  1. Hi there guys...

So there was me thinking id give it a whirl and try to make a franken project for my omega SMP black , the model i have has a good case and i managed to re lume the hands very well... (by the way its dead easy with non painted metal finish hands.. you can be pretty messy putting it on.. one wipe with some solvents lume gone from the metal sections of the hands only left perfectly in the lumed bit..!!)

    dialhands.jpg

all good so far ... but i'd only gone and bought the wrong dial... its the quartz version..!!

    GenDay.jpg

    genlume.jpg

But it all looks so great that i though what the hell i'll make a franken quartz version.... So this is were i need some help..!!

    Found the perfect movement a:-

    ETA/ESA 955.412/4 Replaced By F05.111

Ligne Size 10.5, height 2.5, handsizes 70/120/20, functions: Date at 3, Uses: 3 hands, and cell 371. Swiss made gold plated movement.

    dead cheap $17.00!!!!

    and some gen hands.. :-

Genuine Omega Hour And Minute Hands For Model 2264.50.00

Caliber number 1538 which is quartz and that is the same as ESA 255.461.

The correct hole size is 70/120 and 14.0/9.5 mm long

my lovely relumed ones wont fit the quartz movment :wounded1:

But this is were you guys and our vast (hopefully shared) knowledge comes in..!!

i need a white numbers on a black back drop date wheel.

    possdial.jpg

The one i have for the rep is for a automatic movement .. wrong window placement..!

    windowprob1.jpg

Or alternatively if anyone knows were i can get a gen (thats not hundreds of bucks) or dam good lume rep automatic dial from that would be even better...!!

    Heellppp..!!!! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

    Cheers .. Millertime..

  2. The date window on the DG will line up with the correct dial from an automatic (2254.50). You can either look for a quartz movement and build your franken that way, or you can look for the correct dial (it should say chronometer - and be sure to get the full size version, and not the mid-size). You will have to remove the dial feet though, as the ETA and DG are in different positions.

It's tough building a franken for the first time, isn't it? I'm in the process of building a franken 2531.80 right now (even scored a genuine 1120), but it's a tough balance between money spent (go too far and might as well buy a used gen), as well as sourcing the correct parts!

Good luck and don't let mistakes get ya down. Put the quartz dial back on E-bay and find yourself the correct dial.

Thanks for the input guys... i was so excited to find a gen dial i didnt even notice it was a quartz one.. sh*t well $100 bucks down the drain, i would put it back on the bay but choped the feet off..!! If anyones interested... it does have fab lume.!

So the Gen Chronograph dial has the date window in the right place for my DG2813.??

    Cheers Miller Time.

  3. Hi All..

So my continuing rep watch obsession, i've decided to build a Franken Omega SMP black..

I've got a Gen bond smp blue.. and last time i had it serviced they lent me a smp black loved it ever since so i'm making the best rep i can.!

Started by reading Francisco fab tutorial(big thanks)

Then got my 21j smp black and swapped the movment to a high beat DG 2813 28,8k even swapped the date wheel over.. bit tricky all done with screw drives , twezzers and the like .. no glue the date wheel stuff going on here. :D :D

Then i thought i know i'll get some super lume and re lume the dial and hands.. How hard can it be ... i've got pretty steady hands.!

    mylumeday.jpg

    Wrong

    mylumenight.jpg

    Really wrong..!!

So after messing my face up... off to the bay to find a gen dial... !!

    dialcomp.jpg

And thats were the problems start.. well get worse..

The date window is in a different place on the gen dial..

The first pic is gen dial on top of rep. You can see the rep window it 2/3mm over to the right making lining up the date wheel impossible

    windowprob.jpg

    windowprob1.jpg

so now for the big ask.. Does anyone know where i can get a correct sized black date wheel to glue on top of the original one on the DG2813.??

I found this one on google.

    http://watchpart.co.uk/valjoux-7750-date-r...ack-p-2121.html

    And pic

    possdial.jpg

But no idea if its the right diameter for the gen dial.??

    Any advice would be super....

But not all bad news thought... my luming skills faired better with the hands.. (i think it had something to do with the slight recess on the hands made it much easier to keep it neat!!)

    dialhands.jpg

    Cheers .. MillerTime

  4. Hi All...

Right i know its been done before ... but my first mod and i just had to share..! Well Pleased..!!

Couldnt have been done without the post from gioarmani... Thanks man.

think it turned out quite good..

My DSSD Flat white bezel mod

    th_front1.jpg

    compared to gen

    th_gendssd.jpg

pear mod... dead easy just some 1500 grit wet and dry paper

    th_pearl-1.jpg

    Lume shot just for fun..

    th_lume.jpg

    Thanks for looking..

    Millertime..

  5. Hi Frank,

    Looks Good..!!

    Definatly not the V3 ..

Better date window bevel, and bezel numbers are thicker..

if its a V4 , which i dont think it is.. the lume will be off.. bluer hands and pearl, greener number markers.

Is the case back two peice or one.??

Also have a close look at the 6 o clock mark on the crystal front.. it should have a rolex cornet engraved on the inside of the glass .. it is tiny so you might need a loop.. but it is possible to see it with the naked eye under the right lighting conditions..

It might be a v2 but the numbers on the bezel look too good for that...

    So who knows V5..????

Couldnt find it on sillx web site whats the link.?? oh and how much..?? if you dont mind me asking.!

    Cheers Millertime..

  6. Hi All...

In my continuing quest in the hobbie that is becoming a bit to addictive..!!

I decided to swap the movement in my omega smp from the standard dg2813 to a hight beat dg4813.. sort of a practice befor i unleash myself on to the DSSD for the same mod..

Bought some tools , all the bits i needed...

Managed to get the thing apart... and remove a tiny little bit of fluff/dust that had been bugging me for ages..!!

    So all good so far.!!

Then the probs began , the DG4813 the part that the hands go on is to close to the face.???

    post-20256-1238604949_thumb.jpg

    compared with the DG2813.??

    post-20256-1238604906_thumb.jpg

have i got the wrong DG4813.??

    post-20256-1238605001_thumb.jpg

If so where abouts can i get the correct height ones from.??

Also managed to snap off the second hand locationg pin on my DG2813...!! so cant even put the thing back together..!! :o :o

    Any info would be sweet...

Please help a poor noobie

    Cheers, T

Oh and also (always put this on the end of all my posts so far , but no joy!) how do you post full size pics, like on all the post i read.???!

    Thanks.

    T

  7. So you think everybody who gets on a plan to fly to another country brings all of there watch papers just in case customs thinks the watch on your wrist is fake..!!

Dont be ridiculous... i would understand you concern if you had 20 of them in your luggage... But just one watch on your wrist no worrys..!

    :p :p

  8. Been keepin my eyes peeled on the net for close ups of DSSD bezels .. most of the manufacturers pics are photoshoped to hell and back so its hard to tell... but i found this one for sale on the luxury watch exchange.. looks gen with the beveling around the date window.. so i thought it would give us all a good idea of the color of the bezel number points .... What do you reccon.. looks very similar to how its sent out from our dealers, in color not thickness.

    post-20256-1238007146_thumb.jpg

Oh and anyone... how do you post full size pic's instead of the annoying reduced ones..!!

  9. Hi All....

Right, first off im a bit of a noob... well total noob really..!!

But i thought it was about time i put a proper post in .. Not like my first.." where to buy X -Y and Z watches from.?" Which by the way Toad, thanks for not grilling me to hard and pointing me towards your noob guide...Top reading.!

So since sining up ive pulled the trigger and got myself a:-

Pam 212 1950 flyback from ruby

bell & ross from house of souvenirs (not on your lists, but a good service, one of the watches i ordered didn't arrive (a uboat) and Lawrence refunded my money straight away no charges)

And a V3 Dssd from Andrew.... Which is what this is all about.!

    So Getting back on track,

Since getting the watch, (which is fantastic!) ive always thought the numbering on the bezel is a bit thin/wrong colour.. And ive read a fair bit about it all with various opinions , and a couple of fantastic modding tutorials.!

some say it should be painted with metallic bright silver spray paint (http://repgeek.com/showthread.php?t=48467&highlight=dssd+paint+mod)

Some say it should be painted with flat white enamel modeling paint (http://www.rwg.cc/members/To-Moddifying-Rolex-D-t94391.html)

Now ive looked through tonnes of pics on the web, and depending on lighting, angle and no dought photoshop there's a fair case for the silver the white and the grayish tint it is already.!

Short from moseying down my local dealers and holding them side by side .. which im sure would go down like a lead balloon..! i'm a bit stuck on which way to go :-

    A- Leave well alone.!

B- flat white enamel modeling paint

C- metallic bright silver spray paint

Here's some or the pics ive found to support each case.! (by the way how do you attach pics to look full page , on all the posts i read.?)

    Looks Silvery

    post-20256-1237716941_thumb.jpg

    Looks Grayish

    post-20256-1237716957_thumb.jpg

    Looks White

    post-20256-1237716968_thumb.jpg

Looks Photo shopped (could be anything!)

    post-20256-1237716983_thumb.jpg

My one (should i leave well alone.!)

    post-20256-1237716996_thumb.jpg

Some advice from the pro's out there or someone who has held them side by side (gen and Rep)

    On which way to go...!!

Thanks Alot.. Really enjoy the forum.!

    Cheers, Millertime.!

  10. Hi All, looking for some Pan experts advice..

    post-20256-1236884107_thumb.jpg

    post-20256-1236884137_thumb.jpg

    post-20256-1236884150_thumb.jpg

  11. Hi There Dandonnelly,

Well i got my DSSD last week from andrew @ trusty time. the 21j version ( http://www.tt88time.com/index.php?main_pag...roducts_id=3659 )

And its spot on .. looks fab, and the crystal front even has the rolex crown engraved at the 6 o clock point (which i only thought you got on the ETA versions) Personally i think they all have the same Synthetic Sapphire Glass front and saying different is just an excess to put the price up..!! But just my opinion .. And if the movment does go bad there cheap to replace.. only down side that i have noticed is the movment is louder than the original.. butr apert from that the look and feel is VERY gen.!

But saying all that , i was nosing around on RWG yesterday and cam across this site ... not sure if there a safe place to shop from .. but good prices..?? i might get a test purchase from them soon..

    There DSSD ETA is cheap..!

    http://asian7750.com/cn/product_show.asp?b...id=1241&ti=

Good luck and let me know if you do by from asian7750 curious if there the real deal..!!!

    Cheers .

I am interested in buying a 21j dssd v3 I have read that they share the same build as the eta but have a mineral crystal. I am wondering if the insert looks as good on the 21j watch as it does on the eta version as I feel it is amazing. If anyone has one could they post some pics of it?
