  1. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

One of my favorite things about BK's watches is the fact that you KNOW you will be getting a genuine ETA movement and that he has them regulated by a watchsmith in China (at least mine was). Mine is +4 sec/day.

I also want to say something about the steel color conversation that has been going around here. The steel on my BK noob DSSD is definitely lighter and brighter than the steel on my other sub replicas. Whether it is any different than the Trevor DSSD, I don't know. I may order a Trevor sub and do a comparison to answer the question once and for all. We'll see.

Good to hear about the steel, I guess we all just want it as good as it gets.

  2. Yeah. There is virtually zero gap in the endlinks.

I know it's a tough call whether to go with Trevor's or BK's as they are both great pieces. One thing I find kind of amusing is that a couple flaws on both are the same flaw, just in the opposite direction. It looks to me like the bezel triangle on the gen is curved on top, but with a larger radius than the bezel (so it looks less curved than the bezel). The BK (noob) makes the radius about the same, if mot slightly smaller as the bezel (making it look more curved than the bezel), while Trevor's makes it flat. The other thing I think where they are both wrong, but opposite is the hour markers outer ring. I think noob is too wide and Trevor is too narrow. Too bad we can't put each watch in a room together and wait for them to mate and create the perfect watch! :winkiss: I guess we all just have to pick which looks more correct to his/her eye.

I will say that there is one thing on my particular watch that I need to address, and that is the paint on the rehaut engraving is a little sloppy and needs to be cleaned up. I couldn't see it at first, but after looking at close up pics and through a loupe, I saw the "K" in "LOCK" and the "A" in "VALVE" need a little work. Now I just need to figure out how to take it apart.

I noticed the difference in triangles earlier today aswell. But with an endlink fit like that I think I am going to have to go with BK myself, a real dealbreaker for me!

  3. Also, good news, checked USPS tracking and Trevor's watch has cleared Customs. Should have it tomorrow. I will check with some of the guys in my area and see if anyone has a BK DSSD or a DSSD that shares BK's serial number. Hope I can find one to compare :)

If you could do that it would be great! That should clerify and sheed some light on this matter.

I think it is a bit like Jkay said a few posts ago. Maybe all new DSSD are made of the same steel, and that someone found ETZ old stock that was made of an even brighter steel and are now selling those. If jake48 can take a comparison pic that should clear things up a bit.

  4. I just went to check BKs DSSD thread on RG and saw that he has just updated the description. He states:

"according to the factory and other dealers, the steel is 316L or 316F. My point is this the same steel as what other dealers claim, the best the factory offers"

Then I guess all is well, BKs DSSD should have the right bright/white shine to the steel. Like the right watch in the post a bit above. Or have I totally got things wrong this time?

  5. The photos you posted are a comparison between the v5 2009 and the v5 2010 models. Is that what you intended? BK carries the Noobfactory DSSD, and Trevor sources the v5 2010 model.

In case anyone is still reading, the cartel v3/v5 Ultimate is also the Noobfactory watch.

So if I understand this correctly v5 2010 and v5 Ultimte are two different versions? If the v5 Ultimate is the Noobfactory one, is that the one that BK offers?

  6. old V5steel DSSD on left new steel dssd on the right:

again.. old V5 on the left new one on the right: (notice the font is slightly bolder on the new one.. not sure if it's more accurate.. but i think it looks great!)

These are the pics that got me thinking. The difference in shine is quite obvious, and for me this is quite an important issue. I have no problem paying for BKs DSSD, but if the steel is this different between Trevors and the Noob DSSD I might as well get Trevors and send it to BK for him to do his magic. Might cost me a bit more but the result should be worth it.

Anyone have a comparison shot of BKs Noob and Trevors? That should settle it once and for all.

  7. I agree, a list of good aftermatket straps for the BP would be good to have. I am in the market for a replacement strap myself, black gator (maybe ostrich)with black stitching, and so far I have found;

    OEM, HKTAN, Straplux and Gorilla.

$400-500 is a bit steep for me and I would rather spend less than on the watch itself. HKTAN and Gorilla have a price more to my liking b.

Do anyone have a tip for a lower price alternative?
