  1. As above really, who knows what steel they use in our reps but I'll add; Genuine Rolex bracelets up until now are not made of 904L. The deepsea and the new Milgauss are exceptions. This is an assumption due to their marketing. Bracelets have been tested on gen forums and show 316L. The GMT IIc hasnt been tested yet but its possible the new models will all begin to have 904L bracelets!
  2. Not really a Pam person, but the 111 is SO intense, I feel like the 111 is really the embodiment of the Panerai core design really. The crispness of the dial on this one (captured wonderfully by your pics) is insane! If I ever saw one chiefed and lumed in the sales corner I think it'd be hard to resist. The lume is I think an essential part of the design and thus makes it essential! Is this one superlumed? If not any plans to add it?
  3. Samurai, I didn't realise you were taking all the pics that you've been posting recently? They are absolutely incredible, such clarity and contrast.. but I'm almost certain the fire temperatures would destroy the watch?
  4. Great pics bro! The gen looks gooood! I'm dying for a gen and mostly for good lume at this point! I want lume that lasts more than 20 seconds Shameless threadcrap; I am also a phone-camera user! I use a Nokia N82, (Same photo sensor as the N95 but plus Xenon flash) That macro mode is awesome isnt it? Couple of my favourites!
  5. Pictures like this just remind me of our saying; "Gens are gens"
  6. So, you think the inhabitants of Earth are the only life in the whole universe, huh? How big do you think you are exactly?!
  7. Indeed, the UK membership on this board really is rising! The British are coming! Forgot to say.. welcome jbw!
  8. To add a little about culture; I think the way the UK approaches things culturally is completely different. The finals of games aren't preceded with people singing "God Save the Queen" and the Red Arrows flying overhead while the audience cry staring at the National Flag. It seems to me that America is forced to be involved with watching and absorbing the superbowl. The level of patriotism, and as such the idea of belonging seems to be alot stronger in the US. Football is an interesting game that has changed over the past 40 years in a great way. There are 2 sides to it though; you mentioned the 'hooliganism' that goes on within the rivalry, but this is somewhat a stereotypical view and often limited to particular 'rival' teams. (i.e. Green Street). This is prominent when in some areas of London, when things like pubs may only welcome supporters of a certain local team.. The other side is one that seems on the outer somewhat more 'glamorous', these involve the top teams fuelled by billions of pounds in order to 'buy success' (as mentioned above and are supported by a large fanbase including often less 'serious' (and I choose my words carefully!) supporters. See, what I've found in my personal experience is the people that support the 'smaller' less successful teams that are rooted in this hooliganism activity arent ever just passive supporters! Football involvement is basically prompted at an early age by either peoples fathers, or through Gym classes at school, and follows on from there - but there is no real force to get into it. On the other hand some of the stereotypically 'middle/upper class' schools people would not play football at all and instead play Rugby; as such in some affluent areas locally seem more involved and interested in Rugby as a result. You mention college; the whole way American football works is totally different to European football in this respect. Individuals are not given scholarships to universities to study things like history or economics for their sporting prowess at all in the UK. There is no established culture of this, infact I'd go as far to say if you wanted to follow your sporting dream you would have to depart from serious education when school finishes (16 years of age) and attempt to get into a number of football recruitment or School of Excellence programs.
  9. Wow, Josh's packaging has gone up a step! Gz Laz!
  10. Hey TJ! Couple of things; what do you mean by "bezel locked?" I thought it rotated freely with no clicks on a GMT master and also the printing on the clasp, you say it may not be correct for this model but is that font correct for any gen rolex at all? Just a little curious!
  11. Not being funny, Graham watches some of the most ugly things I've ever seen. They remind me of toy planes for 6 year olds. Don't even know how you can find them even slightly appealing! Wouldn't wear the most expensive Graham gen even if it was gifted to me!
  12. Not long to go for the LV for me, you got an SD coming Kruz?
  13. I'm the same as you guys, I'm still waiting for there to be a final bloody version of this watch released.. So what is this.. the v5? They've called every version since the V2 "Ultimate"
  14. Wow, nice piece and great pictures to boot! That lume shot is really something.
  15. I really love the look of the gen for some reason. It's not understated to say the least but.. like.. there isnt an extravagant design on it and no clashing colours like some random ORANGE on it or something. I find the black sub too understated and a little 'normal' for me. Dealers pictures aren't much to go on as we know unfortunately! (Just look at the pics of the portofino!) but the rep in the picture looks much too dark. If they make a good, lighter - more accurate version of this sub I think I'd have to go for it. I don't care that the gen is only made in white gold really, after all - this whole hobby is about buying what you want and like! To add; I made a couple of comments in another thread about my predictions for the new ceramic subs, and the addition of an AR'd cyclops is one of the new features that is actually present on the white gold gen.
  16. I assume this is what the dial will look like for the new SS ceramic sub when it appears (maxi), not sure if they'll use the AR'd cyclops though. Hopefully they will since its absolutely amazing and totally in place. I don't quite understand how it works though.. here and in the GMT IIc, the cyclops looks like a cut out section of the glass because its so clear. Does this mean that theres a small section of the crystal beneath the cyclops that is also AR'd in the same shape?? If not surely the AR would be on the cyclops but then the reflection of light would come from beneath it on the original crystal. No idea, maybe someone knows though!
  17. The saddest thing about this story for me is that you gave a gift from your father away Aside from that; I've had massive PayPal problems in the past to the point at which they were attempting to summon me to a court appearence in San Jose, CA.
  18. I've also seen that video, weird guys in it..
  19. carl I cant wait to hear about when you next get to compare yours with the gen after the metal cleaning/polishing also which you said makes a world of difference! I was worried that doing this would remove the brushed finish, although the steel of our reps does look somewhat 'dirty'!
  20. I've also missed him, am usually in some kind of PM correspondence with him and I sent him a msg a few weeks back now saying that he's missed! This is beginning to sound like a tribute thread..!

    904L

carl, I wasn't disputing what you said at all?! On the contrary, I agree with what you said. Having seen a Milguass with a 904L bracelet next to a regular sports Rolex TODAY at the AD, I know exactly what you mean. I was trying to illustrate to ken exactly how the different metals could be used together without looking that different.

    904L

I'm flooding my own thread with my own posts, and for that I apologise! But the reason why I wanted to concentrate on what the materials used were and NOT how they looked is quite simply because we're using our human eyes to judge it, which I'm afraid is far from exact science. Lets call 316 'A', and 904L 'B' The squares A & B are actually the same colour.

Actually, some eagle eyed gen collectors do say they can notice the difference between the head and the bracelet while discussing this topic. The main difference (which seems to camoflage the slight difference in colour) is of course the finish, the cases are often polished on the sides of the lugs and diagonally brushed in a different manner to the way the bracelet is finished (heavily brush stroked vertically). This said; the colour difference isnt like black and white, some people will notice it more prominently and some wont notice at all. After all - steel is steel.
