  1. You did really well, some of those parts were a bargain!

Yeah...I felt like the case set, as well as the original purchase, was a little too much. Especially since the original purchase only had an A7750 in it.

Gen dial was a nice deal.  I see it has some character to it.

Gen springbars are $7? I thought someone was selling it for $50 or so.

Yeah, that "character" definitely caused a lower price.

Wow, at 50, there is no way I would have gotten gen springbars...after all, non-gen springbars will hold up just as well, and there is probably no way to tell that the springbar is non-IWC without a very close inspection.

  2. how much entire build set you back?

    Original purchase - €385

    GEN Dial - USD100

    GEN Handset - USD195

    GEN crown & tube - €200

GEN case, caseback, pushers- ~€490 - I paid €490 for the case set, including crystal and caseback. The crystal and caseback went towards another build. The crystal IMO is probably the biggest cost, so I'd say this was probably closer to 300 than 500/

TAKA crystal, AR'd by Dominico - Came with original purchase

TWB alligator strap - Came with original purchase

    GEN IWC 21mM springbars - USD7

Either Rep or GEN IWC buckle - Came with original purchase

Swis ETA Valjoux movement - Original came with A7750. Harvested from another rep (where I swapped in a gen movement)

ETA Day and Datewheels - Same as above

Assembly, with speedy G, cost me $70, since I waited to do everything at once.

  3. Haven't seen too many of these:

    GEN Dial

    GEN Handset
    GEN crown & tube

    GEN case, caseback, pushers

    TAKA crystal, AR'd by Dominico

    TWB alligator strap

    GEN IWC 21mM springbars

Either Rep or GEN IWC buckle

    Swis ETA Valjoux movement

    ETA Day and Datewheels

Hardest thing was acquiring the dial and the handset.

  4. I would definitely recommend against applying any sudden impacts to the watch. That is just as likely to cause more serious issues than it is to solve the problem.

Assuming the watch is not magnetized, most likely 1 of the loops of the hairspring are caught on an adjacent wheel (center wheel), which shortens its functional length & causes the balance wheel (& watch) to run faster. If you remove the caseback & inspect the hairspring closely (with a loop or magnifying glass), you will probably see where it is hanging up.

While I like this advice, the force I applied was light enough that if the watch couldn't handle it (Valjoux's native shock absorption), I would have a whole other problem.

  5. Yes, one loop of the main spring could be stuck to the adjacent loop, due to an impact during shipping. A swift slap in the palm is prescribed for this condition.

Haha. I was going to wait a little longer to confirm, but I actually saw this suggestion on another forum regarding a Seiko watch. I tried it (two slaps), and it looks like it worked! At least, 25 minutes in the watch is keeping great time...

  6. Well it could be alot of things, It could still be magnitized, or it could be the mainspring not being lubercated correctly, or you could just be looking at the time incorrectly and thinking its gaining alot of time lol jk.

Also you might want to talk to this "reputable merchant" about why its doing this. Was it fine right after you got it back? and if so when did it start?

It is unlikely to be magnetized; I did the compass test. I'm wondering if the mainspring got stuck somehow.

I literally got the watch yesterday, set the time, put the watch on a winder, and realized the issue later in the night.

The "reputable merchant" is one who is quite well-known around these parts. He does business on both RWI and Repgeek; I don't want to mention the name because

    1) Could be a completely minor issue

    2) I bet he'd be willing to fix it free of chrage

    3) I don't want to uncessarily besmirch his reputation.

  7. I recently got my IWC spitfire back from a very reputable merchant. He was swapping out the movement for me (A7750 to Valjoux). He also regulated the movement.

However, now that I have it, the watch is gaining a ton of time. Like, an hour/day. The watch isn't magentized; I am not sure what is happening. Could it be caused by the fact that the watch needs to be fully wound?

I'm a little puzzled because this watch came straight from repair and was regulated, so it isn't like it was caused by some kind of damage.

    Thanks for any advice,

    rolexian

  8. Gen 3717 makes normal ticking noise (like all automatics). The other day it was also making a constant slight "bell-like" noise in the background of the ticking. The sound kept going; when I checked again ~20 minutes later only the regular ticking noise remained.

I might have lightly banged the head of the watch against something, so I am concerned that I might have caused damage, even though the alien sound is now gone.

  9. I concur with MD2020. Sounds like a faux chrono 21j model of some sort. Perhaps a constellation double eagle?

If it is, then it is a really bad fake. The dial on this watch has roman numerals; the gen has em on the bezel...

But I suppose not all replicas are of such high quality....

  10. It is an Omega watch; description:

Black dial with roman numerals. No "co-axial" statement on dial; statement present on back of case. The watch is chronograph-ish. There is a sweeping seconds hands; there are 3 subdials at the usual positions as well. The 3' and 9' positions have the day and date; not too sure what the 6' is. The pushers are flat, not rounded, and are used to set the day and date.
