Hey everyone, a new member here, just wanna share and contribute...
Here is a gen 5513 that my father gave me.
For the experts here, what can you tell me you see on this watch? It has a 6mil serial, and according to Bob Ridley, the hands and dial does not match and also the dial has been changed to a modern one.
it looks like it's a nice clean 5513, and early 80s if it's a 6m, likely unpolished or very gently polished just once in the past. the insert was also replaced. the non-matching hands are not an issue - they weren't made in the same place/time as the dial and the tritium would of course look mismatched.
wear it some more after service. don't think too much about putting it back to how it left the factory. parts are too expensive... and this was how your dad handed it to you.
if you can't quite stomach the idea of a rep bracelet, consider getting just gen end links and/or clasp to swap into a good rep bracelet. the old style/hollow mid link bracelets were all made in normal (non 904) steel at the rolex factory anyway, and with those 2 parts in, should look kosher enough... (for me anyway)
bear in mind though, gen end links and clasp could make up about 1/3 to half the cost of a wholly gen bracelet...
Guys could you authenticate 5512 case and caseback

3 things jumped out at me when i examined the photos for wear before i considered whether or not to look at the engravings, etc...
the rear of the case where it meets the case back is pristine.
the inner lug holes have no wear.
the rear of lugs have superficial wear.
does not add up to the wear located else where on the case.
