  1. Looking good! If you want to get more technically proficient, there's a book on lighting that I can really recommend. I've gotten hooked on the Strobist blog, which details photography using small off-camera flashes through the use of a wireless transmitter or cable. He swears by the book Light: Science and Magic. It makes you think about light differently, helps identify different types of light and reflections and how to find the correct placement of your light within a family of angles to get the best results. A lot of good stuff in there, and a lot to think about with an object as diverse as a watch... such varied surfaces that work differently (leather straps, polished stainless, matte dials, etc) and could be made to really pop if you got the lighting perfect. Ofcourse, there's so much information in there that I still have a hard time putting it into practice when I'm shooting . Here's one of my older ones from when I just built my current light tent:
  2. I've got this idea in my head to have a Phantom style radiomir watch built - ie black lume, black hands, black dial. I saw a custom phantom in a luminor case on the WatchUSeek forum that absolutely blew my mind, but since I already have a few luminor case watches I wanted something else. A black radiomir would definitely fit that bill. But problem is, I need to get my hands on a PVD radiomir case first. I can't seem to find those in the wild, so the next best option is using a replica watch and modifying it. I've used several replica forums to find different PAM292 style replica's but now I'm lost. There's several out there, but I have no indication of the quality of the case. Does it look matte or polished, is the PVD layer thick enough to withstand a few scratches, what is the buildquality of the case, is the sapphire real, etc... Could you guys who have ordered a PAM292 replica so far help me out? I'm not that interested in dial or lume quality, as that would all be switched out anyway. It's the case that needs to be topnotch. These are the reps I've found so far, but I'm open to any other suggestions! http://www.pc-80108.com/pn29201-2007-black...947-p-4476.html http://puretimewatch.com/index.php?product...cture_id=196654 http://puretimewatch.com/index.php?product...cture_id=196663 http://www.etaswiss.net/gallery/categories.php?cat_id=679 http://silix-prime.com/product.asp?id=2007 http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...&hl=pam+292 http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...&hl=pam+292 http://internationalwatchman.com/new08.html
  3. Hi Everyone. I'm Acolyte57 from the Netherlands and I'm not actually not that much into replica's. Without offending anyone, the idea of customizing a replica to the point that it's indistinguishable from a real watch just doesn't hold so much interest for me. I'm too young, so no one would believe me if I had a Rolex or Breitling on my wrist no matter how real it'd look. They'd know it was fake. I am however very much into the watches themselves and have absolutely no qualms about wearing a homage piece that blatantly copies the looks. I just don't need that perfection you guys crave . Recently I've bought a few Marina Militares on eBay and felt that the pieces were lacking. After asking around for tips on modifications I was pointed into the direction of several replica forums, including this one, because people here have the most experience. So far you haven't dissapointed! Read a lot of interesting things already... Just need to get my mind made up on what to try first.
