  1. Hey Everyone! I've pretty much decided a classic Royal Oak is the last watch i'll ever need! It's perfect for every occasion: formal, casual, on a yacht &c. The only places I can't see it is diving, or in space. I've never done either. So I've narrowed it down to either a 15202 or a 14790. For those that don't know, the 15202 "Jumbo" is a version of the Royal Oak without running seconds, and an extra thin movement & case. I believe the watch clocks in at only 7mm high! It's design is based on my true grail watch, the a-series Royal Oak. Unfortunately, there were only 1000 Stainless Steel A-series watches made. The a-series is pictured bellow. The a-series is the watched that "saved" AP during the quartz crisis. The watch cost 10x more than a new submariner when it was released! The legendary JLC movement also features in Genta's other most famous design, the Patek Nautilus. You can read more here. The 14790 is the 36mm version of Genta's design, with running seconds and a closed caseback. Are either of these models repped? I've had a search of the forums, but 14790 returns like 5 results. 15202/Jumbo is more, but there is a lot of confusion about this model: most posts seem to be a 15300. Honestly, I don't really care about the movement, I just want to see what the watch feels like on the wrist, and hopefully convince myself I don't need/want a gen (a 15202 will set you back around 10k used). Also, it would be good to know the rep warning signs for if/when I buy a gen. Thanks for reading.
  2. saw this Wittnauer, off to the bay of dreams! time for bad pictures. honestly, the heuerville post linked in the first line of the haiku has a much better write up and pictures, so look at that instead of this.
  3. Wow that's surprisingly cheap. Now I just need a guy to work on the case! I will have to try a franken/project watch soon myself.
  4. New (to me) piece arrived today, I'm in love. Its crying out for a vintage tropic though.
  5. Just won one of these bad boys http://heuerville.wordpress.com/2014/05/21/wittnauer-ref-7004a-chronograph/ (early version without Geneve on the dial) I've seen them listed for around £900 or so, but I'm not sure what price they actually sell for. I got mine for 375: will know if I got lucky tomorrow!
  6. Nice project! Vintage jlc is a hole I need to fill in my collection. How much does the dial restoration from those guys run? Been thinking about one for my Heuer, but there is what looks to be a nos one on the bay for around £170.
  7. Hey, I'm looking for a custom leather rally strap for my Heuer: Want it to be vintage light brown, 18mm with small holes. Has anyone had a rally strap built by someone here, and do you have pictures?
  8. Thanks, I think it's a 22 Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
  9. Yup it's a gen. Late 40s early 50s IMO. Beautiful! Definitely on my radar for the next purchase: if only to fill the jlc memovox alarm shaped hole I don't think I'll be able to fill for a while!
  10. I'd be in if this was on premierleague.com
  11. Hi guys, I got my first job out of university, and I will treat myself to a gen. I have limited myself to £2000. Some watches i've considered: Sinn (U1, GSG9, EZM3) Vintage DateJust (Champagne Dial, Leather Band) Omega (2531, Moonwatch) Vintage JLC dress watches I was wondering if you have any other suggestions for watches in this range (used or new). Also, some opinions from people who have bought at real life auctions... I have found a place in my city with watch auctions about three times a month. Looking at the online catalogue (fellows.co.uk), the estimates seem quite low. For example there are moon watches estimated at £800-1200, but I thought the going rate is more like £1800-2000. Are there hidden costs with buying at auction? Or do these places put low estimates to lure people in? Is there a danger I might get a rep sold to me? Thanks for reading.
