  1. I believe most of these dealers simply drop ship and none of them actually scrutinise the watch before shipping.

The 1911 Discovery is one of the better looking chrono models out there. Its one of the slimmest watch with a 7750 movement. I'm not sure if you've seen it at the AD, there's a blue bezel version with blue hands on a white dial. Thats another beautiful piece which you dont find from reps.

Thanks guys, i'm sure you exactly know what this kind of disappointment means. :(

What really pisses me off is the fact i sent a message to the dealer, at least twice, with a complete check list ( bezel alignment and crown functionality are included).

I told him..take your time but please check it carefully before shipping out....

Anyway i kindly disagree :D , i'm almost sure the black insert 's glued in the bezel but considered also the other flaw (slippery and wobble crown) i prefer to get a replacement.

I was told there's no correct bezel at stock, i'm not sure at all it's the truth, so i'm waiting for a refund.

By-Tor, you're completely right, it's a sporty watch, much sportier than IWCs for example and usually i cannot fall in love with this style.

But this watch is so well built that i'm gonna make an exception (assuming a can have a model with no big flaws). :D

I went to the local AD but there was only the black dial model so i couldn't compare this one with the white dial.

From pics i like both very much.

White is indeed more elegant and classy. :)

  2. Just take a look at digit '4' in the rep vs the gen and you'll notice the difference.

There are also other differences like the AR coating on the rep... its too bluish compared to the gen.

The chrono buttons and crown protrudes further out on the rep.

The alignment of the short 15 min marker (right next to the date) is very slightly tilted as compared to the gen.

Other differences are due to the use of the A7750.

Despite the differences, its certainly a very close rep of the gen piece IMO.

By-Tor numbers are different for sure, letters are similar but if you look the watch in the flesh and you're used to ETA wheels, you can easily see the difference (different font and different printing quality). :)
  3. U cant go wrong with the black dial, its a nice piece. The only thing that bothers me a little is the AR coating on the crystal, too bluish as compared to the gen. I went to take a look at some gen pieces and found that models with the blue and orange bezel looks great too! Its too bad the rep makers did not rep these pieces. Here's 2 pics of the ones i'm talking about:

  4. Nice Ebel collection! There's something very appealing in Ebel watches that you dont find in other brands. Its the elegant yet sporty design, looks great in any occasion and suits many wrist sizes. I like it as it has a brushed finishing in most places yet retains some polished surfaces in some. This is my very first rep and its a Ebel... guess i'm hooked on Ebel watches too! :p

  5. Avitt, i guess i must be pretty lucky, it so happens that the model i'm looking for has a very good super rep available. I've seen other reps and they appear to have more flaws/differences when compared to their gen pieces. Perhaps another good super rep would be the Tag Link Chrono?

I joined the Discovery Club over the holidays...It a fantastic piece! Thanks again for the review, By-Tor.

@rubik, you picked a fine one for your first rep. But I'm afraid that you may have to adjust your expectations downwards...they're not all this good!

  6. It is indeed a well balanced watch. It is my very first rep & my very first chronograph piece, thanks to your review! :p

I've got a Qs, i noticed that there is some slack (more than i've ever encountered with other gen Swiss ETA movements like 2824, 2836, etc.) with the min hand. Is this caused by the A7750 or is it the same with the gen 7750?

    Hey man... that's a stunner!

First time I see real life pictures of the black version.

I'm really loving my white... just as much as the day I got it. This is very cool & well balanced watch.

    Thanks for sharing!

  7. By-Tor, thanks for the great review and excellent pics! I've actually been looking for the gen piece of this model but it appears that there arent many dealers carrying this brand, especially for the 1911 Discovery model. I was also somewhat disappointed with the very poor pre-owned value for this watch. While searching for a better deal online, i stumbled upon this forum and came across this thread. As a result of my curiosity, i ended up with this rep ...

This is indeed a very nice chronograph model and its very comfortable on the wrist, no doubt contributed by the appropriate weight, relatively slim case and a very comfortable strap. I'm a little surprised by the accuracy of the A7750, which is running at an average of +6 secs/day (just within COSC spec!). This is indeed a very high quality rep, amazing!!! :thumbsupsmileyanim:
