Hi everyone... Its been a long time since i have been active on boards. Just installed tapatalk on ipad so might be on more often. I am currently hunting for a 1680/8 and will sell off my 1680. I have one question though, i have seen some pictures of the 1680/8 with superdome crystal. I think it is the tropic 19 superdome? Appreciate some input from our WIS. I am checking vintagerolexforum daily to see if any come available, missed out on one a month ago.
Hey... I have been out of touch from RWG for a while... came back to visit and suddenly saw some pics of skeleton watches and just remembered that i used to have a dream to build my very own skeleton watch!
I remember once there was this fellow RWGer that was building custom skeleton watches but I cant remember his name or his website... can anyone point me in the correct direction? Or recommend me some nice skeleton watches?
I don't want a rep... more of a custom unbranded watch...
Thanks in advance!!!
I found them on ebay thanks... next question would be... should i go for RAF 2 piece or regular NATO with the piece behind the watch head??? I read somewhere that the standard NATO straps with the wraparound piece behind the watch head can scratch the case back of the watch... is this true? I just got myself a red 1680 and would not want to scratch the case back bcos of the strap!!!
Also to confirm it is 20mm size strap for the Rolex?
What is the difference of the Zulu strap again?
I was going to purchase some NATO straps from MARATAC but noticed on their site they do not post international... are there an other sites I can get MARATAC straps from or should I go with another brand?
Yes... I did some searching on the net last few days and decided i am an idiot...
Probably makes more sense to get a gen... Missed out on one in timezone 1680 white sub in very good condition usd5,600.
Also keeping an eye out for red 1680 in good condition around 8500...
Ok..... So i have been trying to make up my mind on what gen watch to buy as a treat for myself after all these years of hard work. This will be my first gen watch (apart from my first tag heuer) and therefore i am thinking hard which to buy. I have a problem with making choices when buying things... I want everything!
First i was looking at a white dial daytona 116520, then the GMT II ceramic... Then i thought i would get a gen vintage 1680... But i also like the 1665... Aaaarrggghhh...
Then yesterday a light shone... I saw the new explorer2 42mm and it looks very nice!
So i decided to get the gen explorer2 42mm... AND build myself 2 frankens... 1680 and 1665! I prefer the new look and not vintage look of the watch (sorry dont flame me) so i guess building is better choice... So here is what i plan for my builds:
1680 red sub
- yuki case
- gen dial
- gen 1570
- gen crown and tube
- gen tropic 127
- gen fat font bezel insert
- gen 93150 bracelet with 580 endlinks
1665 great white
- as above but with tropic 39 superdome and not fat font bezel
Any comments and tips on sourcing the parts? I will be hunting on ebay and vrf... If anyone has parts pls PM me... I will also need the help of a modder from the board to put them all together... I have been away for so long i have to do a lotof homework to see who is still around!
I am choosing to use the modern 93150 bracelets as i heard they are more solid and comfortable for wearing... Would appreciate feedback from experienced ppl out there.
Thanks!
By the way will there be ppl selling reps as gens on VRF? I would never be able to tell... Been considering buying fully modded franken 1680 or 1665 with gen movt as well...
Have come across a white letter 1680 for usd5,200 but it comes without bracelet, just leather strap. Tempted to getit, but i prefer the red letter. I see red 1680's go for around 10k on the bay. Is quite a bitmore to pay... Not sure if i shld...also saw a whiteletter 1665 for usd10,800 at mqwatches - is he reliable?
Myfriend wants to get a milsub but they are a lot more expensive! Any good frankens out there for sale?anyone?
Havent been wearing it very often, took it out the other day and gave it a good winding and wore it but found that it stops even when the PR is at 20 plus hours... Give it a shake then it starts again only to stop again after a while. If i wind again to full it runs again, seems like when it reaches 20 plus reserve it will stop...
Can anyone help? Dont know where to service it as its a tourbillon so i wouldnt take it to just any watchsmith.
I have come across a second hand Pam 187 for sale at USD9,000/-, which after some searching on the internet seems to be a good buy. I have seen them go from $11,000 to $12,000 second hand. Should I buy it purely for investment? The reason is because it is 47mm and would be too big for my wrist... so I was thinking to buy and keep it for a while before selling it again for a profit to fund other purchases.
I am not very familiar with trading watches or the value of different watches so would appreciate any insight or advice from fellow forum members.
