  1. I forgot to give you the links! Mail forwarding alternative 1 Mail forwarding alternative 2 For Norwegians and Swedes, I recommend this service: Service for Norway/Sweden
  2. Just in case none of our american friends come through for you, ajoesmith; Have you considered a mail forwarding service? They are handy if you shop on ebay and buy from sellers unwilling to ship to your country. I use one for US -> Norway, and it works great. My largest shipment so far was 34kgs. Their shipping prices are reasonable compared to a direct shipment. There are equivalents for US -> Australia. You basically sign up on their site and they give you a personal american address that you give the ebay seller. You book a shipment with the forwarding company, and when they receive it, they forward it to your Australian address. Usually they handle eventual taxes and customs, and you get a bill in the mail for it. ..sorry if I am telling you things you already know. -Ape-
  3. The only thing I think looks weird is the 9 set like that.. But I guess that would follow normally after the 3 is set like that too. ..but then again.. I can't see anything weird about ubiquitous' Regatta either.
  4. You've had me thinking about this watch all day.. and now I know they are obtainable I want one even more! --and btw you can hide your age.
  5. I'm no expert here, but I do not think that submersible would fool anyone slightly in the know.. I guess the cheap ones never do. The crown is what I always look at first on a Panerai like that. A better looking one: PAM 024 And the 086, not as nice as the Radiomir.. I think it's the shiny subdial @ 9 that's putting me off these watches. I'm no fan of cyclopses either, but once again this all comes down to personal preferance. But of the 4, I'd say mini-fiddy first, 086 second.. And you're still not wanting the 111h?
  6. I assume you are asking if it will pass the scrutinous eye of a Panerai semi-expert? It most likely wont.. But if you're asking if it looks good enough to be called a pretty watch, I'll have to say that I personally think the Radiomir looks 100% better than the 124. I would without a doubt wait for the watch! Hell ..I'll even buy it from you for $110 if you don't like it. ..I think. My first Pam was the 111h and even though I love it, I just about never wear it. But I do know I'll never get rid of it. Enjoy whatever choice you make.. this is all part of the fun.
  7. When you take the average growth of norwegians in terms of height the last 100 years, and extrapolate backwards to the great battle of Stiklestad in 1030 AD, where our noble king Olav Haraldsson died, you'll find the people on the battlefield that day were about the size of a present day 4 year old boy..
  8. Very nice, Chief! Can't go wrong with that combination. And you and Pugwash have convinced me, I will get a Bond strap from timefactors.com, and some kind of sub-looking watch.
  9. Oh I know there are many who sell them.. but the particular scam artist I'm talking about did so on ebay! I believe he was a german/danish man. The norwegian government is heavily investing in China too.
  10. "It really depends on where you are and what your doing..... I mean, say you crash a plane at the top of a huge mountain in Nepal. Do you want to survive with a well trained Mossad dude from sunny Israel? ..or a nepalese Gurkha who doesn't know a carrot from a kalashnikov but can hypnotize a mountain goat at 50 yards and feed a family of 4 for 8 years on berries?"
  11. I think Mr Pugwash meant to imply americans brought it to the not so big screen. ..not that they were the first to stick it there. We all know the greek invented sex.. ..but the italians introduced women into it.
  12. That's a beautiful piece, Dani! How about a Ulysse Nardin, Gran? Maxi Marine Chronometer.. 41mm I think. Power Reserve at 12. They also come on SS bracelets.
  13. That's a beautiful chronograph! ..I still don't like titanium watches though.. They feel so flimsy! Gimme weight! "Big bottom, big bottom Talk about mud flaps, my girl's got 'em Big bottom drive me out of my mind How could I leave this behind?"
  14. Sorry to hear of your accident, Sash! May it heal well. PS: Remind me to never become a dealer or a modder of replica watches.. You guys always get sick or have some kinda accident!
  15. I have my plan ready, 2005SUB! I'm building a garage next to my house and I'll soundproof the loft a little.. Set up all my guitars and amps, buy a drum kit and invite the guys over for screaming jams. If you ever find yourself in Norway 'round my parts, drop by and we'll set up a keyboard and play JUMP!
  16. haha.. I will not pass judgement, only point to the first line in kenberg's signature.
  17. Yes.. A replica watch forum.. ..with a lot of off-topic content for our eclectic members ..some of it interesting. Is this a trick question?
  18. Model: Chrono Quartz Size: 42mm Seller: Andrew Rain: Yes, no leaks or mist Shower: Yes, no leaks or mist Pool/Ocean 3 meter/10 feet: Yes The back only tightened up with thumb force. I wear this at sea, and it's been dunked a lot! Takes bangs and slams like a prize fighter. Guess that's an advantage with the quartz.
  19. Haha! 2005SUB, Have you ever heard the expression "As confused as a fart in a wicker chair."? That would be me in NYC. I'm small town even for a small town. Grew up on an island with 70-80 people, all very closely related.. Cancel the banjos though, we had sense enough to leave the island to find women. But seriously, I appreciate the offer, options in life keeps a man happy. Some of the appeal in my work is the time off.. 6-7 months a year to do exactly what you want. Not many jobs can offer that. @ kasigi, No problem, good luck and I hope to see you out there, mate. @kenberg, ah yes, the old days.. ..I like to imagine them with plenty of chances to distinguish yourself.. But I guess we have just as many these days. I too come from a long line of sailors and fishermen. Actually I think ALL the men on both sides of my family have been working at sea one time or another. So I guess I didn't have much of a choice. ..during the first two years of WWII my grandfather smuggled weapons from Scotland and Shetland to the norwegian resistance, and people back the other way.. Earned him three years until the end of the war in Sachsenhausen concentration camp when the nazis caught them. Funny thing, if you can call it that, was that they were looking for his father-in-law, but their names were so similar that they took the wrong guy. He never once tried to get off! ..doing three years for your father-in-law in nazi hell.. THAT takes a man.
  20. Oh yeah, money is good. But we're all painfully aware that things might change. There's always been good stretches and bad stretches in fishing the north sea. ..But research is better these days, so our quotas are set quite low based on fish population estimates. I can't say it's not dangerous, but it's not scary at all after you've been on the boat a few days. I've been on smaller 70ft vessels that I didn't trust, and that was hell on earth.. Always waiting for that little something to go wrong, listening for sounds and movements that shouldn't be there. All in all, it doesn't matter which boat/ship/tub you're on, the best thing about being a sailor is coming home. I'm wearing my Quartz Planet Ocean mostly, and it's holding up famously, even though it's been ducked in saltwater more times than I can remember. My Seamaster GMT has lost its pearl, shine and an hour marker.. But it's still ticking. I also brought a PAM 111h and my Timex Magnum Indiglo! ..gotta have something nice when you go ashore to meet the female townsfolk.
  21. Thanks 2005SUB and Kenberg! I sold two pics to a norwegian fisheries newspaper this spring, of a boat run aground. It pays, but it's not going to make me rich. The media here (and elsewhere I suspect) have set freelance fees they give you for pictures, and they thus buy the right to use it so and so many times. In february it was $220 for a single picture, a bit more if it's used on a front page. @ kasigi Jobs on pelagic trawlers/purse seiners don't grow on trees, they pay fairly well, so people usually stick with it for a long time. And with boats being fewer, larger, and more effective with smaller crews there are less jobs. Your best chance is if you're a certified engineer like I am. I got my job through my brother, who is a chief engineer on the boat I am on. And that's usually how it is, you have to know someone. If you're serious and willing enough, you should try contacting the large scottish and irish companies like Lunar Fishing Co. Ltd, Serene Fishing Company Ltd, Doyle Fishing Company Ltd, Taymass Ltd., Wiseman Fishing Ltd., Killybegs Fishing Enterprises ...and I am sure there are a few dozen others. They know more about your chances than I do. It's a good deal mostly, we work 5 weeks and have 5 weeks off. And summers and december we don't work at all normally. Still we make a good wage, and it's never (hah) boring.
