  1. I reccomend Xikar.

They have a lifetime warranty, and whenever they break (which any butane lighter eventually will - from leaks, or dirty jets), I just mail it back to them and they send me a new one. I have two so I always have one handy. I've probably done this 3 or 4 times over the years and without shame in doing it because it is their guarantee.

As well, their lighters have built in cigar hole makers on the underside.

(be sure to pick up some compressed air if you're getting into butane lighters, and some isopropyl alcohol, to clean the top jets from time to time.)

    Hope this helps.

  2. Hi Guys,

I know this might technically fall under "watch repair", but I wanted to post in the General Discussion forum so that more of the regular peeps would see this thread and my story.

So I bought this watch (http://www.amazon.co...XC/ref=pd_ybh_1) for my girl for Valentines. I knew the band wasn't the greatest in the world, but liked the face. Anyways, for some reason I thought that there would be a multitude of Michael Kors specific interchangable watch bands in the aftermarket, like there is for Panerai. But there isn't as far I as can see.

Now I do have some experience with adjusting these bands with a watch tool kit I picked up for my own watches, but I don't know a couple of things that I would like your help on, please.

-Subjectively, and in your horological and esteemed aesthetic opinion, what kind of band would you recommend that you think might best suit this watch? I am thinking white leather perhaps, or something other style that I hope you can suggest?

-Where do I source the right band. I've never ordered a replacement aftermarket band before, and don't know how to going about doing so based on the watch's specs. Are there actually Michael Kors specific replacement brands out there that I just haven't been able to find?

Thank you in advance guys (and girls? :)) for your help with this. I look forward to reading your replies.

    Have a great Friday!

  3. 7 for all Mankind

    because:

    - they have a stretch to them and fit snug

    - their dark blue straightleg is near black and very dressy and can be worn at night in a dressy ensemble.

But mainly because of their color, cut and stretch.

  4. ..and parsed through the series?

I find the Ceramic BB <2-3 weeks by TT, attractive> , but then some similar Tourbillons (non-faux), also seem attractive too, though in the circa 700 $ range :

At that price, would you choose the AP Tourbillon over the BB. ?

AP0136B - Jules Audemars Skeleton Tourbillon SS/LE Black Tourbi

AP0029 - Jules Audemars Tourbillon WG Black

AP0134B - Jules Audemars Skeleton Tourbillon RG/LE Black Tourbi

AP0134A - Jules Audemars Skeleton Tourbillon RG/LE White Tourbi

AP0136A - Jules Audemars Skeleton Tourbillon SS/LE White Tourbi

The King BB is too big I think for me.

In terms of the BB series, if not AP, I am currently tossed up between the following 3 watches linked:

    HUB043A - Mag Bang Limited Ed RG/TI/RU Grey A-7750

OLDHUB127 - Big Bang Black Ceramic Black Magic A-7500 28800 bph

    VS NEW (2-3weeks) HUB0139 - Hublot Big Bang Evolution SS/CER/LE Black - Asia 7750

HUB090A - Big Bang Tourbillon RG/RU Black Flying Tourbillon

As well, seriously tossed up about this non ceramic Stainless Steel version, also 1:1, $10 Cheaper. Also, this caught my eye on first glance, originally..

    HUB0141 - Big Bang Evolution SS/SS/LE Blk A-7750 28800 bph

Good taste? Your honest opinions please...

By the way, I am not a TT sponsor, and am in the 7-10K watch passing range.

My preferance is for Silver and Black, although , Iam not averse to trying out Rose Gold.

28,000 bph movement is a definite. Am i wrong in thinking that the 7750 valjoux is the only option in this

genre? Also, is Double AR over Single AR worth it? vs. the compromise in available stock watch options? If i limit myself to stock Double AR

    Thanks for your input Guys!

  6. Thanks offshore. Appreciate the reply :)

I will keep looking and keep you guys posted on what I find. and hopefully add to the body of knowledge on the interwebs about this :D in case someone else has the same issue.

Heh, I'm talking like its figured out already! without the having to buy a watch for parts.

By the way, which Rolexes use lugs? I've never seen that before.

  7. I've since learnt through google (see the second link for esslinger.com), that these are called lug screws.

If I measure end to end to end on the watch, these are 24mm in length. Now I don't think I can get an exact match for the Pasha through these screws, but if I buy a Pasha Quartz for $108, and use it lugs for my missing one, I'm thinking I can retrofit a 24mm lug onto the Quartz and gift it to a friend.

I still would like to keep the 2nd Pasha bracelet though and use it on a watch that takes that strap - couldn't find any with the tang outside style (i think its called) on trustytime. Any recommendations for that with regards to future watch shopping? as well, any recommendations on lug sellers?

Thanks guys. I know its a long thread now, but learning process ya know.. :)

  8. What other types of watches accept bands like the ones that fit on the above watch? I am considering a swap solution and it might help me to look for suitable bands for the donor watch after the swap. As well it would help find other brands that accept the spare black cartier strap (if i do that).

But then I would still need spare outer screws for this type of band in the transplant..

  9. Hi Guys,

First time noob watch and repair post.

Today I noticed I lost a pivot screw on my Pasha Seatimer Chrono's band. Its like a screw that fits into a threaded hole. The other 'screws' remaining rotate freely, never ending in a screwed end point (I'm guessing this is so, to allow the band to move :p)

I've included some pictures. I cannot find the lost piece and really don't want to switch bands - the band is unique and one of the things that drew me to the watch in the first place..my first watch in fact. I purchased this from TWG fwiw and I'm not sure if he stocks this piece.

Thanks. I appreciate your help with this.

  10. Hi Guys,

    Hope you are well.

I've had my first rep for about a month now, and when it got its first bezel scratch I was like " :black_eye:

Now over the course its got a few nicks along the rim and I mind it less. But its still there.

How do you guys deal with/think of this with your watches?

Its kind of hard to find a replacement bezel in my case too, and I'm still very new to be doing that. Slooowly I plan to get a second Rep but I still love this one, nicks and all.

However, do these things make the watch look cheap or more vintage, with time?

Incidentally, the Tourbillon Sport is the one that started my interest in Cvstos :)

Edit: Oops, didn't see Ops mention of no tourbillons. Pretty watches tho rite?

Anyways, I also wanted to add this picture book I came across that also has some nice watches you might like repped.

  12. My 2c as a relative noob to this hobby... I'm a member of all the rep forums and this one has taught me the most. This place is like an archive of information. I didn't even really know how a watch worked a few months ago and I had a couple gens then. Now I have more reps than gens and I'm modding and servicing them myself thanks to the info here. The other forums have good stuff too, but i mainly go to them for sales forums to see what's on the market.

    Quality vs. quantity...

    +1

and what Zigmeister wrote in his last paragraph as well.

I prefer the maturity of this forums info and posts. I peeked at RG once and might look again when they update their polls for best reps, but that about encompasses my interest in that forum. Plus visually it lacks some finesse.

Thank you for the reviews, watch checks and primers (Zig's movement one esp) guys. It helps me learn. And fwiw, I visit this forum as the last webpage I read everynight. A mellow and classy place to end the night, i think.

  13. Thanks for the replies guys. Glad to hear your insights on EMS :)

So good news. I received my first rep today. 9 business days after the initial purchase.

Soon after receiving it, I altered my day and went to the local department store Watch-stand.

I needed a link removed and read up on here after about "1 finger gaps" and things. Takes some getting used to, the 42mm form factor that is. Anyways, I didn't think about it at the time, but realized when I was getting my watch back, that this was the first time it would be put under a professional scrutiny. His only comment was "thats a heavy watch."

After a few hours of wearing my first rep, I can see why people have more than one in their collection..something I couldn't quite wrap my finger around before.

Also, while theres great artisan ship involved in making this and other good reps, I can also see why at this price point, given time, other members decided to go with gens too.

I think thats a long way to go for me at this stage mind you.

I look forward to meticulously choosing another rep sometime in the future now that I've seen what they can do, and am looking forward to enjoying this one. Thought I might share this newbs experience with you :pardon:

  14. Hi Guys,

I had planned to go into much more detail initially, between Gents. But I thought it better to instead simply post this open ended question.

Have you ever felt or experienced, the situation or inuendo of,.. an indecent proposal coming from your female Realtor and you..?

  15. Hey there guys,

Maxman, I wanted to mention a few days ago. :) As soon as you mentioned Black Laqueur (combined with your esteemed, not to be disregarded post-count), I immediately put in a request to change my Rosewood to Black.

(it appears Acetimer's rep is on vacay according to his voicemail btw)

But fwiw, even if he still sends me the Rosewood, this newb' is still going to pay for the postage to get the Black laqueur, as Your post-Countness' recommends ;) j/k

    Black laqueur ftw!
