  1. Ubi, I'm doing well, thanks for remembering. :)

I met with The Zigmeister, J and a couple of friends from the forum recently and the visit got the rusty engine restarted. I also just received two of my favorite watches from Doctor Zigmeister's spa (another master) which I have not been able to wear for some time and that certainly got me in a fine watch mood.

BTW, I still have your/Palp 1680 joint project watch from eons ago. Need to get it serviced but it is one fine looking piece. A few months ago, a dealer asked me about a trade-in possibility for something more modern. :D

Hope all is fantastic with you as well!

  2. Darn fantastic work of art there, Ubi! You certainly haven't lost that 'ol magic touch. B)

Heck, it took me six months to hunt down the parts for my 1665 and that was just the essentials.

I have been gone for a while but terrific to see you still putting these beauties together. I'm still smitten by the Tudor no-date project you completed many moons ago.

    Congrats on the new toy!

BTW, great to see some old friends around.

    Cheers,

    Jet

  3. Hey, BT!

I have a very similar Heuer diver, pre-Tag. The one you pictured looks to be an '80s vintage and were available with quartz & ETA mechanical movement with the latter being the rarer bird. Personally, I would opt for the ETA and have it serviced and it will rock for many moons to come.

The watches have substantial cases, are built like tanks (at least speaking from my Heuer) and represent a very steady investment. As you may have noticed, collectors & diver fans continue to seek these guys.

BTW, the watch in your photo may be mechanical as it doesn't have "quartz" printed on the dial.

Best of luck with the hunt. :) Darn nice gift!

    Cheers,

    J

  4. I never get into political discussions on any forum but I'll make an exception this one time.

Sarah may not have the thick resume of other VP candidates under consideration but I must admit, she has fired up this race like no other selection would have, not even close.

As to her seeming lack of experience, she has far more executive experience than Obama which basically has zero. She's tough, bright, sticks by her convictions regardless of political consequences and is a fiscal conservative. I for one, do NOT appreciate elected officials in Washington wasting tax payer dollars and then proposing higher tax rates for individuals, small businesses, capital, dividends and so forth just so they can get their hands on more.

I am concerned about the economy and it is the #1 issue that we face today. Social issues (on both sides) have unfortunately become too much of a factor in influencing important US elections. As was mentioned in an earlier post, social issues do not generate jobs, place food on the table, pay mortgages or fund a child's education.

Should Sarah become the first US American VP, I suspect that it could make for one very interesting showdown with Hillary in 2012. The network ratings would be explosive!

Nanuq, I may have to visit Alaska. If Sarah is any indication of the ladies you have there, I'm game. :D

  5. Congrats, Stephane!

Fantastic watches. :thumbsupsmileyanim: Glad to see that all worked out well for you in the end.

And you're right. Without this community, it would be impossible to properly build any of these vintage beauties.

I've read that gen T127 and T-19 crystals have shot up in price. Too bad if true as they make a world of difference on these rollies.

So which one will you bring to NYC? :p

  6. Great watch, Ubi!

I was initially of the opinion it was the genuine article until I noticed the slightly low crown position. On the wrist, I seriously doubt it would be noticeable. B) With a 2892-A2, I suspect the crown position could have been darn near perfect.

The dial is one of the nicest I've seen on the 16610. I certainly wouldn't mind having it on my old lug hole TW best. :p

BTW, nice pics with the new camera!

    Enjoy!

  7. Darn nice 5513 and great report/photos!. Big improvement on the dial markers and patina. Nice touch with the vintage style crown. It's perhaps my fave of all your watches, 16600 excluded from company :D

I don't think you can get any better than this unless you spring for the gen, but those are over priced, IMO.

I hope this beauty finds room in your luggage on your next visit to the Big Apple. :p

    Enjoy!

    J

  8. RH, good to hear that you picked up your watch from a stand up seller. Based on the info I have, the ref 7928 was only available with the caliber 390,17-jewel/Valjoux722 & mercedes hands. I suspect a movement/dial/hand swap must have been made at some point for whatever reasons. Your Tudor has a very collectible case and depending on price, it's a nice watch.

I never understood fully the rationale for the substantial premium for the cal 390 as it is not a Rlx movement. Sourcing parts can also be a bear of a task. They are inaccurately advertised as Rlx movements way too often.

  9. Thanks guys.

@Jetsons: Have you managed to source a good, thin GMT hand for a wrong stack ETA model? I also have one wrong stack "Noob" model, and the only thing that bothers me on that watch is the hand rim, which is too thick.

Let me know if you know a source.

BT, I have these from our Texas fleabay insert friend:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/WATCH-HANDS-FOR-ETA-28...bayphotohosting

The GMT hand is a tad longer and thinner than the standard rep hand of the 2893-2, 16710. I haven't tried to see if it properly fits the movement but this is the only source I am aware of. I emailed Clark but he doesn't stock GMT hands, at least for this particular movement.

    Cheers!

  10. BT, awesome GMT and as always, terrific write up. :)

I have often thought about springing for a gen as well. However, my old school 2893-2 GMT (flaws aside) is such a terrific watch that it has been difficult to justify $4K for the gen. Once I get around to installing the gen dial & a few other touches, it will probably be one of my all time favorite clones. The GMT feels fantastic on the wrist and has a fun factor that sets it apart from most other rlx sport models. B)

Congrats & enjoy the new toy!

Nice GMT you have there, Stephane! There is no substitute for a gen dial. :D
