  1. I don't think it is hypocritical to wear a Rolex at church... I think it definitely is if you own one and take it off before going to church !!! If you do want to follow what Jesus said, don't just sell your Rolex but also your Seiko, your car, your house. And don't even think of coming to this forum. You wont be interested in it anyway.
  2. Maybe in Japan but not in the west IMHO. It would rather be: "how much did you pay for it". And even gen owners may not spot good reps with a quick handling if they are not knowledgable with reps. I think the test was: "if he doesn't take it off, it's a rep otherwise it's a gen" Confidence is the dead giveaway
  3. I agree with you. The ruby is not that bad...
  4. Is that a competition for the ugliest watches????
  5. In fact after some research I found the following: http://www.ozdoba.net/swisswatch/caliber2.html http://www.horlogerie-suisse.com/2004/Pane...auRadiomir.html
  6. What are the most acknowledgable pure mechanical movements in the market? Movements that include significant inventions, have a proven accuracy and reliability record, etc. Breakthrough calibers. In other words: If you where ever to acquire a genuine for it's internal parts, what would you buy (with a budget under $5000)? Lemania 1873: on of the most robust chrono ever produced (Speedmaster chrono) El Primero: Zenith's flagship and Daytona's caliber ETA 2892: modular, maybe less robust Valjoux 7750: widespread Omega 33XX (Broad Arrow), although a 'bug' has been reported Omega co-axial: the latest major advance or just a marketing fad? ... What do you think? Is the information I gathered correct? Are there more calibers? I wish I could find a correspondence list between brand's movements or watch models and their generic "inspiration", e.g. Daytona <=> EP, etc. And a database describing these different movements...
  7. That's interesting. I'm impressed by Zenith's movements but their designs are not very consistent. Which models are using EP?
  8. I do like some Tag Heuer designs a lot (Aquaracer, Monza, Monaco, Carrera chrono, F1). At the same time I hate Kirium, 2000 and 6000 series. Link's dial is great but the bracelet screws up the watch. So in the end I find it hard to justify their prices. Tag Heuer watches are not cheaper than Omega but its brand value is lower. They use a lot of quartz. Can anybody compare Omega's co-axial caliber with Tag Heuer's caliber 36? Actually I have a 2000€ budget to buy a gen and was thinking of Omega but... still hesitating... How about Tudor, Oris, Tag Heuer... What woul you suggest. Thanks for your help.
  9. Why not? Depends who you are... For more pics check out the humour section.
  10. Dear Trusty, First I'd like to say that like many others I've bougth watches from you & I'm happy of your service and of the watches too. But I don't understand your reaction after reading the threads. Many praise you so I'd think you could be rather proud and fulfilled. There're a lot of comments on watches, good and bad. Of course some members focus on the defects... but many are balanced. Checks are often serious. Picture quality is high. If you design genuine watches and are successful, your designs may be reviewed in a watch magazine, which will check your watches and list down their strengths & weaknesses. It's the same in most jobs, there is always somebody reviewing your results!! On top of this, this is replica! So there is something to directly compare, moreover this genuine watch used for comparison is of very high quality, and holds status value so if the owner is found waring a rep he may be worse off than if he were not wearing anything... So why do you want to skip the scrutiny and feedback? This is very good for your business! In many other situation I'd love to have such a rich customer feedback to checl my products' quality, the directions of the market, etc. Internet brings you a lot of customers, tell's you what they want, enables you to communicate with them, etc. etc. So what are you complaining for??? Do you ask for special praise? You got it. Do you need to raise your prices in order to cover your risks? Pricing is up to you. Do you want special consideration for the hurdles you face and for which we are paying? Again, I do appreciate you and what you're doing. You've brought a new standard in the quality of dealing & communication with end users. But I don't really understand your reaction. Tag.
  11. Should that really be a problem? If you hide the papers properly and wear the watch, they'll never find out where you bought it? On top of it, will customs be aware of brands like DeWitt, etc.? Just wondering...
  12. Sorry, had a much better one a week back until some members raised an issue about nudity in signatures n all. I didn't know that dealing with reps was a family activity!!!
  13. Hi all! I'm going to Milano tomorrow. Can anybody recommend me good shops or areas for watches? I'm wondering if I can get good deals (gens) in Milano... I guess nowhere beats Hong Kong though. Thanks in adv.
  14. Wow....... Reps finances terrorism; Gens are sold by a Swiss cartel... How dangerous World of Watches is! What shall we do? Buy Seiko? Oh yes, Timex! GW. Bush wears a Timex! In Timex we trust! Admin, could you open a section for Timex reps please?
  15. I bought the same YM from the same dealer 2 months ago. I was disappointed by its low quality. Even for a non expert like me it's so obvious it's a rep. On top of it mine has dust & fingerprints under the glass. So, I haven't worn it so far. I wonder if I will ever do. Useless to have a rep Rolex and hide it...
  16. This legal [censored] does not impress me, and the fact it comes from your governement does not make it worthy to me! Again please check the definition of "cartel" because even the US gov. would recognize there isn't any. This subpoena isn't about cartel. I agree that manufacturers play a role in pricing of course... but not without the market. If nobody buys a toothbrush at $100, nobody will sell it... The market sets the price. If Omega's sales slows down, they will slow down the prices hikes -otherwise they may shut down the shop after a while. So in the end the market sets prices. And on the "rip-off" argument, like somebody said earlier, there is no rip-off of any sort as you are not required to buy nor sold something that is significantly overvalued. You're not being cheated on the quality nor on the brand name. You buy something partly tangible (watch), partly intangible (brand) but you do get you you paid for. I think that we, rep buyers, should be honest about this. It's useless to look for an argument that would reduce our guilt in acquiring a replica. If I do buy a rep, I am for sure cheating the brand that is replicated -and infringing some laws too. I do it because there are some watch designs I find cool but can't afford. You can think (some) luxury watches are overpriced or not, anyway these watchmakers are not ripping off anybody! This said, I'm not trying to convince you and respect you point of view. No animosity here! tag.
  17. I don't agree with you (at all). I've asked myself the same question and made some research and came to the conclusion that there is no rip off of any sort. In fact, I believe luxury watches are worth it but just... not affordable to all! First I found that there are no watch cartel! Even though there have been some consolidation there is still fierce competition between the luxury brands. And the most famous of all is independant... Rolex. Second, the profit of public luxury groups like Richemont or Swatch are healthy but not oversized (about 14% of revenue). Third, the difference between a rep and a gen is much more significant than the 20% you're guessing. Only tax already represents about 20%. Add marketing, sponsoring, research, quality control, labor costs in rich countries... capital cost as well because honorable watchmakers used more precise and expensive machinery; distribution costs as well: jewellers take about 50% of the list price, which is a much higher percentage than basic retail's - and rep dealers... Here is an example: a $2000 gen watch's price will be split as follow: - $1000 for the jeweller - $400 for the wholesaler - at best $600 for the watchmaker, and these $600 will cover all the mentioned above: - labor costs - capital costs - parts and - quality control - research - marketing, sponsoring - taxes - etc. Fourth, without any doubt gens are much, much more reliable and their quality is not comparable to the reps. Only appearance is. Also think about warranty; waterproofing like you mentioned. Etc. etc. Now what about price control? Rolex is being sued for price control in the US. But these practices are common but all luxury goods. I don't see anything illegal in this. Anyway the demand is so strong that Omega for instance has been able to raise its prices by an average of 7% for the past 5 years. So the market is commanding such high prices! PS. There have been a topic on this subject: check out http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=5952&hl= and also (loosely related) http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=7245 tag.
  18. "true"... but not useful. it's like you didn't understood the question.
  19. I don't have a good experience with Trusty's Rollies. I got a $198 Yatch-Master a few monthes ago and it's yelling 'fake!' aloud. From the first second I thought 'What a [censored]', even though I'm not expert at Rolexes. Trusty claims it's got the thick hours hand like genuine but... in his website pictures the minute hand hides the hours hand: it is not a coincidence because the latter is... too thin. On top of that: - Dial color is wrong - Dust and fingerprints under the glass - Defect on bezel Trusty did not admit any of these flaws. So for sure Trusty communicates well and seems trusty so far but... sells at a high price and not always good quality! I would like to know where I can get the best Rollies...
  20. You said it ! What a shame !! In my case I don't care whether I get comments or not. I just like to have them on my wrist. I prefer to have a few gens than a lot of reps but for some brands like PAM... it's worth getting a rep !
