  1. Correct...this is a Frakenmovement...an ETA baseplate and god knows what stacked onto it. Lots of mental masturbation going on here. I agree with the bard that the 2 threads have served their primary purpose and that we will be very attentive to subsequent advertising claims and will ask questions first. To the naieve buyer out there who isn't privy to our discussions, I wish we could do more but the exaggerations of Andrew and Josh are the least of their potential problems as misinformed buyers in the replica wilderness.
  2. Andrew might have just posted the best response to all of this. A gorgeous Cartier Santos with a genuine, decorated ETA 7753,...lots of pictures of the inside...<$700 selling price.....Quite a watch. "Wormy" explainations might not always fly but offer us candy........?????????!!!!!!!!!
  3. Your bigger problem will be pulling off wearing a replica of a watch that sells for six figures. Stunning, yes....believeable....not when you drive up in your Ford! There's a new one of these on the bay for $105,000
  4. Wow, there's hope!!!! Maybe it's just me, but honesty such as this goes SO far in earning my respect and trust. I have bought my last three cars from the same salesman at the same dealership because my first buying experience with him was refreshingly above board, no games, no "I've got to walk away from this negotiation at least 3 times to get a decent offer, 5 times to get a good offer, and a dozen times to get the best offer" [censored], that he got my business for a lifetime. I know I can walk in there, state what I'm looking for and have it presented to me honestly. Does he make a profit...of course...might I save myself another $300 by playing hardball for another month, ...maybe but I'll tell you one thing. The fact that I can walk in there and KNOW that step one is not going to be bending over and being offered the worst rip off deal under pressure that "these babys are going fast...take it or leave it" takes 98% of the worry off my mind. If you'll be honest with us, we will come!!!
  5. Good Lord, steam rooms, toasters...you guys are worse than John Cameron Swayze and the Timex torture tests.
  6. Well said. All along, I have stated that, while the dealers here have earned good reputations for honesty and customer service, any sales endeavour is going to be subject to exaggeration. But there are no truth in advertising laws here, just word of mouth and self policing. I think Josh and Andrew know they crossed a line, a line that has been getting pushed, a little swiss eta lie here, a little sapphire lie there, closer and closer to something we would not tolerate. Pugwash had some major brass balls to push back. It's not a topic I would have started. I would have been afraid of offending the establishment. I've enthusiastically ridden in his slipstream during this discussion and I think we owe him a major thank you for shining the spotlight. I guess the reputational cost/reward of admitting "yeah, we went too far in "Switzerlandizing" a wholly Asian replica" doesn't make sense to them. I'm actually much more interested in how this is going to affect future advertising. When the next "2892 Whatever" comes out, you can be sure it will be brutally scrutinized.
  7. ...and I never care for "We apologise....we never meant to...." Yes you did. You apologise for stepping on someone's foot in the subway, not for intentional deception....and if there was no intended deception, you have nothing to apologise for. Like Rhett Butler said to Scarlett O'hara, "If you had it to do over again, you'd do no different. You're like the theif who's not the least bit sorry he stole but he's terribly, terribly sorry he's going to jail."
  8. ...speaking as someone who keeps his watches under a glass dome in a climate controlled room......ARUGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! Oh well, glad your toy survived
  9. Sure does. Blanket disclaimer. We can send you anything we want. The pictures are meaningless.
  10. On the whole, I'm happy and a bit surprised we heard anything. I thought, as the original thread made its' way to page 2 that these guys would wait out the storm and continue business as usual. There's some 'wormyness" in the explaination (like "we said superlume...not superluminova.....ah ...gotcha...) but on the whole, it's a positive response. I just wish, and I know this is a pipe dream, people would own up to lies and errors of comission with an honest disclosure. I'd have NO problem with their post if they said "....As norms of advertising go in the rep business, we are proud to be leaders in being forthright and honest with the buying public. However, the realities of economic pressures and competition sometimes clouds even our judgement when choosing wording and descriptive terms for products that we are excited about selling. We agree with the majority opinion that our zeal caused us to use descriptions that were misleading......etc" Like I said, pipe dream.
  11. Pugs, you're my hero and inspiration!!! One big difference though. It's evening in France, you're home presumeably with a glass of wine enjoying leisure time with your passion. I'm feeling just a bit guilty about the ever lengthening list of ignored emails in my Outlook file, several proofreads that are weeks overdue and three pages I haven't bothered to answer today because "the resident fellow is on the antibiotic approval service, not me. I'm busy!!!!!" Ahhh...screw it 2000 posts here I come!
  12. Oh man...anyone care to smash that poorly disguised lob!!!
  13. Oh God...you put a nickel in the Honneymooners Nickelodeon....... "...I wouldn't whoo-whoo you for anything. Never again will I whoo-whoo you. Your'e a disgrace to that uniform and to the Racoon Lodge.......I should whoo-whoo you........ (Long, pensive pause from Ralph) Hey Norton..... Yeah Ralph Whoo-Whoo Brother racoon!!!
  14. Of course. Shinny to brushed is easy. You already did the hard one, brushed to shinny. Just take some 000 or 0000 steel wool and stroke the bracelet in one direction until the desired amount of satinizing is achieved. Be careful with this Tag bracelet though. It is VERY soft metal and that probably accounts for the amount of metal you took off in the original polishing and how easy it was to "accidently" raise a high polish. And a word of advice.....go easy bro. No need to clean your toys to death. Get a polishing cloth from your jeweler and put the power washer away!!!
  15. What's the old Groucho Marx line....wouldn't want to belong to any club that would have me as a member...... I better watch my ass here at work. Over a thousand posts on a website might ruffle a few feathers.
  16. ...I'd like to thank the Academy...and all the little people who helped me on my way.... In all honesty...didn't notice. thanks eddhead!!!! Glad I hit that high note Alice! Bang......Zoom!!!!!!!
  17. I've had terrific luck with my replicas but i also treat them like newly hatched chicks so...I'm not very hard on them. I do have an upper limit of $300 for a replica watch. Anything over that just isn't worth the risk. There are far too many excellent "entry level grade" Swiss watches from companies that actually have a factory in Switzerland and that offer a real warranty in the $400 to $1000 range that I would never consider paying that much for a replica. I'd rather wear a 1K Hamilton Jazzmaster Chrono than a fake $800+ Swiss 7750 Navitimer from the dark abyss.
  18. Well, at least body parts and straps/bracelets are expanding and contracting in the same directions. Lunchtime check...4 holes and comfortable...low sodium diet!
  19. That thread from EL a few months ago...you know the one...what's the significance of the girl (NOT) in my avitar and Neils intimate knowlege of the local population in SE Asia...all had a profound effect on me. Oh yeah...the watch on the girl's wrist. haven't a clue!
  20. Hey....don't knock it 'till you've tried it. I could give some of Neil's "ladyboys" a run for their money. Good God,...what a disgusting image...a 220lb 6'1" hairy as all hell Italian in pink pumps. Pass the air sick bag please
  21. Me neither...but I'm just a little old. I don't get the "skanky girls are hot" thing at all. I notched my gun in the '80s. Give me big hair, lots of make-up and 5 inch pink pumps any time!!!
  22. About $3500 USD? Is that correct? My thoughts on this are well known but Seiko doesn't get the credit it deserves...at least not from the collector community and the editors of the trades. They have driven technology for 40 years. You want a 21+ jewel in house movement in an watch that wont need servicing for 10 years and can be adjusted to run within COSC specs....get a Rolex 3135 or a Seiko 5. Price difference...$100 vs $4000.
  23. We had an unusually warm December in the Northeast US and I was in my jeweler's store on a 74 degree day with high humidity and she told me she couldn't size rings for anyone that day because the temperature was so warm, compared to the day before, that everyone was swollen and ring sizes that day were meaningless. My wrists and fingers are like barometers and thermometers. I just have no concept of the "soft leather strap". Tight is tight to me. I just took off my Bentley and I have a deep impression in my wrist...but one hole looser and the watch is too loose.
  24. My preference for comfort is a bracelet because I can wear it loosely without it looking strange. I also love the classy dress elegance of a fine croc strap but they always present me with a problem. My wrist always seems to fall between the punched holes, one being too tight and the other being too loose. I think a loose strap looks silly but I dislike a strap cutting into my wrist. To further complicate the problem, heat and how much salt last night's Chinese food had in it seems to change the equation as well but never into a perfect fit. Today I have on my GT with a genuine Breitling strap to 4 holes and it's cutting a bit into my skin, but three holes and this giant watch is flopping around. When it was on the speed bracelet, loose looked cool. OCD.....maybe. Do you strap fans prefer them tight or loose and has anyone else experienced the same fitting problem?????
