  1. Hi Mate , Great subs!!! Regarding stole...  :)  just look carefully on page - 1 Big Dazza post... He is Real Tudor and watches Guru !!! So questions of intelectual property you could discuss directly with him  :inverted:  Anyway my respect to all members who discuss this topic and especially Aeromatic  :1a: Great discussion!!!! Cool Tudors!!!!

Dear sir...dazza is really BIG! ;)  We all should be inspired by great makers n try to reach them. Enioy n good heath to all

  2. Does anyone think that tudor deserves its own section? tudor is getting big on this forum more and more tudor builds are taking up space on the rolex section

Tudor as we all know has a very colourful past and collectors no longer view these tudors as a cheaper rolex prices have been creeping up to rolex prices take the price of tudor black bay and pelagos and the vintage models

post your favorite tudor Gen ,franken, rep and fantasy tudor !

My dearest friend aero...i wouldn't agree less n u have my YES  4 a new section about tudors. This brand should b separated from rolex area just because...n that's my humble opinion...the use of eta movements on most fine projects is much closer to the gen tudor itself. Here r my fantasy tuds saying hello to all. Fantasy yes, but fantastic on t wrist.Hey stanislas...does this no guard remind u of something? I wonder who stole who's idea for a ceramic bezel insert...LOL :Jumpy:  Believe me man...this project was finished 4 months ago n i saw your's just minutes ago...wow! ...great work :clap3:

  3. Thanks George loiz! im thinking about getting a folded bracelet and a yuki crown n tube so we need some work on the crown guards question is do we make them pointed crown guards or try to replicate the gen guards there should be enough metal on there as the gens guards are shorter

anyway i was out today in the sun the ageing looks authentic in the light but indoors it looks in new condition which i like

the only realy negative comment i have had so far was my wife she compared my watch to a donkeys rear end! :bangin:

she saw me ageing the case and asked why dont you just tie it to your pickup truck and drive up the mountains! Nice Real Nice! :pardon:

Ahahahahahahahaha.....haha :Jumpy:your ol lady apparently has a natural taste of humour or...she knows u very well :whistling:...but she is not far from t truth. Imagine that poor watch how will look like after a mile of dragging but go no further.Just roll over it a couple of times :bicycle: n see what turns out  Oh...don't leave t movement in :nono:...u ll go like this

Thanks 4 your reference 2 my efforts 4 building this project...don't forget man...i'm always here 4 u. Being out 4 too long, but always interested on other members projects...i must say that many guys out there r real masters of t kind! BRAVO!!! :good::victory: Anyway...i ll try 2 put some of my own project pics in due time. Cheers 2 all

  6. Im wearing this today after vintaging the bezel insert nothing extreme! just to take off that factory black colour! it has given the insert a slight blue tint, the yuki insert i faded went to a green tint! in fact i have owned this watch for over 5 years and that insert never faded and still looked as new, even though in cyprus we have sun almost all year round!

this is a real frankenstine watch! backcase is marked 5512 the case is marked 1665 home made 6mm crystal cut similar to the tropic 19 with homemade retaining ring, and a comex "thicker" bezel fitted! the strap does not have a divers extension bought that from a car boot sale! oh and it has a 2873 slow beat eta ! this is my beater! could do with a relume though!

Wow man...now,that's a tool watch and it came right out of the blue just by changing that bezel.I know...the rest was just bench work but without this change the watch would have stayed unfinished. Great work! :victory:

  7. Some more photos super customised vintage based lastest update! george loiz made crystals

post-27094-12680831761_thumb.jpgpost-27094-126808324266_thumb.jpgpost-27094-126808328862_thumb.jpgpost-27094-126808340055_thumb.jpgpost-27094-126808347032_thumb.jpggeorge loiz watch on the left 7mm thick crystal and my 5512 6mm thick tropic 19 stylepost-27094-126808355766_thumb.jpgpost-27094-126808361471_thumb.jpgpost-27094-126808366529_thumb.jpgpost-27094-126808371998_thumb.jpgpost-27094-126808379432_thumb.jpg

Well i guess we both love tall crystals george loiz has a stainless steel crystal retaining ring and mine has a nylon one

the crystal on the 5512 sub was "donated" by our local bus company from a bus stop canopy! no we dident vandalize it they replaced it and the builders left the broken window at the scene!!!

i would like too thank george loiz for working many hours on my watches without pay!!!!what a guy! aeromatic!

Great pics...one on top of t other is t best showing t thickness of each one. That lence in front of camera is a saviour. My thanks to the bus company too, that has been so altruistic.Who knows...mabe someday they 'll donate a whole bus n make a LABORGINI out of it :drive1:

  8. After visiting a mobile roadshow of antique watches and seeing some great looking rolex subs with yellow patina tinted crystals

i started thinking of ways to age/yellow an acrylic crystal to fit to one of my "aged" rolex subs the problem with natural (sun) yellowing of the crystal is that apart from taking too long, this usually makes the crystal crack and brittle which will affect water resistance of the watch, so i took the idea used to age a dial by using varnish.

I decided to experiment on a spare crystal ,because the crystal needs to be clear enough to be able to see the dial i used a varnish spray with a tinting property in this case i used colorworks (teak) wood varnish spray here are some photos showing my results!

post-27094-126807693688_thumb.jpgThis is the spray varnish teak stain!

post-27094-126807709895_thumb.jpgone of the crystal has been varnished applied under the crystal i did two passes only at a distance about 18cm

post-27094-126807723924_thumb.jpgpost-27094-12680773122_thumb.jpgthis shows the yellow effect well

post-27094-126807742806_thumb.jpgpost-27094-126807759956_thumb.jpgpost-27094-126807776855_thumb.jpghere is one clear and one varnished post-27094-12680778712_thumb.jpgpost-27094-126807796444_thumb.jpgthe crystal is not fitted to the case but layed on top of the existing crystal this makes the dial look unclear post-27094-126807816314_thumb.jpgpost-27094-126807827376_thumb.jpgpost-27094-126807827376_thumb.jpgpost-27094-126807835727_thumb.jpg like i said this is an experiment i will try a lighter shade next (pine) its looks much more authentic than what is seen in the photos and if you make a mistake you can wipe off the varnish before it dries and try again i found that two passes of spray were needed three was to dark you need to apply light passes so that looking at the dial it appears clearer and looks darker when viewed at an angle!

Yes my friend...u r right about cracking glass when left under t sun for too long. It's a very good experiment...carry on

  9. Super project...im sure AEROMATIC loves it already.Have u ever thought of installing a bezel like the 6538 JB model but thick,say...5mm hight...no matter if u break the replicating rules...just to see what comes out.Im sure that it will look superb.By looking at it,u think that's something's missing, like the bezel fell off.Anyway...great job! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  10. Well im not in a contest here! but george loiz just finished replacing my 1665 comex sub i dident like the superdome that came with this watch, to much distortion, so he cut me a new crystal 5mm thick (flat)with beveled edge and made a new stainless steel crystal retaining ring!

    post-27094-126729785643_thumb.jpg post-27094-126729796061_thumb.jpg

Hey AEROMATIC...thanks a 1.000.000 for posting my work on your loving COMEX.Oh yes!...i saw that love on your face :bow_arrow: Great pics especialy of t pearl closeup that looks like a prefried egg...great..............n don't forget...the one who drowns, wearing a rolly, knows the exact time of his death.By t way...how's your back? :wheelchair: my arm is still killing me

  11. I definitely think it'll be an interesting project, but, I suspect it might be quite a long-term one ;)

Fooling ourselves is all part of the fun :D (Not as much fun as custom-building watches, of course :victory: ) When I was younger, I never felt like a watch was 'my watch' until it had a scratch on the crystal, now, I've just come to appreciate the vintage aesthetic over factory pristine  Another thing I've found, is that wearing a 'vintaged' watch, means no-one pays it any attention, so it avoids the whole "Is that a real Rolex?" question :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Hello TJ...got t meaning. OK then...ill get a tin box, falf fill it with sand, put a dozen of sharp edged stones, put my 5517 rep in,firmly close it... n give it a hell of a shake hoping that barbecue was not t best idea for fading a watch

  12. This is an ofrei pearl fitted to a standard MBW insert. The insert is very soft so I carefully opened up the hole from both side with small file. If you drill it and the drill catches I think you will distort the insert.

You also need to sand the insert thinner, so it goes further into the bezel, creating a small lip.

    DSCN4501.jpg

Wow man...i just love vintage "no dates".U have a jewel on your wrist. Is it really a MBW? I must have one!!!

  13. thanks kbh this insert came with the 15min graduation on my yuki 6538 case and yuki sent me the correct insert later, its only going to be stored in my drawer so why not in the sun!

...guys..guys...what r u trying to do? Whom r u trying to fool by scratching your reps with sandpapers knives brillos and stones...or baking or throwing from t balcony...(yes AEROMATIC it's me again, your guardian angel). The only one u fool...is your selves first n then all t others..(well...not all of them).Let your timekeepers age naturally n physically,n let em remind u...not only what time is...but olso the memories of each scratch.Start writing your own story on your watches by wearing them everyday n all times n don't mind where u hit em.The most hilarius of all,was that guy who baked t bezel with some cookies...well man...next time make some barbecue to age your dial n tell us what happened

  14. Very nice project, faulty here n there as a Rollie rep, but an awesome watch, I'd seriously consider the idea of a new dial, with original logo or something, really an interesting model, specially that odd, but good looking crown. With a Sdome and an endlinked mesh bracelet, I'd def go for it. But that is personal.

    Keep us updated, mate.

Hey Crab...thanks for liking my work.Like AEROMATIC said, those are reps n cost no more than $300 but once having a good case and the knowledge of tools n machinery the rest is a piece of cake...and a yammy one.Pics speak for themselves but on the wrist...it's a whole different story. Thanks again

  15. It's great that George is able to custominze his own watches to make what he feels is a cool watch. His execution doesn't really fit my tastes but great to see more creations like this.

Thank u GAVIDOC...it's really a pleasure to hear from people all over the world that appreciate your work, even not being tasteful to them but being openminded like u. Thanks again

  16. Hello George loiz point taken! your welcome! but dates on subs transformed the submariner from a tool watch to a bleep, bleep, bleep watch!

actually i own a few date subs reps too. how about making me a red submariner no date dial? love the red sub with a thick cystal

like on your comex! and i wouldent part with my fave vintage gmt pepsi, but my fave vintage sub reps no dates are something else as you said clean appearance! hey find that old lum paint of yours ( hope its not still radio active?)i will be coming down your workshop, i want to re-lum my 1665 comex dial ,mabe do my 5513 too! :bangin: aeromatic!

...by the way AEROMATIC...who is hammering who?

Any time AEROMATIC but...to be safe...wear your antiradioactive suit...just in case...oh...bring your voodoo doll n some pins n nails to cast out bad spirits...u know what i mean

  18. Hi crab thanks mabe my friend (george loiz)will find time away from his projects to thank you himself! yes this is not meant to represent a vintage rolly in orginal factory state, this is a customised watch like a custom/hot rod car! there are classic car restorers and hotrodders mostly they dont mix but i bend both ways i can appreciate a great franken made to look like the gen and a customised watch i would consider putting in a custom made dial without any rolex markings my friend has made a awsome black dial with white markers! :victory:

I hate dates...(not the fruit, not dating women)...but date windows on diving watches. They happen to destroy the whole appearance of the dial...besides...who wants to know what date is...37 meters under water, when the only thing that matters down there, is the 40 minutes of oxygen that support you from not dying from asphyxiation. Take my word...i know.Thats why i build my own timekeepers with simple, good vision, well read under water dials...ETA movements and extra gasketing.Good reps have eccellent cases so...it's not the case,it's the sealing that counts.Give my regards to CRAB who liked my work.Thank u 2...AEROMATIC

  19. Man..u r amaizing.Im a lathe worker myself n i made a few great things on this superb machine n i know exactly how you felt when this "monster" was over.Im a ROLEX collector n i know the whole story of this watch...BRAVO !!! Ill put some pics later on of some rolex reps that i modified in better water resisting n better looking watches.Super job

  20. Hey AEROMATIC man your rolly is eccellent..(yeah..tell me about it).I have a few good replicas myself that i fully modified to better water resisting n better looking rolexes.I am a big lover of vintage rollys but..like u said,u have to mortgage your house to get a beauty like the one u r wearing. If u r wondering who is sending this..........IT'S ME MAN...
