  1. You should get a new CP as well. ;)

I wouldn't go with DSN's 005 dial....it has quite a few flaws...logo on it is way to close to "Panerai" and the numerals look like they were filled on a sandwich dial to make it into a sausage dial.

Do you know where (or from whom) I could get a nice 005 dial (or a CP as a matter of fact)? Because they all seem to have similar faults.

  2. Just received my Luminor Base 005 the other day and decided to share some pics with all of you.

I lost the USB cable for my DSR so I had to use a handycam. The pictures turned out crap, but since they're my first try I hope you won't mind.

The watch actually looks really awesome in real life, especially the crown guard, unlike on the pics and except for the damn logo on the dial.

It features the following mods (i suppose):

    - CG fitted to case

    - nice n'thick crown

    - lever filed to fit crown exactly

    - CGpin flattened and polished

    - CG refinished for brushed look (you wouldn't notice normally, just on the pics ...)

    - Hotglue mod done by me

The next thing I want to do with it is get a DSN dial with the correct logo and stick it on a gen brown calf strap. What else is there I could change? I'm in a modding frenzy! :bounce:

    thanks, tim

  3. I went to see Shaun today here in London (will only be back in germany on saturday, which is why I couldn't just refuse the package) and he told me that the crown , which is really nice and thick, is "****ed", meaning that the button turns without turning the stem. He managed to tighten it, but he said he wasn't sure how long it would last.

At least it's running now and one thing's for sure: It's a terrific watch, except for the damned logo which is quite unbelievable! If they can do everything else the way they do it, why can't they just print the damn logo strait? Is anybody aware of a good 005 dial with a good logo?

Thanks for the help guys, Tim

  4. Hi guys, I just received my brandnew PAM005 from a member over at RG.

The watch is beautiful (except for the logo on the dial) and especially the CG is a work of art.

Everything fine so far, but then I tried to wind the watch. It works, but it winds while clicking in irregular periods of time. So it takes me a while to get it running. "Phew", at least it runs!

But how on earth do I set the time?

Since this is my first PAM rep, I wasn't sure how to, since the crown wasn't able to be pulled out. By now I fear something might be wrong :(

So, in an act of bravery, I grasp my screwdriver and unscrew the beautiful crownguard. Still nothing. Only when I pull back the crown with a little force can I set the time and even then only sometimes.

In conclusion it seems to me that the stem (or the crown??) might be loose and that I therefore can neither wind the watch properly, nor set time.

Can someone help me fix this, without spending too much more money? (I can not return the watch, it's a private seller and I don't want any further risk)

By the way: Everything that could go wrong with this watch went wrong. For some mysterious reason the guy who sent the watch wrote 500$ on the customs form. (I don't know where he gets the figure from, I never even paid 500$), so customs decides to tax me ... 50POUNDS of VAT!! (80$) And since I didn't want to risk it to go back to asia and I was changing my adress end of the week, I had to accept the parcel :(

And now it's BROKEN! Please tell me that not all PAM reps are like that!

    Cheers, Tim

  5. Hey guys, just a quick question:

Are the dials and cases of the base Panerai models (like the 003a and the 005) interchangable? So if I stick a 003 dial in a 005, would it be in the right case? (I know that the crownguard should be polished and that the caseback will probably have the wrong engravings but otherwise?)

Besides that does DSN sell dials seperatly?

    Thanks in advance, Tim

  6. Hello Panerai experts,

my plan is to acquire (and later modify) a Panerai rep to make it look like the gen for the average person.

The first question is, which model is the ideal base? (I would like to order from eurotimez, as they ship from the UK to avoid problems with german customs)

Should I start with the 001B

or the 111E and later add the 001B caseback?

After that I will have to:

    -have it relumed

    -swap the crown

    -do some sort of pinfix?

    -buy a nice strap

Is that about it? (What would that cost me in total and where should I have it done in Germany?)

    Thanks in advance, warbird
