  1. That Alinghi is atrocious. Nothing like the real thing. Stick with the seconds@12 Offshore rep because something like this can only disappoint. The genuine Carbon Alinghi is like nothing else. It's an amazing material and extremely comfortable to wear for such a large watch.
  2. Happy Thanksgiving to all those Canadians out there on this board! A wonderful time to just sit down, reflect and be thankful for what you have.
  3. My stock portfolio's value dipped more than 30%, as well as my mutual funds have fallen 20%. I had $300K in financial stocks, and they're now worth less than $70K. And yes, I am calculating these figures from my initial investment, I was up more than 30% at one point, and all of it disappeared with another few hundred Ks. Fan-****ing-tastic. However, I'm very thankful for what I have remaining. Much more than a comfortable lifestyle, and with twins on the way, life could not get any better for me. For a number of blessings, there has to be the downs. I'm also especially thankful that I am no longer in the banking industry, going into academia proved to be a much better life experience for myself even though it does not pay much.
  4. The HKTAN strap is quite tantalizing. Don't kick me in the nuts for this, but that Safari hornback is a little too worn out for my liking, it looks much better when brand new. I actually threw one out that looked like that not too long ago.
  5. Sadly, what most of V said is true. Hence, why I'm never on the board, but do and will continue to support it.
  6. Best of luck to Rolex increasing sales in economic conditions like this. It's going to be self-adjusting in the end, there'll just be more discounts as dealers are going to pile up with inventory from the economic crisis. Look at prices for watches in the last 2 months, they've been coming back down to earth, with the Green glass Milgauss taking a huge hit, falling from $14K at the release, to about $7500 now.
  7. Congrats! Now when you're going to the US, it'll be much more convenient. I can't wait when I can get Portuguese nationality through marriage- I just need to wait another 18 months or so.
  8. Just looking for clarification- don't take offense to it. Good day. Being a customs auction would probably explain the majority of it. I would expect Norway not to have a huge market for people into AP, or a lot of enthusiasts would miss these small auctions as they're not really advertised. I've seen some dirt cheap deals at Canada Customs auctions seizures on brands like Vacheron Constantin, Breguet and more "obscure" brands. Again, the principle here is don't treat it as a loss of $20K- there's plenty of potential gold mines out there, whether it's through the stock market, real estate, etc. You just need to do your research well and make wise decisions. Yes I realize that this is a "quick profit" thing, but just too many other chances in life to get hung up on this.
  9. Going back to the original topic: Where's the listing? I find it highly improbable it went for $20K... it could have been a last minute shill by the seller who had a proxy bid of $40K, to prevent anyone from snatching it up at $20K. No real collector is that stupid to let it go for $20K. If it's Fleabay, it's also likely the auction was fake or by a hijacked account, a lot of too good to be true deals on eBay are scams from hijacked accounts (you can tell by long inactivity, or the seller normally deals in low value items) Also, the moral is you do not "lose" money that you COULD have hypothetically earned- otherwise I would claim I have lost millions as I didn't snatch up some stocks I was planning to... I went and bought something like $50K worth of Bear Stearns when it collapsed and I was kicking myself for not buying more. It didn't mean that I lost a few $100K though.
  10. Anyone having problems with the phone simply not turning on? No matter how long I hold the button it won't turn on, but when I plug it in it shows it as fully charged.
  11. After using it for a week... I have to say the phone looks great, but the OS sucks... it would definitely be a giveaway to anyone. I'm also losing signal very easily, and getting anywhere from 2-6 bars inside my house and my office, when my iPhone and N95 are full bars. The finish of the screws out the outside of the phone are also a bit rough, looks like someone use the wrong sized screwdriver as the screws on mine are really chewed up. As for whoever filed the PP dispute- they need to be banned... I'm amazed people still haven't learned that a PP dispute is going to be a total disaster when it involves reps... and unfortunately Sql got caught in the crossfire because he was simply doing the community a favour.
  12. Thanks for the review- it's looking better than expected!
  13. I received mine today as well. Great phone, thanks Maciek for organizing this.
  14. PhD student and Adjunct Professor in Operations Management. I'm also a part-time private financial consultant.
  15. I want a black one. PM sent.
  16. I'll ask the same question I asked almost a year ago... is it real diamonds? What is the quality? With the recent price increase, this thing would easily push the $200,000 barrier bought from an AD... I saw one very similar to this (albeit in platinum) for US$320,000 in an ADs window.
  17. My goodness. Mine has stopped this morning too.
  18. "Yawn", looks terrible and horribly overpriced. That's Hublot for ya.
  19. Must step in and say this statement is flawed. The servicing+refinish costs over $1,200, I have my Black Themes in for servicing right now and I'm being charged CHF 1,500. You cannot swap the movement in the AP for one of these cheap watches- the genuine APs use a JLC base and have a gold rotor while these cheaper watches use an ETA base but the same Dubois Depraz module. The movement in an AP is a JLC movement (much more valuable) with a Dubois Depraz screwed on top.
  20. Only users of it would know. Now... back to the topic. I think the chances of finding the idiot who did this is absolute zip now, given that basically the community is calling for his head. Oh well, let this be a lesson to everyone... DON'T POST PICS OF YOUR REPS ON GEN FORUMS!!!!!!!!
  21. My theory that the Tachymetre scale is off is probably due to the added thickness of the new movement, that they have to make it more angled in order to fit the case. The dial may be correct, but I think because the movement is thicker, the Tachymetre has to be "shorter" by making it more angled. Also, I think that the crown being higher is an issue with the Asian 7750 itself. On the genuine, the only reason the crown is lower in relation to the chrono pushers is because it is a modular movement, which in all cases mean the chrono pushers are placed higher than the crown.
  22. One really noticeable flaw IMO is the bad "Tachymetre" font on the chapter ring.
  23. You would need a gen dial to pull this off- and they're hard to find and very expensive.
  24. I love reading slay's posts.
  25. Still waiting for the gen to come back from the service center. Was expecting it to come back 2 weeks ago, but I'm being told it'll be August now.
