet in formal attire. that's where the cummerbund came from. always worn with the pleats up. there are one or two pockets in a proper cummerbund, enough space to slip in the opera or theater tickets and some cash. you might be better served by treating yourself to a nice set of studs and cuff links and not wearing a watch. i have a set of art deco studs and real cufflinks in 18k gold and onyx i paid less than $300 for at an auction years ago. if you really want to impress people who know buy a real bow tie. not much more difficult to tie than your shoelaces, and clip on bow ties are an abomination. a real bow tie is something that can be spotted form across the room and will make you stand out more than a watch as someone who knows how to dress properly
