  1. Just a thought, but if you feel you have a "source" for some excellent reps, why not contact one of our trusted dealers and help them out? I'm sure they are always looking for new sources and you may be able to work out a finders fee with them. I really liked the GMTii you posted but not knowing anything about you, I would never buy one from you (no offense intended), and from what I have read so far, it certainly doesn't look like anyone else would. Your disclaimers are a little too over the top. Every one of our trusted dealers backs their product and is very helpful if/when there are customs issues.

    Just my 0.02

Well, from what I understand - most of the dealers are from CHINA or HK or something. I'm in Malaysia. And I honestly doubt that the watches are made locally - their most likely from a China factory. I do not know where that factory is. I just know a shop that I go to to buy my watches, like how you go buy a pair of jeans. So I doubt that intro thing might work and could backfire offending the dealers.

Its totally cool if you guys are not open and not wanting to trust me - I can understand that. Totally not offended. I was just asking for opinions, and that's what I got. Apart from some assumptions that this was a proposal for me to get on the sellers board <_< oh well - whats said is said.

So thank you all for your honest opinions.

For the time being, I'll just sit back, relax, and enjoy the forum.

  2. What's with the wrist shot with a plastic protector on?

I ask because I saw someone on the NYC subway wearing a panerai with the plastic on and I wanted to leap across the train and punch them :)

hahah.. i just took it outta the box and wore it whilst rushing to work. and i took that pic for the lower PR (3/4).

Oh well. an original costs alot so better to protect it :Jumpy:

  3. Latest Addition to my collection:

    PAM270

    - Working PR (Moves left to right when charging)

    - PR does not last for 10days (obviously)

    - Missing AM/PM indicator at Seconds@9 (Rep can't copy?)

    - Not able to adjust GMT  (GMT Hand meets hour hand at 12midnight)

    - Not Manual, Automatic like original

*Overall - a very beautiful watch.

  4. I think it looks fantastic :good: Definitely a watch I want to acquire in the future :)

    Thanks :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Hope you do so - its a great watch! Has a good weight to let you feel its presence, and its very practical for keeping track of multiple time zones!

  5. To paraphrase JFK: ask not what RWG can do for you....................

Why don't you provide details of where you are sourcing your watches from rather than trying to make a profit from a community you have made no contribution to?

    Operative word is community.

I think I did mention that I'm sourcing it from a local (Malaysia) shop and they don't do the 'interneting'

So what can I do for RWG? :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Like I said, I will make contributions. But is this all opinions are based on?

Anyway, Thanks for the input :drinks:

  6. in otherwords.. what is it about "No" you don't understand..??

Save yourself a lot of greif ... this is not a gold mine for profiteering... it will only bring you and the rest of the forum grief..

    Lani

Thanks Lani for your open opinion.

I am not pursuing it further and neither is forcing myself to sell anything here.

I'm just asking opinions and am totally grateful for the advice given. I never said I wanted to make millions of mulah from this; i'm just sharing some watches that i've managed to find that dealers can't even offer (check out the 5th&7th pic at My Rolex GMT). Of course making a little bit of service fees for running around town and dispatching, etc on top of the cost involved.

Anyways, seems like i've offended many RWGers and if so i'm sorry.

I'm always open for opinions. 8)

  7. Nice watch. I have one which has been my daily beater for about 12 months, has not missed a beat. I see that the rehaut engraving on this model is aligned correctly with the minute markers, unlike earlier models. it was quite an obvious flaw and I'm wondering if it has now been fixed. Is this how the watch came, if so, where did you get it ?

I got it locally, not from any dealers here.

Check out Dealing on the side

Apparently, nobody wants me to share the flaw fixes <_<

Thanks for your comments anyway. It is a beaut - and honestly, it made me a Rolex lover.

    Cheers :drinks:

  9. I'm sorry if you want to sell a watch this is the wrong forum, you will need to upgrade your account and sell it in the trade section.

Also it hardly matters how you look at it, if you intend to buy from a source to resell here that is regarded as dealing and to get a position on our board you need to make a submission to our team.

Any attempt at back door dealing will see your account banned.

    Ken

    Ken,

I'm just looking for opinions before i do start selling/dealing.

Of course i will upgrade my account and get the proper approvals before doing so - but i'm just seeking for opinions before doing so.

Please understand that i did post up this topic in full respect of the board, and did not directly put up a for sale topic in the General Section.

    Thanks.

  10. Being a dealer... Is probably not worth the hassle. Once you get into it, and have to deal with returns, replacements, customs, issues with sourcing replacement parts, grumpy customers, johnny law and the postal inspector knocking on your door etc. etc. your perspective may change :)

Probably sounds better in theory than the reality of it all...

    Dear ubiquitous,

    Thanks for your opinion.

And I totally agree with you, also considering grumpy customers closing/locking/banning up my Paypal account.

And this is why I wish to sell with reputable buyers on RWG. Like I have mentioned in my previous post - it'll be something like selling a 2nd hand item, only that it has not been worn and i can actually take orders for it.

I won't have a whole bunch of watches - but i'll have watches that are rare to find, even from dealers. Like the PAM 8day or 10day horizontal power reserve - dealers have a fixed/faux PR. But i can supply a functional PR (not 8 or 10days, but 48-52hrs)

Anyways, I would appreciate all comments and opinions :thumbsupsmileyanim:

    Cheers :drinks:

  11. @sur3wyn I'm sorry there are far too many negatives here, you basically admit to know nothing about the trade at all.

I point this out because you need to pass Admin team scrutiny before you will be allowed to sell on this board and with what you have put forward here I would have to say it would be a waste of time submitting an application.

I should also point out that it is an illegal trade so if you want to sell, especially from the US you better have a lot of things in place to make sure the authorities don't find you.

    Ken

    Dear Ken,

    Thanks for your opinion.

Tis true i know nothing about the trade and tis why i'm learning @ RWG :bounce:

Maybe i have made some unclear points:

1)I do not wish to be a dealer of watches, because I am not a dealer.

2)Think of it like i'm selling a 2nd owned watch that has not been worn (thus Brand New).

3)I have watches that are not made possible by the respectable dealers. (eg. Rolex engraving 'R' @ 9 and Rolex Logo Sandblasted @ 6 OR PAM 8Day or 10Day Working Horizontal Power Reserve)

4)I'm not in US of A and refer to #2 - I'm just selling my "unused brand new personal collections" and i'm not trying to sell it off as an original - so I don't see any illegal issues.

    5)Like I said. I'm New. I'm Here. I'm Learning.

    Cheers.

  12. Dear RWGers,

I've been a freeloading member learning about watches and the reps for awhile now. I'm noob, and i'm all for learning more about this hobby - i really have to thank the founders and its enthusiasts for the great information i've learnt and continue learning.

Anyhow, I've manage to find a very good source of good quality reps for reasonable prices (not online) - thus I would like to share my finds and make some money on the side. I do have a full time job and i do enjoy this hobby very much - unfortunately my salary does not cut it to enjoy this hobby even more.

Honestly because I have a full time job and i'm considering to earn some on the side, i will not be as responsive as full time dealers - but i will make sure the quality is good and delivery is as quick as can be. So I would really like YOUR opinions if this would work out with YOU.

I will only deal with and through RWG, ONLY. I also not be liable for any custom issues, as I truly do not know any rules/regulations in rep watch trading.

I am also trying to find out how I can withdraw cash from Paypal and the costs of courier (of course I would need a destination).

I am currently wearing a Rolex GMT Master II for about 2months now and it has been working very well - I even took it for a swim (2x) and its been working fine. Sapphire Glass, Ceremic Bezel (24 Clicks), WHS Asian Movement, Screw-in Crown, Rolex Logo Sandblasted into Glass @ 6, 2.5x Date Magnify, and has the CORRECT 'R' @ 9.

Please let me know what you would pay for this (new and shipped) so I can see if the price covers all costs and expenses.

Pics in following posts: currently uploading

*I also have a PAM 10Days with WORKING HORIZONTAL POWER RESERVE - I'll post up pics tomorrow.

    - To Admin/Mods: Truely sorry if i posted in wrong section, if you were be so kind to direct me to the right sub-cat. Thanks -

  13. John,

The subject of "fake people / fake watches" had been in various articles before but this is a recent article dealing with how the recession is effecting "Swiss Made" premiums. Luxury goods take a beating in these downturns, this being the steepest since the Great Depression and it has to have the luxury goods producers even more on the defensive as consumers opt for the cheaper brands and substitutes, often times replicas of all goods or homages of luxury goods, something you seem to be personally into at the moment. Its the reflection of "I want my purchase to count in these trying times" so "money is no object" attitudes have been flushed down the toilet.

sur3wyn: Thanks for the article link.

most welcome. just saw it in the daily papers and thought it was an interesting read to share :D

  14. Hey all,

just found an interesting feature article about reps, thought you'd guys might wanna just have a read. Enjoy:

    Sourced: The Star

URICH (Reuters) - "Fake watches are for fake people: buy authentic, buy real" -- that is the slogan of a campaign by the Swiss watch industry to fight booming demand for counterfeit goods during the global downturn.

A saleswoman shows off brands belonging to Swiss Swatch Group (L-R) Breguet, Longines, Omega and Glashuette in a watch and jewellery shop in Zurich, in this March 22, 2006 file photo. (REUTERS/Siggi Bucher/Files)

Switzerland knows that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery but wants to preserve its reputation for quality products, from watches to cheese, by setting strict rules on Swiss content and more rigorously tracking down fakes.

Defending "Swissness" will be an uphill battle beyond Swiss borders and promoting premium products is a risky strategy in a recession, but Switzerland wants to be ready for a rebound.

A search for "Swiss made" on the Internet returns dozens of websites offering replica watches at knock-down prices but also assurances that the mostly "made in China" fakes can match "made in Switzerland" quality.

"We're able to offer low prices, and you can be certain of the craftsmanship that goes into every watch," boasts one company based in Shenzen, China, offering a Rolex Santos "with correct markings and engravings, replicated to the smallest detail" for $449 instead of $952.

Exports of Swiss watches slumped by 25 percent in the first five months of the year to 5 billion Swiss francs ($4.6 billion), with 2.5 million fewer watches sold than a year ago.

The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry estimates that more than 40 million fake Swiss timepieces are made every year, generating profits of around $1 billion.

"People still like brands in an economic crisis but unfortunately if there is not enough money at their disposal, they buy counterfeits," said Yves Bugmann, head of the federation's legal division.

The threat from fake goods has spurred the Swiss government into action to try to protect its precious "Swiss-made" label and the white-on-red Swiss cross logo by setting strict rules on Swiss content and production.

Switzerland's squeaky-clean image has been dented by a global crackdown on its secretive banking industry, in particular its top bank UBS, accused of helping tax dodgers hide their money in offshore accounts.

However, the image of most Swiss products is untarnished. A global study conducted by advertising firm McCann Erickson and St Gallen University in 2008 showed Swiss products are perceived more favourably that those from any other country.

    QUALITY PREMIUM

"People are prepared to pay up to 20 percent more for certain Swiss consumer products and for luxury goods they are prepared to pay even more," said Felix Addor, deputy director general of the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property.

"But if they pay more and they are disappointed because the product has not the expected high quality it hurts the reputation of Switzerland."

Juergen Haeusler, chairman of the brand consultancy Interbrand for central and eastern Europe, said achievements by prominent Swiss such as tennis ace Roger Federer and prize-winning architects Peter Zumthor and Jacques Herzog have helped the country's image. "People think of Switzerland in terms of quality, precision," he said.

The leading Swiss brands in the Business Week/Interbrand top 100 include Nescafe coffee and Rolex watches, as well as UBS, although the bank dropped several places when it suffered record losses last year and came under a U.S. tax fraud investigation.

Some of the top brands such as Nestle do not actively market their Swiss roots, perhaps because they imply premium pricing, but a growing number do so, with more than 5,000 brands using the tag "Swiss" in 2006, up from 1,500 in 2000.

"'Made in Switzerland' is a valuable asset of the Swiss nation and helps Swiss industry to compete worldwide. More and more corporate brands like to associate with the image of Switzerland compared with 10 years ago," Haeusler said.

To defend the brand, the government is planning legislation that will demand that the Swiss share of production costs must be 60 percent for industrial goods to be labelled "Swiss".

The watch industry has proposed an even tougher requirement for itself, demanding an 80-percent share of total production costs in Switzerland, up from the current 50 percent, seen by many as too lax and allowing too much production elsewhere.

Under the new legislation, at least 80 percent of the raw materials for food products must be from Switzerland and most of the processing costs must occur in the country.

So Swiss cheese will not only have to be made in Switzerland but also must use largely from Swiss milk. The dried beef industry is up in arms because simply curing meat in Switzerland will no longer be enough. It will have to use Swiss meat, rather than Argentine.

Swiss chocolate makers such as Lindt need not worry as the legislation foresees exceptions for products such as cocoa that are not sourced locally and for raw materials that are temporarily not available, for example because of poor harvests.

    NO BRAND MANAGER

Sven Reinecke, marketing professor at St Gallen university, said it would be hard to enforce the new rules on what is allowed to be called "Swiss-made" globally, but it was important to try, especially for luxury industries such as watchmaking.

"It is difficult to defend the brand all over the world. You do not have a brand manager for Swissness so everybody can use it. But for a premium brand you need to show it is quality so it is necessary to define it," he said.

Bugmann of the watch industry federation said the recession was already making China less cooperative in pursuing counterfeiters.

Some might question the wisdom of pushing the premium quality of Swiss products when consumers are trading down, hurting expensive watch brands Swatch Group and Richemont as well as premium chocolatiers such as Lindt.

Interbrand's Haeusler disagrees: "Marketing is often the opposite of what seems to be reasonable.

"Even if we can't have premium, we still aspire to have premium. I would not just begin to communicate the image in a different way just because of a temporary crisis."

Kepler Capital Markets analyst Jon Cox said promoting the Swiss brand would set the country up well for a recovery.

"The whole trend towards premium products will go on even if it is a trend towards less conspicuous consumption," he said.

Experts foresee little lasting damage from attacks on banking secrecy, noting that a Nazi gold scandal in the late 1990s over the emptying of Jewish accounts with Swiss banks did not have a lasting effect on the country's image.

"Country brands are big ships that don't change course quickly," said Addor from the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property. "A Swiss watch is a high quality watch. It has nothing to do with whether or not Swiss banks have done something good or bad."

    Thanks guys.

  16. Hey Guys,

So i've read up alot about the GMT movements on the GMT Master II, and finally deciding to get a WCH movement.

However i'm stuck with 2 choices:

    http://www.jpc8118.com/000rlgt01003-ssyg-a...and-p-5422.html

    or

    http://www.jpc8118.com/rlgph10005-hunter-m...iss-p-6145.html

Also noticed same pictures and such on http://www.tt88time.com/index.php?main_pag...roducts_id=3428

I really like the anniversary edition because of the gold; however the full PVD looks really nice.

Anniversary is cheaper by USD$100; also because its asian movement.

So i would like some opinions from members, as i have not seen one review on either the PVD or anniversary GMT II.

    Cheers.

  17. Some more info on Moon Phases off the site: (By the way, I have no affiliation with the site or trying to promote in any manner - just sharing info.)

Brief Explanation of the Moon Phases

The phases of the moon are caused by the relative positions of the earth, sun, and moon. The moon goes around the earth in 27.3 days, or 27 days 7 hours 43 minutes, on average. This measurement is relative to the stars and is called the sidereal period or orbital period. However, because of the earth's motion around the sun, a complete moon cycle (New Moon to New Moon) appears to earthbound observers to take a couple of days longer: 29.5305882 days to be exact. This number is called the synodic period or "lunation", and is relative to the sun.

The sun always illuminates the half of the moon facing the sun (except during lunar eclipses, when the moon passes thru the earth's shadow). When the sun and moon are on opposite sides of the earth, the moon appears "full" to us, a bright, round disk. When the moon is between the earth and the sun, it appears dark, a "new" moon. In between, the moon's illuminated surface appears to grow (wax) to full, then decreases (wanes) to the next new moon.

The edge of the shadow (the terminator) is always curved, being an oblique view of a circle, giving the moon its familiar crescent shape. Because the "horns" of the moon at the ends of the crescent are always facing away from the setting or rising sun, they always point upward in the sky. It is fun to watch for paintings and pictures which show an "impossible moon" with the horns pointed downwards.

(some of above information courtesy of NASA http://liftoff.msfc.nasa.gov)

  18. Hi Guys,

I was searching around the forum on this as I wanted to set the current moon phase on my watch. Couldn't find any info, so I googled around.

Found this site and thought it might be helpful for those who would want to set the current moon phase. (instead of looking up at the moon at night trying to figure out its half-full or half-gone, haha)

    http://www.calculatorcat.com/moon_phases/phasenow.php

I didn't really know where to put this info, but if its against any R&R or anyone feel offended by it (?) MODS and ADMINS please feel free to remove/move it to suitable areas.

Just thought I'd share some info :thumbsupsmileyanim:
