Hi there, just doing some research and seeing this. Was going to send something so VAC have you used them?
-
I actually wrote him personally and was to impatient to wait for his response LOL Legend is the man and he and I have had many conversations off the forums as well. I did not realize he was doing MODS now and I am excited to discuss this with him as well. I appreciate your response sir.
Here are a couple quick IPHONE pics but is it just a non modded early 09 batch from my TD

Gentleman, I hope this finds you all well. I realize I have been off our forum for a bit and for that, please forgive. Life has taken a turn and kept me busy with challenging matters. However, I find myself here hoping to engage in a conversation asking for your input and advice.
I have a Rose Gold Rubber Clad from the older batch. It is still a beauty and lasted for a very long time. Only recently did it become a paper weight which I know is our fear every time we purchase one of these watches. I will let you know that I bought this watch in 2009 and it only recently died so those of you who worry, give that some thought. I got plenty of use out of it and I am not complaining.
Here is my question......
My research tells me that in 2012 the GEN and REP released a new version and UPDATED DIAL.
Do I:
send the old watch for service and mods (AR, Lume) which will cost me the same as a new watch
OR
Purchase the newest watch and get the mods done eventually when I feel like spending the extra cash
then do what with the dead watch? Stick it in a drawer?
i am curious to hear what you would do and what your thoughts are. As a long time member here. I respect your thoughts and opinions.
Thank you in advance!

Been off line for a minute brother. This is stunning.. Thanks for sharing... Hope you have been well.

It truly is beautiful. Been going down to the Yucatan for probably 35 years. Before Cancun was just getting off the ground, and Cozumel was still a sleepy fishing/ dive destination. Now all the cruise ships stop there, and it's pretty much a tourist trap. Still pretty decent diving, but the reefs are nothing like they were back then!!
I can imagine, we had lunch on the beach in Tulume at this little hidaway hippy spot it was amazing and the ocean was so clear and clean and the breaze was incredible.
-
Not a problem sir. We used to go to the area, Cancun, Cozumel every year to dive. Haven't been in about 4 years though. All the Mexican Narcotic smuggling gangs sort of out a damper on things, quite a few innocent tourists have been killed and wounded from the crossfire between rival gangs, gangs and the Militia, and sometimes just a bunch of gang members riding around shooting, or settling Scores"
Gotten a little quieter lately so we may go back this year. Great place to visit.
the rest of the trip we were on the riviera maya in cancun at a new resort wasy off the beaten path out of the city. Not at all what I imagines when my wife mentioned cancun, to which my reaction was, "the spring break place?" this was no where near any of all that and was so beautiful.

Looks like Tulum? Am I close? That is a lovely watch. Is the Iguana going to be lunch? Just kidding.
Some shots were taken in Tulum at the ruins. Spent the day there, what an amazing place. By far my favorite thing we did on the trip, besides sit by the pool and do nothing.......

Just a few Iphone snaps of my FC 44mm on vacation in Mexico, what the camera lacked in focus was made up in the beautiful scenery. Nothing new here to you guys, just some fun snaps, I thought I would share. Big ups to my friend Legend for helping me hold out for the right model and version of my watch, which I love. My only complaint I would say is the band is not that comfortable in comparison to my other AP's. I will be looking for an after market strap, It may not be red though Legend! lol

I had a quick question. Did changing the strap have anything to do with the discomfort of the rep strap? Or purely your incentive stylish Maner? Haha
Seriously. I find my strap incredibly uncomfortable in comparison to the rubber rep straps that come with the 42mm AP reps I have. I'm not sure red is the move for me. Truly would prefer to stick with a black rubber but this thing is awful uncomfortable. Suggestions? Thoughts comments?

Heyyy buddy how're you doing?
Here's a shot for you taken from home.

wrist shot makes a huge difference, the light is great. I like the contrast. Since I own the same watch, it makes me think a GEN black leather and red stitching band mitght be nice as well.

Looks very nice my friend, enjoy. If I wasn't such a big Lebron hater I might indulge. lol. Got my FC 44mm yesterday. it's everything you said it would be in the flesh.

Simply the best, always

Always appreciate and respect what you have to say, thatnk you for sharing with us.

I think what Z showed and the one on Puretime is one and the same. The difference could be due to angle and lighting.
There is only one version released. In the pre-order version, the subdial rings were too thick and this was corrected.
My friend does this correction warrent a second consideration in your opinion or would you still feel a v2 is in the wings per dial and other considerations as per your previos posting

pictures look nice. What are your thoughts in person of the watch. please share.

Hard not to mention the quality of this watch, more difficult not to mention the quality of this member. Always a pleasure chatting with Legand, reading his posts, his kindness to others on the board and his keen knowledge of our little hobby. Congrats on your purchase. enjoy.

on point as always. The Gen is so beautiful. Really breathtaking, in my humble opinion.

be nice if they could have pulled off the bracelet.

Here's an old thread. I have the Navy with an AP brand Blue Rubber Strap. This is from the first batch I purchased in 09 still works perfectly. My only issue today I have is the rubber on my crown pusher rubbed off. Other than that she runs perfect. Anyway. Here's the old thread.

Schumi? Was this what this thread was about?
Please pardon me young J.
The Schumi is a well-made rep, but the datewheel ring, as well as the sub dial rings, are too thick.
The datewheel font is a little off but liveable. The usual datewheel position flaw applies, and the actual finishing of the dial is not clear from the pics.
In brevity, I am likely skipping this one, despite the marketing hype.
I anticipate a V2, not out of naive hopes, but because the maker spent a lot getting this model repped and produced. They would be hoping to push numbers for this watch, and feedback from the market would be heeded more seriously, much like the diver series. I would advise you to be patient. Do not jump on the bandwagon just yet. You will likely end up selling it, knowing your fastidious character.
I agree completely. My comment wasn't regarded as a statement of class; we are after all discussing rep watches. No one is supposed to be trying to "pass off" anything. Sam Walton creator of Wal-Mart drives a pick up truck. Warren Buffet was just seen in Los Angeles at a burger counter in LA. Life and class isn't related to what we drive or what we wear, you certainty can't buy those things. After all when did that become the discussion here? I was under the impression the discussion was being called out for wearing a watch that seemed like only athletes wore or could get away with. My response was, that is just not the case. As for those few individuals who are "passing off" reps as real watches and getting out of cars that they can afford which is no big deal and certainly no judgment from me but it would then "seem" more obvious that perhaps they were wearing rep. Then again maybe they were just choosing to spend their money the way they wanted to. My response was sharp but in line with the topic, my esteem and most respected colleague made an excellent point that I agree with completly. I am just saying now that I respectfully was referring only to the issue that more than athletes and movie stars wear AP watches, that's all, no other class judgments included. That said, my intention was not to be harsh but to make a stern point, if I failed to do so, my appologies to all.

I don't get the ap hype. They are beautifully finished but it so unbelievable when wearing one....And isn't that what it is all about in rep world? Unless you are a famous movie star or football player stepping out of a 2014 Bentley I would call you out immediately.
Apparently you live in a small town. In Los Angeles there are plenty of people who wear Ap watches, trust fund kids, producers, actors, lawyers, poker players. You can pick up used Ap's for under 15k for a fine GEN watch that's really nothing. As for the higher end models, sure if a guy gets out of a honda with a Rose Gold AP I might say, hmm pretty quickly...
-
First rule of rep club... Never wear a rep into an authorized dealer. Not only would you embarrass yourself but it shows no class whatsoever.
Just my opinion

Been a while since i have posted, Hope all are well with my esteemed members on here. I had some time this week and made my way into WESTIME in Los Angeles, CA and felt like a kid in a candy store. Trying on things, I also knew more about the AP's than the sales person which was pretty funny.
So many amazing things to look at and try on. My latest obsessions are the 44mm Chronos..... I have yet to pull the trigger on the Forged Carbon 44mm although trying on the GEN was incredible and it was not as jet black as it has pictured, which was causing my hesitation.
However, this is the model I am now currently most obsessed with. Maybe a bit more of a summer watch but still just beautiful. I realize this isn't being rep'd but I would love it if it was. They gave me this incredible book of all the new models coming out, it's like a piece of art sitting on my night stand.
All the best,
Goodfella
