  1. OK, this is crazy. I had a rep LV ordered in this configuration from Eddie Lee. In '04. I lived with the watch in that option for a few years, realized I wanted the Lunette Verte version so I ordered one. After a few more years I learned a little more about watches and felt the black insert LV was a 'corruption'. I upgraded both to Watchmaterial.com inserts, both Lunette Verte. I hadn't thought much about the black insert version I had for ages. Then JoJo started this thread;LV Lovers Unite! and I joined in with; I saw 'USMC8404' 's post here yesterday and thought; hmmmm, that's a coincidence. You don't hear of many people looking for that configuration nowadays. Years ago sure, folk liked the maxi-dial and fat hands but it took a while for people to get accustomed to the green bezel on a Sub. It was considered a little too garish for the watch James Bond put on the map. Anyhoo, I gave my wife one of those digital picture frames. She has been on me since Mother's Day to drag out ancient back-up discs and fill the frame. Tonight I got around to it. Popped in a disc from '05 and this is the first image in the list; OK, I know. This is one rung up the ladder of an 'emoticon post', but it's obvious. I'm procrastinating. I really, really, really don't want to spend the evening resizing and uploading family shots onto that frame. I really don't.
  2. This has been known, but has never been put so succinctly. Does anyone remember member 'Base' from the old RWG? He once posted the 'ultimate' replica must have list. I bought every Rolex he mentioned there. For one fleeting month or two I had "the best of the best". Now? It is with great humility that I dare post any of those watches in a wrist thread here.
  3. Yeah, something is fishy. He posted no text. Is just letting it hang out there. Maybe a dig at that crappy Steinhart Sub homage. Maybe trying to teach his flock a lesson on; "Be careful out there, you never know who will be passing off reps as gen." Are there discussions like that over there? To the uninitiated, and in the minds of a lot of genuine fans, replicas all tick like quartz, have chromed plastic cases and plastic crystals. Perhaps to them, this is a passable and accurate replica. Or, seeing some of the other watches in that thread, aside the GMT, PO, and the Breit, they are geeks. I'd call him out, but in a discreet manner; "Hey, Randy, where did you source that Sub?" I'm half tempted to register only for that reason.
  4. I will live in the shadow of the; "....shoulda, woulda, coulda....' of this watch. I bought almost all my watches exclusively from Eddie until he bowed out. I always wanted this rep version but figured there was always time and concentrated too much on Rolex then. Oh well, I've followed this piece through it's different hands of ownership, so to you too Red; "Nice watch!"
  5. I concur. As a fan of 'Pugwash' 's acumen, of being both the object and casual observer thereof, his remarks here are benign. There is usually no 'having to read into' to find the disdain. One tell is; the passage will usually end in a simple term, one word sentence; Nice watch 'condemore'. Love the dial. Soon, there will be a PO V5 grade Speedmaster line. It's the next big thing. You read it here first. <edit> To get the solid caseback? Which I have to say is not bad here, the font a little too thick but, whatever. I wonder if this caseback would fit the Seagull versions. If it does, then why on God's green don't they stop issuing Moonies with see through casebacks? I HATE THAT! Almost as much as Moonies with sapphire glass. I HATE THAT!
  6. This is over the top. Don'tcha' think? To realize this statement as 'true' or close to 'truth', you would have to hold up 'jmb' 's watch, across the room from, say, By-Tor and ask; "What is this trying to be?" To prove your theorem, he would have to answer; "Hell if I know, ummmmm, a new Invicta?" But he wouldn't, he would more than likely say; "It's trying to be a GMT Master II, but falling way short on detail." Or similar. The watch has flaw, but is on-line for it's price I would imagine and certainly well endowed for the intent of it's future purpose. Have at it 'jmb'. A good place to start would indeed be with 'By-Tor'. Search his reviews with regard. There you will suss out what your watch's serious drawbacks are. From there you could certainly bring this piece along to overcome it's flaws, but that would more than likely cost you 2X the original purchase price. Money that could be put towards a better replica than upgrades here. But, aside it being a replica, it is indeed a 'watch'. There are many, many operations and mad experiments you could undertake; remove the case back and eye ball the movement in 'working order', pull out the stem and observe the 'keyless works' as you manipulate the crown/stem in it's three positions, remove the stem, uncase a movement, remove the hands/dial, separate the bezel/insert, tinker with the rate, and yes, experiment modifying the case. All basics to 'kitchen table' watch smithing. Have fun.
  7. I know! It was crazy. It was like cult zeitgeist. It started to creep me out. Noobs would register and start topics like; "Panerai, I don't get it (help a newb understand)......" Then a three page mind bend as you described, and the next thing you know the noob had bought five in six months and was waiting on a vintage California dial and swan neck regulator. It was like Invasion of the Body Snatchers, but instead of falling alseep to be cloned, you just had to wear a PAM for ten minutes. All free will gone. Poof. Just like that. Stack up those pods like chord wood. But sure, yeah, give me a gen 187 on rubber? I'd be all over that.
  8. Robbie? Words can't express. So I will demure and lean on the outreach here in this thread, and let those who know you best say it for me. If you have people in the non-virtual that feel as these folk do here? Then hell, you win. You won it. You won. You know, some say laughter is the best medicine. When you're healthy that seems to make sense. When your down it doesn't. At least it doesn't me. Or maybe it does? Up for a try? What if I were to say I knew of a man who may be able to help you? Reviewing your condition inasmuch as you have shared here, I believe he has taken on worse. Far worse. Weekly, Sunday evenings, 10:00 EST with a stellar success rate. I give you: Dr. Gregory House, M.D. Anything? Hang tough, you have to rally. The DOW will be over 20K before another decade is up. That's a purdy good horizon. We'll all see that together. You and us.
  9. Why didn't you say so in the first place Luth?! OK, in that case I will, for the sake of debate, reverse my position. OK, here I go, ahem.............. Pffffffffffft! I'm not going to sit here and [censored] for tat Russian v American technological break through. The only thing new in this world is; the history you obviously skipped over in school Demsey. Hmmmmm, case in point; Korea 1950. Which came first? The MiG-15 or the F-86? If memory serves I believe the newly commissioned US Air Force were getting their asses handed to them by the world's premier swept wing sub-sonic attack fighter. The MiG-15. Russian made I might add. From the ground up, while US aeronautical engineers were still screwing on airfoils like broomsticks at 90 degree angles. The American solution? Well, the F-86. Put a Red Star on an F-86 and it would look at home flying over Zhukovsky. Are we sitting comfortably then? Let's watch: Someday we can discuss; Technology. It's one thing to have it. It's another to be able to use it. Splash one MiG Good to see you Luth. You're one I missed from 1.1
  10. 'Kit Replicas', like 'Kit Cars'. There's a mustard seed there. But, if the cases were readily available, then another BK Garage would open up. Fine. Love it. But, that would mean another $500+ replica chronometer. No can use.
  11. This debuted in a wrist thread, but I've used it in other threads that were apropos. I'm pretty sick of the pic actually. I've used it too much. But, I received one very gracious email from a member who said he thought it a great wrist shot. That was nice, but took me by surprise. I only think it is; 'Meh. Not bad. I guess'........................I think here, on a watch forum, the subject matter just tops the bill to the photography.
  12. Too much fun! The Lennon character looks great! I take my daughters to see "Rain" whenever they tour through FL. Musically, technically, they are superb. Unfortunately McCartney is right handed! But, their version of I Am The Walrus will make the hairs on your arms stand up. Sent you the link request Freddy.......
  13. True! And they also reverse engineered the TU-4 from a B-29. All with calipers, slide rules and stolen intelligence! Impressive! I'm not above thread crapping Luth, but I certainly won't debate the finer points of Russian cutting edge technological advancement. I mean: The 'Buran'. Look familiar? You want to prove your bravery in no uncertain terms? Join the Russian Nuclear Sub Fleet.
  14. The seven dirty words you cannot say on television; [censored] [censored] [censored] [censored] Cocksucker [censored] [censored] But on RWG, if you pay, you can play. I often censor myself. Then turn right around and drag my ass to court for stomping on my civil liberty. Aside my own pay out for court costs and lawyer's fees, with pro bono help from the ACLU, I'm actually wearing down that oppressive bastard 'Demsey' through legal attrition. He'll pay, oh yeah, one way or another, that [censored] will pay! Christ! The [censored] did it again! OK. Fine. See you at the arraignment you oppressive [censored]. D'OH!!
  15. Yes indeed Earth, I realize this is all hypothetical brain storming at this point, but, a lot really would depend on the make and model of the watch considered. It seems the gist is gravitating, naturally, to the Rolex Submariner? The "Who has the best......?" watch. Even if a true 1:1 could be achieved, the cost of Rolex parts would turn affordable reps into expensive Frankens. On the other hand, if say an Omega watch were considered, then yes, it may be more cost effective to source some genuine of aftermarket pieces already developed, than to bring them along from the ground up, reverse engineered by the rep factories. Certainly affordable replicas are appreciated, but if they would have to be further modded, at premium costs, to suit the afficianado? What's the point? For what it's worth, and I know this is getting ahead of the thinking here, but a 1:1 Speedmaster case set? A 1:1 Moon Watch with genuine accoutrement? I'd be all in. So would quite a few others I would say. ps Welcome to the site! Any friend of 'offshore' 's.......................
  16. I don't usually visit the Breitling section (afraid 'Dave123' might be in here) but when I saw this thread title on the main page I couldn't wait! Fantastic!
  17. As far as Panerai go, the 024 is one of the nicest. Fer shur. Looks great on hide, but have you thought of rubber? Never could see a dive watch on natural hide. Congrats!
  18. Barring this, or even factoring it in: This: Seems very reasonable if this: Is a realistic, projected net? Shoot, every dealer here must each eat 2K a week in rip offs, returns and parts grata to valued customers alone. Calipers? Good lord that is impressive. I only thought the Russians still engineered like that.
  19. Somehow this chain: and this comment: Spells out doom, like Nostradamus spelled out, umm, d-o-o-m. Then again, if 'offshore' were at the helm, well, OK then. I don't believe he has a penchant for Acura and he spent his airfare to China, not Serbia. So, we have that going for us. Which is nice.
  20. Like white duck pants and loafers sans socks, this watch should only be worn between Memorial Day and Labor Day. For anyone at a loss, this would be the look. Please notice correct accessories; Nice watch. I like the clasp and the rehaut detail. Thanks for the contribution!
  21. You should have been at my dinner table growing up. At any given meal, 9-10 Scots looking for the weak chink in the other guys' armour. Case in point; 'TTK' is a Scot. Enough said. Every poke I made at Clive, others, was conjured from that experience. It's how I do 'family' and it's gotten me in hot water on more than one occaision on RWG I can assure you. Clive was a special case, me being the first generation 'Merican card carrying Anglophile I appreciated the man and his culture. He, being a charter member of the 'Brompton Yank Bashers Esq.' and long studied curmudgeon found it frustrating that every attempt he made to get my goad for being Amerikkkan only made me more fond of him. I understood him, he understood me all too well for his liking. That part screwed with his head the most. Loved it. But anyway, yeah, that was a great post Doc. And a few pages back I sat here nodding at the computer screen reading Jeff's great post too. In this thread I've composed more posts than submitted, submitted as many as I have because it's the exercise with regard; 'post count' and I find these days, these are the type musings I enjoy. You know, just to see and make sure Offshore gets out of Guangzhou safely and can't wait to see Nanuq's new crib up to the rafters in powder. Beyond; "Nice watch!", "Congrats, it's a beauty!", "Wear it well and in good health!" I have not much input technically to a hobby that passed me up years ago. I am stuck in that time slot; the moment RWGjr. opened it's doors. All my watches. Hilarious. There's no place for unmodded TWB crown guards and slugs passing for HEV's in the weekly wrist check. It's like the Edsel. There was a time tho'. Was a time. By the time RWG went off-line it was a real hump. The last year I was disappointed the 'benefactor' re-upped the domain costs. It was more then time for the site to go away. Way more. I was committed to it for no other reason than it was fascinating in the laissez-faire, but in the end felt as though I should have been committed for said same. It got very dark on more than several occaisions. Spooky dark. Like Hannibal Lecter dark. I got caught up in some of that. It unnerved me. It wasn't me. The laissez-faire is touted as, "The place I can just be me without putting on airs, be real......" True. Real flipping nutso. I trotted over to rwg jr. jr. with the flow, and don't get me wrong, Greg has done a great job with it, the members are engaged and committed, and Col. supports it, they have fun, so there's the only recommendation anyone would need to at least check it out, but for me? Over it and God Bless. If this site were one iota more like the others and less, as Gunnar pointed out, like TRC I'd be out too. The better part of people is not their unbridled honesty, it's the measures they take to get along and pull together. If they have to suck it up and 'fake it' a bit, compromise to control themselves to get it done? All the better. If it's "work" it's noble. If it's "wholesome" work it's immaculate. I'm going to stick around for the 'feel good'. To tell you the truth, "Off-Topic" and all that? The less 'real' up in here the better. Unless it's a real 1:1 Sub case.
  22. Mega dittos, and not a PAM in sight! YEAH! Not that there's anything wrong with that Oh dear. I am a Pammophobic. Oh well. Good. I get choked up when I see those Cousteaus. I loved that man so. Great collection. I could close my eyes, dig in and pull out a winner every time.
