I'm finishing a vintage restoration project on a watch and I want to fit the finished case with 16-18mm gold or two-tone bracelet. I'm looking for a presidential style band and I'm hoping the Rolex experts may have found a good high quality product that I can take and modify a bit. Any thoughts?

I have the gen in hand, and in comparing it to the rep, it looks very close (size, hand length, crown case, etc). The differences are as follows

1. The omega logo is connected below rather than in the middle

2. The omega symbol/logo has upturned happy feet.

3. The case back itself is kind of a mess. The quality of the engraving is low. The serial number on the bracelet should be centered. It should not read "Seamaster." Instead it should have the anti-replication logo.

4. The color of the hands and markers look to light, though that could just be the photograph.

All things considered it is very accurate, and I'm confident that the average person would not think it is a rep. Even side by side, its a hard tell.

Does anyone have any input on the accuracy and functioning of this watch?

It says that it has a functioning power reserve but a faux indicator. I'm guessing this is a function of the fact that the A21J doesn't have a the ability to run for 7 days, but the power reserve instead shows the true power reserve of the movement. Otherwise I would love to hear from someone that owns this watch and can opine as to the quality of the gold, movement, reliability, etc.

I agree about the dial. Some aging would be appropriate for this piece, but for me it wasn't a deal breaker. Below are some pics of the case back. According to the omega webpage, the case number for this watch indicates that it was produced between 1954 and 1959. (http://www.omegawatches.com/cu_vintage/main.php, with alternative dial).

For those of you who care, or are looking to kill some time, the movement looks like the 30mm 1939. Omega gives the following information about this movement

Description: Due to its exceptional flexibility, its regulating performance, its robustness and ease of maintenance, this legendary calibre was for Swiss-quality Gentleman's wrist watches what, from 1894, the 19''' had been for pocket-watches of the period. Extensive research enabled ideally proportioned components to be used, which accounted for its top quality performance. The surface area of the barrel and the balance was designed to be as wide as possible to allow a first class regulating performance. The most efficient transmission of power was found by paying meticulous attention to the dimensions of the gears: the smallest escapement possible was used for such a high quality calibre.

The 30mm would mark the history of watchmaking for a quarter of a century, from 1939 to 1963. Thanks for the tips. Ill start winding it conservatively at first until I get comfortable with the watch. As for the servicing, the seller informed me that it was recently serviced and adjusted. I think this is probably true as the dial is obviously restored, a fact that I'm ok with.

Sorry its not a 300, but I'll keep my eyes open.

Also, its still shipping so if something about it screams fake, please advise. I'm new to the vintage market.

I just bought a vintage seamaster. it is the first manual wind watch I've owned and I have some noobie questions about use.

1. How many times should I wind it?

2. Is it possible to over wind the watch?

I have a slightly used (approximately 30 days of desk top usage) SS bracelet for sale or trade. Please be aware that the clasp is slightly weak. It has never opened on me or caused me any trouble, but is something to consider.

Any comment on the date font (i.e. correct, incorrect, close, not even?). It looks like the TT watches have two different date fonts.

i also have a book that was just purchased recently. Doubt its different than Couragee's, but if you think it might help shoot me a PM.

Joshua did the same for me on my carrera chrono. The clasp was very weak on arrival and he sent replacement right out. I was very impressed by his service.

I just ordered a brown leather strap with deplyment from trysty time for my Aqua Terra (they say it's for the 45mm PO, but it's the same size as my larger AT.) I'll post pics when I receive it. Only ordered this weekend.
