  1. Well it is a great rep, maybe not quite gen standards but really great for the price, Sizing PO bracelets has broken many a man and tools! have a good search before you try it your self if you have the tools and if you go to a small independent watch smith just make sure he know what he is doing before he tries as well.

    Welcome to the sickness

I potted the underneath of my Pin Remover with epoxy resin, it really does make it a lot stronger & can now cope with any pins on a planet Ocean bracelet.

  2. The warranty of an Omega watch goes with the watch. The Omega warranty is usually 2 years except for the co-axial movement which is 3. The co-axial movement is used in very few Speedmaster Professionals. The only one I can think of is the very limited (1957 pieces) of the 50th Anniv. Speedmaster Professional.

    Good luck

    Thanks Mate.

I picked up my Original speedmaster professional yesterday.

Its only 11 days old. I've got all the reciepts from Goldsmith, it was originally purchased on 08-09-2009.

    I got it for

  3. But "superglue" is a generic consumer term that's often misused as a byword for "strong", rather than for its composition.

Lazoon - you say you've spilled "loctite", which suggests to me threadlocker adhesive (the only glue you'd be messing around with near an open watch dial I hope), which AFAIK isn't cyanoacrylate-based. If it's blue/semi-perm threadlocker, then heat will break the molecular bond and perhaps allow you to remove from the dial. About your only hope.

No such luck, this is loctite 638 assy lock, its green in colour, I use it for all sorts of things, it secures things for good. I just got a bit careless & didnt set a couple of specks on the dial.

Its better than loctite as it gives you more time to fit and adjust. I am aware of the vapour that these chemicals give off.

It was only in the bright sunlight that I noticed the specks, Intially I just thought the were specks of dirt & tried to carefully clean them off with mr sheen, unfortunately the very thin film of what I believe is some sort of laquer started to show signs of lifting off the face.

Thats when I stopped & got really [censored] off.

I actually managed to get fit the domed lens & put it all together, it was only when I was using the chrono that the second hand came adrift which was the start of my nightmare.

if any of you guys do hear of a Dial for sale, I would really appreciate it if you could let me know.

    Thanks guys.

  4. I spilt a drop of loctite on my Speedmaster watch face today & have completely ruined it.

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement

It was a Ruby Speedmaster, The Ruby version of the Speedmaster came top in a Repgeek review for accuracy.

I know Ruby won't be of any help as she seems to be winding down her watch sales.

Any advise from any technical guys out there would be welcome?

  5. BTW when you say chrome ring i am a bit confuzed as the gen has a mat black tention ring

When I was looking for a suitable hi domed crystal on Cousin's web site I came across

the "STERNKREUZ XAC 342.594" it had in brackets beside the title: "(Speedmaster 5077)".

I assumed that this was a generic copy of the speedmaster crystal.

When fitted the new crystals chrome ring (maybe its polished stainless steel) blends in really well with the stainless steel watch body.

  6. This weekend I removed the flat crystal from my hand wind Speedmaster and polished the inside blue hue AR off.

Came out perfect but before I install it, I thought and check if I can find a domed glass or plexi crystal instead.

The seize appears to be 33.5mm

Any ideas where to get one?

Has anyone changed the crystal on their rep moon watch from a flat one to a domed one?

    Thanks!

I have cut & pasted my post which I added to this Forum yesterday.

It will tell you what lens I used to hide the unsightly step you see when trying to fit a high domed lens & how to reduce the outside diameter of the lens so as to allow the Tachymetre to be refitted.

    regards

    Lazoon.

ps I hope to put some photos of my modified Speedmaster this weekend.

HOW I FITTED THE HIGH DOMED "STERNKREUZ XAC 342.594" CRYSTAL:-

The "Sternkreuz XAC 342.594" comes complete with the Metal Chrome Strip fitted inside it, this cures the problem of having the unsightly step which you get if you fit the STERNKREUZ hW 33.6 High Dome Crystal.

What you will need to do before you fit the XAC 342.594 in place is to carefully remove the 'Tachymetre Bezel' (this will be used as a size gauge later). You will then need to turn down the outside diameter of the 'XAC 342.594' until you can place it on a flat surface & then drop the 'Tachymetre Bezel' over it so it sits nicely on the same surface as the 'XAC 342.594' is sitting on.

If you then drop the modified 'XAC 342.594' into the body of your Speedmaster, then place the 'Tachymetre Bezel' back into its correct seating, you will then see that you have a Speedmaster with a really nice looking domed lens, but without that horrible step.

I bonded my modified crystal in place using Super Glue (I tried using G-S hypo cement But it was not very successful), I bonded the 'Tachymetre Bezel'in place using evo-stick.

I didn't have any special tools to turn down the 'XAC 342.594' crystal.

This is how I turned down my 'XAC 342.594' crystal which I purchased from "Cousins" web site for about

  7. Before I explain how I fitted a "STERNKREUZ XAC 342.594" (Omega-Speedmaster 5077) Crystal complete with the correct Chrome metal insert (which hides the machined step).

Can anyone with an orignal Speedmaster Moon watch please answer this question:

Is the Large chrono Second Hand on an THE ORIGINAL Speedmaster Moon Watch straight or curved?

  8. Best option is to pop out the old one and see if the domed ones fit. You can get a simple crystal press to try it out with. Just be careful with the display back.

I read somewhere that the plastic crystal will need to have an interference fit when fitted into the counterbore of the watch body.

I have a number of various domed plastic crystals going up in 0.5mm diameter increments, I'm hoping that one of these will have a snug fit.

I intend to remove the movement so as to give me free access from both sides.

I'm currently looking on e-bay for a crystal remover. this will allow me to compress & reduce the overall diameter of the

plastic crystal by 'a knats [censored]' & hopefully allow me to ease it into position.

One of my main fears is accidentally damaging the bezel or getting glue on it.

Do you know of a good quality crystal retaining glue (clear) that would help keep the replacement crystal in position?

    regards.

  9. Does anyone here know if it is possible to remove the saphire crystal from a (Ruby) Speedmaster moonie

& replace it with a plastic domed crystal.

I've got several plastic domed crystals which match the diameter of the existing Speedmaster saphire crystal. I was hoping to

push out the saphire & press fit & bond the plastic domed crystal (1.1mm thick) in its place.

    Any advice ?

That mod makes it look so much better.

I currently have a saphire crystal & have been hoping to find someone who had fitted a plastic domed crystal.

Can you tell me where you got your crystal from?

I would appreciate any advice you have regarding this fantastic mod.

    kind regards
