I just got my first Molnija 3601 from ebay.
Simply, it is too shiny and looks brand new.
What is the process of the aging of the movement?
I did not expect this situation.
Somehow it is too shiny and keeps bugging me.
think of it as an NOS movement then you have nothing to worry about.
vintage pam doesn't necessarily have to look "vintage"; some gen ones are very well preserved and still look quite new.
also, your 3601 is probably already 40-50 years old, and still looks brand new. i.e. a legit vintage movement can look mint.

will you be engraving these CGs?

You must have looked like a tourist to the seller.
To be honest, a local can buy this watch for USD50 max. Even at USD50, the sellers make a decent profit.

this is a very exciting project!

oh it's a stunning watch no doubt about it! it is so elegant even with a chronograph!
but as b16a2 mentioned, the movement is less stunning but treatable.
go for it!
It's treatable but you'll have a hard time finding someone who's willing to do the mod for you.
I have this watch. It's stunning, but the blue colour is off. The genuine one's blue is a much darker blue.

I'm with you BT!!!
this is a genuine right?
i think i can spot the difference with this watch now, without side-by-side comparsion

please send this watch to my address. thanks.

I'll admit I'm a complete noob here; I've never had any of my watches serviced, as most of them are quite cheap.
Does having a movement "serviced" mean complete disassembly of the watch and movement, cleaning the parts, oiling, and reassembly? If so, there's a very high chance for the watchmaker to damage the watch/dial/hands too, esp. with the rep hands being so fragile and the watchmaker may not have experience working on rep watches.
My other thought is, if a watchmaker is willing to service our rep with 7750 sec@6, it might be the best time to have the graphite applied? since the hardest part in this whole procedure doesn't lie in applying the graphite but in removing the dial and hands without damaging them.

Hey CC, how's the quality of that gator strap? Is it genuine gator? I ask this because there's been discussion either on here or on repgeek where some members say adamantly that their gator straps are simply embossed calf skin. From your photos it looks like real gator. From the ones shown on the watchboy's website, they look more like calf with a gator pattern. Thanks!

Thanks for the tips CC.
I don't think anyone on this forum is offering this graphite treatment as a service to public now.
Francisco has confirmed that he's no longer offering this. oh no!
-
I don't think that is the consensus at all...
You should check with freddy333. He invented the graphite treatment, and I think that he's been keeping a close ear to the ground regarding the success rate.
correct me if I'm wrong; i think francisco/faparisi has confirmed that the main problem with this movement setup comes from one or more of the transfer gears coming off the plate upon which they sit? no?

and for an alarm movement?
no thanks.
just look harder and you may still find one selling for a reasonable price.
even in HK I've seen a non-alarm 240 stem-wound movement in an almost nos condition selling for just $1000; they are out there.
