  1. Na mate, I seem to recall he did make FG ones once. Not for years tho. I drove a gen 427 once. Scariest thing on four wheels! All that power and the worst understeer imagineable. Col
  2. The Cobras made by Shelby are "continuation" caes and are not considered to be reps. Ther'e just moden gens and are considered to be so by motorsport's govening bodies. There are, f cause, many people makeing reps most of whome pay a lience fee to Shelby. The situation is the same for shuch cars as the Bugatti T35 historic GP cars and the Lola T70s ect. However there ARE rep cars the Itialian giverment regularly makes a scene in the press by publicly destroying rep Alfas and Ferraris. The reps on open sale that are not licenced by the origenal makers are just different enough to get away with under the law or are one offs made by their owners or of vehicles where the original maker is no longer arround to complain. My father in law is currently building a rep Lambo with a twin turbo Jag V12 in a propper spacefrome chassis. Can't wait till its finished. My brother in law has just purchesed a rep Ferrarri from the UK and is searching for a moden Ferreri V8 to go in it. That should be fun too. Regards, Col.
  3. Amazing that they still think number two is tru! May they long continue to do so. Number three gave me a smile. Look at the [censored] in the pic! He subscribes to this thery I'm shure. Impressing folk is not a good reason to buy ANYTHING! Col. EDIT: ROFLMAO, chk the adds by google on the right of screen. There almost all for reps! Therefor their haughty little forum is supported by the rep industry! You gotta love irony in that!
  4. There are some stunning examples of the BD sub arround now. Have a looky at eurotimez TT sub. Even the noob TT is quite a piece in the flesh. Their not plate but wrapd gold and it makes a big difference. The blue on the dial of the Euro or the MBK is sooooo deep. Yep, a LL Bean rep! What is the world comming to? I quite like it as a watch but come on, the gen is hardly expensive.
  5. I realy don't think material costs come into it. The execption to this is ETA MVTs which are geting more expensive. A non chrono is prob costing the dealers twenty bucks or so at most since we pay sixty to eighty for one. An A21J? five dollars. Steel just doesn.t enter into it. According to umetal.com the current price of 316 stainless in GZ is 7088.25 USD per ton. That puts the steel cost in a rep at under two dollars. As for printing date wheels ect I think a lot of folk realy don't have an understanding just how cheap it is to have things done in CN. The bigie is tooling but when your paying someone three to five dollars a day (five bucks a day is a VERY good wage in CN) to do the setup even this is not exactly expensive. The machinery costs add up of cause but is absorbed over tens of thousands of reps. Ad in a few bribes for the local officals of cause, once again spread over many reps. Shure, the prices on all these are rising but its a small percentage of the increse we have seen of late. The main cost (to us) is the profit made by the factory and dealers. Of this I have no doubt. Its up to the invidual to decide if he/she thinks its worth what is being asked. Do you object that a Coke at Maccas costs four cents to make? A McBurger about sixty to eighty cents? McFries less than twenty? No, you still buy. Many retail margines are much higher than most imagine. Its just that the Chinese are realising what they can get away with charging. It was bound to happen sooner or later and unfortunatly I can't see things changing any time soon. Regards, Col.
  6. Good point John. Maybe we see reps quoted in Euros one day. The USD shure ain't what she used to be. Mind you, for us here in OZ thats not nesserily a bad thing... Col.
  7. Why is there this thery that it costs lots more to make a good rep than a bad one? Like somone said, the gen is reasembled and sold/added to makers own collection. If sold the loss may be a grand or so , absorbed over several thousand reps. The dealer markup has gone way beone the one to two hundred percent of the gen world in the higher range reps and I think profit is the main reason. Prices will continue to go up untill sales slow and stabilise there. Face it folks, a good rep is going to cost what the market will bear, no more, no less.Thats free enterprise in action whether we like it or not. Do you think the price of a box of breaky cereal bears any resembelence to what it costs to make? No. It is based on what folks will pay. Unfortunatly thats life in a capitalist system and China is catching on fast. Consumer demand regulates prices. Sad but true. Regards, Col.
  8. What he said. AR tends to have good anti foging proprties. Why do you think folk have reading glasses AR'd tho there used mostly inside? Col.
  9. Wounder if he dared to post this at RWI or RG (Its up at RGW!)? Think I'll have a looky. Col.
  10. Actualy the day after a hurricane (or cyclone if you live down here) is usualy a beautyfull day. I also don't like cyclones, spent weeks helping clean up after Larry here last year(I'm in the fire brigade). He was about Katrina strength and flatened a cpl of medium sized towns and many thousand acres of rainforest. The destruction was awe inspireing and chilling at the same time. Got a pic here of a 2x4 driven thru a palm tree. I allways thought that was BS untill I saw it with my own eyes. Regards, Col.
  11. Mate, I'mm not a cat person but feel for your loss. A few years ago I lost my mate of near nineteen years "Number Two"(he was a sh*t of a puppy). I gave him the same type of send off over at the atomicmpc forum and understand what you'r going thru. As long as the pics stay up at PB he will live on here. Puting down a beloved pet is one of the hardest decisions we can make in life. In Two's case it was one tick too many. That damn dog cost me thousands in vet bills over the years and he was worth every last cent. Your english is more than good enough to convey your feelings and we feel for you. The Ad-Dressing Of Cats T. S. Eliot You
  12. Glad all are OK. You know, and I don't wish this on you guys for a minute, one day half of So-Cal is going to dissapear into the Pacific ocean. Either that or an offshore quake is gunna throw a wall of water at you. pity realy I kinda like So-Cal. Col.
  13. An expensive treatment but well worth it. I've never had a watch done but have had several firearms treated as a preventive mesure against rust and staining. Gold PVD? Now THAT sounds interesting! Can we see some pics of the finish? Doesn't have to be a watch. Col.
  14. You and I don't quite see eye to eye on this mate (tho you are turning me) but you are correct. Banning you is hardly the way to handle that. Neither is refusing to answer your quite reasonable question (one quite a few would appear to be asking there from the sounds of it) and only makes the mud thicker. One has to wonder. When boards, regardless of which one, start banning respected members of the comunity for posing a question I think we have a real problem. Why not just supply an answer if there's nothing untoward going on? In deference to the wishes of the mods HERE thats (proberly) the last comment I will make on the subject of RG. I am not a member there (thats a good example of why as I like my free speach too much) so its realy NOMB anyway. Off topic: Do you guys realy only pay 99 cents for 2ltr of Coke? Its 2.50 at the supermarket here, up to five bucks at a servo (gas station)! Sheeesh, I'm a com'n over! Regards, Col.
  15. Actualy Doc, I was refering to the "collector" thing when I said I'd shuit up. Col.
  16. Yeah Andy, I was and my prev comment still stands. Sorta like selling dope and refering to it as "dirt"(or what ever). Bad analogy I know but the best I could come up with at one AM. As much as I would love to discuss this further I don't think it will be apreciated by the mods so I'll shut up now. If a mod/long termer wants PM me on the subject I'd be happy to discuss, just for the sake of the exercise. Col.
  17. Oooookay, fair 'nuf... Tho I can't see who its fool'n. col.
  18. Not much mate, RWG1 is so damn quiet without you arround. Well his Eng proberly beats the hell out of my Chinese! Not that that would be hard. BTW, whats with this "collector" bit? There dealers/resellers or what have you but collector? Me no understand. Col.
  19. I agree that the lack of prices prob has to do with the stuff going on at RWI . If he don't list prices he can't get into trouble with Jandrew. The origanal link was my bad, sorry. Only put it up when a long term member asked who he was. Does this meen we can't link to ebay dealers or to warn others of scam sites? Just asking. Still real slow here so its prob a web issue rather than the site itself. Regards, Col.
  20. Hi ya Fakey! Long time no see. Its takeing three to five minutes to load a page on this side of the pond. Thats if it loads at all. Shame, he looks like he may be a much needed breath of fresh air around the traps. If he means what he says that is. Col.
  21. Sorry to confuse you mate but were debating somthing that for the present is happening on another board. Not shure if your aware of that or not. you can find the main thread strarting HERE with the evidence on THIS page. @pug: I still can not see how Andrew could refute this even if it is untrue. Even a total ar)e hole deserves a fair trial before a first class hanging. A writen policy on dealer behavior is a damn good idea IMO. It still leaves the problem of presenting evidence that is irifutable by any real standered. Emails or PMs especialy from a somewhat new dealer are just to easy to fake. Probly not in this case but still questionable. And in fact I intended to make use of our new friend Hont in the near future but dought I will ever use Andrew regardles of my playing devils advocate on his behalf not beacuse of this but beacuse of the above mentioned tantruns when things go wrong. Josh I will continue to use as long as He continues to do the right thing by me. Prob not as much as I would without the whole cartel thing tho. Regards, Col.
  22. Edit not a dealer on this site as yet, Ken The guy on the other end of the Jandrew debate. Col.
  23. Now they have a real nerve! Fakey? You there? I think an adition to the scam list is in order here. Col.
