  1. So adjusted to 5 positions doesn't literally mean adjusted IN 5 positions but rather adjustable to accuracy in all 5 positions with one regulation adjustment. Adjusted to 5 positions is a statement of movement adjustability and quality rather than a literal statement of how it was adjusted????? So if I have a watch that runs +-4 sec/day dial up but runs +20 sec/day crown up, trying to adjust it further is in vain? The watch is not of high enough quality to run accurately in multiple orientations???
  2. So adjusting to 5 positions and temperature means regulating in one position and hoping for the best in the other 4?
  3. Gorgeous movement....and the co-axial movement....as close to quartz as a mechanical is going to get. Let's see our Asian friends at Seagul copy a Co- Axial escapement! That movement I'd buy in a heartbeat.
  4. I've gone through the process of adjusting and regulating several of my watches. It's a bit tedious. I usually leave the adjusted watch dial up overnight to evaluate the preciseness of the latest micro-move of the regulator as I zero in on 2-3 sec/day which I consider to be as close as I'm going to get...but I never repeat this process evaluating the running of the watch in the other 4 positions. If I found the perfectly adjusted watch for dial up running runs 10 seconds fast crown up, would I adjust it further and wouldn't zeroing in on crown up perfect running screw up my previously perfect adjustment for dial up running???? How do you guys do this?
  5. Did I mention my wife is a Psychiatrist??????? I think my post is heavily weighted with personal experience!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. Well, if that's the case, my guess is that we'll see it if the demand for it is there. If the rep buying community is perfectly happy with the present mutant, then we wont. I don't know what effect a 7753 copy would have on Breitling Navitimer lovers et al. Having an accurately deep set date wheel will probably be warmly welcomed....but what's the cost/reward for the manufacturers????? Will they recoup design/manufacturing costs with increased sales???? Is it an investment/risk this group is prone to take? We'll see.
  7. For God's sake, don't buy her a replica for Valentines day. Do you have any idea what kind of message that sends a woman....giving her a fake...a replica...as a token of your love. A birthday, or just as a gift on any day,....maybe...but not for Valentines Day. You're setting yourself up for big trouble down the line...especially if it fails a month from now. If you want to give her a watch and don't want to bust the budget,...consider vintage GENUINE time pieces on ebay. I bought my wife a 10 year old solid gold Baume and Mercier for less than the price for the weight of the gold. If she's into Art Deco at all, there are some unbelieveable pieces from the '20s and 30's that look like real jewelry and that still run well if serviced. Please......don't buy her a fake for a gift that's supposed to symbolize your love for her. Major mistake.
  8. Correct...I was asking how many manipulations do our Asian friends do to the base Asian 7750 to get it to appear to operate like a 7753? My guess is that if it's less than 14, ....that's probably why they modify instead of building a more complex caliber.
  9. How many parts does it take to modify a 7750 to look and perform like a 7753?
  10. I rotate about 20 replicas and gens so most of my watches look very new. I also wear them like I'm wearing fine china (no pun intended!!!). At present, 8 replicas of varying brands, a genuine Omega SMP Chrono Diver, genuine Hamilton Dodson, genuine Hamilton Jazzmaster Chrono (7753), genuine Raymond Weil Don Giovanni, genuine Tissot PRS 200 Diver Chrono, 2 automatic Seiko's, a couple of Bulova Marine Stars, a few Casio G-Shock watches and a Timex Ironman or two. When I'm cutting the grass, working on the car, laying brick...etc...usually a Timex or no watch at all. I see them as jewelry and treat them accordingly.
  11. Does anyone know why the 7753 is so much rarer and so much more expensive than the 7750? A basic Hamilton, Tissot, or Accutron 7750 chrono costs about $600 but a 7753 powered Hamilton Jazzmaster Chrono is tough to find and runs about 1K. An Oris 7753 Chrono runs about $1500. Obviously ETA did not do what the Chinese do to move the minute totalizer. Is it an entirely new caliber unrelated to the 7750? If it is, perhaps this explains why the Chinese have not copied it. Throwing a few gears onto a 7750 and getting the same result probably makes better economic sense for them.
  12. Wow...this thread is sending more than just a few ripples through the pond. GOOD!!! I will continue to buy replica watches...ESPECIALLY if the dealers give me the straight scoop on their products. There's plenty of "Swiss Enough" genuine ETAs in replica watches coming out of China to attract and satisfy the "I want Swiss for a song" crowd and plenty of great looking very close replicas with servicable Asian movements to satisfy the "I want a high end chrono for less than $300" crowd. There's no need for what seems to be a creeping trend toward hyperbole. Just tell us what we are buying and we will continue to buy it. Personally, I have directed at least 10 friends and collectors to one of the dealers here based on customer service and honesty in a business that exists in the shadows. I can't account for how many each of them have directed to the same site but I can say that enhanced reputation here certainly means ongoing business for the accepted dealers...but not if they are going to screw around with things like the word games discussed at length in this thread. No more references from me until this gets cleaned up. The last few posts sound a little panicked with finger pointing abounding.
  13. Easy....4000 people joining between March and when you joined!!! Great post. I love RWG toooooooo!
  14. Great story. Hope it wears on him well. I had my Dad's 1970 GP Gyromatic restored last year. He wore it every day for 35 years with no service, a remarkable testament to the robustness and quality of this 39 jewel watch. It's a chronometer again and looks brand new. I love amazing that generation with the things that are available today. A dial restoration, movement service and regulation only set me back $350 and the watch looks as good as it did on day one. He was floored but I'll tell you a secret. If he knew the restoration cost that much....he'd chew my ass off. I think the watch only cost a couple of hundred dollars new and that kind of expenditure chafes his depression era sensibilities.
  15. Well, I'm not a watch repair person (but I play one on TV!). I'd let Ziggy handle this one. It sounds like a mainspring/power problem rather than a transference problem.
  16. Power reserve fully wound should be 56 hours. Something is wrong. Are you winding it fully until you encounter resistance that makes you stop? Unless you are King Kong, you can wind these movements until you encounter the "I can't wind this anymore" resistance.
  17. Anyone who thought they were getting an ETA 2892, an iconic movement forund in some of the finest watches and several steps up in quality of manufacture from its cheaper cousins, the 2824 and 2836, in these watches were seriously mislead. I was ready to pull the trigger on the Omega AT several months ago via the same advertising and the same pull of getting an (OMG OMG OMG) 2892 for a terrific price before someone wiser here set me straight on the 2892 scoop. Other reasonably fluent watch buyers might be seduced by a feeling of security buying from a sanctioned (almost) dealer here along with the seduction and enthusiasm of getting this movement.
  18. This is a standard modified 7750 geared up to perform like a 7753. This arrangement employs several gears to move the chrono minute hand from 12 oclock to 3 oclock. This usually does not result in additional reliability issues as the chrono minute only operates in chrono mode and then only once a minute. Moving the running second dial from 9 to 6 is a much bigger deal and the gearing needed to modify either the Asian or Swiss 7750 to operate and look like the latest generation of Daytonas has created almost insurmountable problems well documented on this site. A large number of these movements arrive DOA. Oiling the Asian 7750 usually creates too much load for the heavily modified version to handle so many of them are assembled dry. The only issue moving the minute totalizer creates is a more deeply set date wheel due to the top plate gearing.
  19. My jeweler had the not so pleasant experience of telling 23 people in 2006 who brought their Rolexs in for insurance apprasals that they had been sold replicas. I feel sorry for each and every one of them. Not everyone is a skeptic and cynical. Some people actually trust others and can't believe someone would be capible of outright deception. As one of the eyes of the replica community, I feel great about the seasoned members of this board looking out for scams. We collect replicas for a lot of reasons but not to make fools out of others and certainly to never pass off a replica as a genuine for profit. Keep up the good work.
  20. So I guess the consensus is that as long as a dealer has the prefix Asian *****, we're going to take that to mean "Buyer beware...all bets are off"????? Does this mean the decorated movements in Submariners are going to be called "Asian Rolex 3135 Movements" before long? I suppose Trusty's concession to the pressure of this thread is a big step in the right direction but still....Asian ETA 2892??????? And still no pictures of this very cheap looking movement.
  21. So judging from the pics in this thread about the Gold FM, the movement is the 2892 "Frankenmovement" ID'd by Ziggy earlier in this thread...a genuine ETA baseplate with an Asian balance and blued screws and possibly more.
  22. So I assume from this post that the Admin is in communication with the dealers conspicuiously absent from this discussion about this topic and that a resolution is being talked about?
