  1. I'll never figure out how when I purchase something from China, I get 'free' shipping or $20 expedited. Then, when I try to ship something to China, it costs me $40.

I'm out $60 from a recent purchase/return because I was required to send it back by registered mail. Isn't EMS from China the same as USPS registered mail? They both have barely functioning tracking...

Anyhow, anyone else have similar experiences where you thought to yourself, "I should just keep the damn thing even though I'll never use it?" Now I'm praying that I get my refund if the package makes it through customs.

  2. Working with KB from down unda, and seeing Upland's story (Story Link) on a Switch watch found encased in a Ming Dynasty tomb by archeologists reminded me of this fantastic podcast that I'm addicted to.

It's called Mysterious Universe, and it's produced by two Aussies who know how to put out a top quality product. Their show focuses on topics such as: UFOs, cryptozoology, paranormal, and fringe science. They have free weekly episodes that are one to two hours long. Full disclosure: I actually pay money to subscribe to their +Plus podcasts, it's that freakin' good. I mean -- me, I would download every bootlegable item in the universe if I had the bandwidth, but I pay these guys hard earned money to keep it going.

I have nothing to do with these guys, so I'm not trying to sell a product. I just encourage you to download their free shows and give it a shot. You won't be dissapointed, unless you're a hard-ass skeptic, then you'll feel frustrated why people listen to that garbage.

Check out their forums too: http://mysteriousuniverse.org

Enjoy and let me know what you think!

  3. Hi All,

I know this is a total n00b post, and I'll probably be flamed, deleted or moved, so I apologize in advance for my ignorance.

I was wondering if there is a condensed list of websites for trusted dealers. I only buy one or two reps a year, and every time I pull up a bookmark of a dealer that I purchased from before, it's 404. Trying to Google brings up a crapshoot of malware loader sites and scam rep dealers. I've looked through RWG, but I usually hit hundreds of posts with reviews before stumbling upon the occassional links. By the time I hit the links, they're already dead and gone.

So, is there a constantly updated list of dealers front and center of a single pinned post? I fully take responsibility for not reading the reviews and buying a POS, but I just want to start shopping!

    Thanks!

  4. Here are the photos. super-macro brings out all the bad details... I also agree with your assumption that this was less than top quality. The laser-etched crown at 6 is missing; and you guys can probably pick out way too many more flaws to make this a non-worthwhile project.

  5. One of my friends got me a Rolex Daytona 2008 rep as a gift while on business in HK. As he was about to give it to me, he was standing on the wing of his private plane, and accidentally dropped it from a height of about nine feet. Neither one of us could catch it on time, and it is now a fantastic paperweight. The pain of that moment will haunt me for a long time, and I'm sure I'll need a lot of psychological treatment to forget it. I'm sure this thing set him back a couple hundred dollars too, but he never asked for any money. I'd like to get it repaired as a thank you-you didn't just waste $500...

I don't know what movement it has, but I assume this is top-of-the-line. The watch weight is much heavier than the other Daytona I own, so I assume this is as close to the real deal as possible. I took it to my guy at Ocean Time in Encinitas (no problem working on reps if you're in the area), and he said it would cost more to fix than the watch is worth.

Anyone know of a reputable clockwork hobbyist who likes to take on challenging projects just for the experience?
