  1. Sometimes they do open them. When they do you usually get an extra tax bill.

S.F. customs has opened a lot of mine. LAX only once. Dallas FW will open and keep them. A lot of dealers won't ship to you if the watch is likely to go through Dallas.

Edit to add: I hope for their sake that they don't sniff them. Some atrocious odors have come out of watch shipments! The worst are from Thailand.

probably LA or SF (final dest is WA)

tax is based on what? what is coming looks like my avatar, so.... 10% of 100K is pretty steep for a rep, haha. Hopefully they don't know what a Valjoux 23 is :-)

  2. So, just had my preliminary chat with my watchmaker after he got the goods.

He said, I've got bad news for you - your dial says Oyster - they never made a newman with this dial. Cue some persuasion and the promise to email some pictures of the genuine article.

I am 100% positive they made oyster PN dial in 626X cases (I bought one of these beauties in 1997 for $7000 believe it or not) here is a pic:

  3. Marty, I forgot to tell you: I have been told when I purchased the watch in 2001, that it has belonged to Jean Claude Killy (watch collector and French alpine ski racer and olympic champion at the winter 1968 olympics in Grenoble, France). So you are wearing a little piece of history too :-)
