  1. I've been trawling the bay for a 6694 with papers or a complete set but its soo rare. There are some for just under a grand but its with touchup, refinished dials, new bracelets, crystal or crown and no papers etc. Does anyone know if a rolex authenticity verification at the svc center can also tell me if the dial is refinished or parts are original or changed? Thanks for replies BT and Fred
  2. Looking for opinions on the current value of a 1976 6694 Gen with papers from AD and serviced 4 yrs ago at rolex center. Its a silver hands black dial Rolex Precision. Condition is about 85-90%, inside mvmt is clean and no rust. Case back inside is marked 6694 and the usual.. TIA Not actual pic, just for reference.
  3. Ahh... i use my 85mm for insects and flora and fauna... You need a fast lens for that
  4. Even later i have arrived - But only cos i just received my Gen from Dani .. Thanks Bro! I have 3 other measurements in btw, let me know if you need em Hope this solves your question once and for all BTW, the inner measurement for the buckle is 20mm
  5. Hey OS, the prices in clubsnap marketplace are all in SGD (Singapore Dollar), So $1k SGD is roughly GBP503 or USD723. Just taking a browse, i've found this D90 set (near mint) going for 1k (neg). http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=701215 Btw, i am in Singapore. So yeh, i meant that i can bring it up to London (Up since i'm on the equator... ) but you'd have to wait till end June cos that's when my trip is. For lenses, see my previous reply on possible combinations with the D90. It really depends on your budget but my current setup is a Tokina 11-16mm for UWA (Ultra wide), Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 (tack sharp), Nikon 50mm f1.4, Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 and I'm looking for a Nikon 85mm f1.4 for macro shots.. Shoot me a PM if you need my help buying the set, bringing to you etc. But i must let you know that Nikon body warranty is valid only in the country of purchase, the lenses have worldwide. As an alternative, a very decent camera at great value is the older D80. Very similar build to the D90, lacking the fps, video, live capture, AF points and MP...
  6. where did the photos go? Its kindof hard reading the tutorial with nothing to relate to...
  7. Plus you gotta wonder the surprise the watchsmith is gonna get finding his whole desk full of some oily liquid when he pops the hood for a battery change or something... or in my case, he sees some jalapeno or olive oozing out from my watch along with the olive oil
  8. I was going to suggest killing one of my seikos and extra virgin olive oil.
  9. Just noticed from several dealer's websites, some stating that it's a genuine stripped down quality replica, that they are offering the Sinn Ux in Swiss ETA 2836. Do take a read below and also on Sinn website about HYDRO tech and why the GEN is only in Quartz. The outside cosmetic might be a 90% fit but the inside is 100% out. Plus of course, it will never do what HYDRO is supposed to do, read the dial at almost every angle underwater. An absolute must for a diver's watch HYDRO Absolutely free from fogging, pressure-resistant at any accessible diving depth and perfect readability from any angle under water
  10. Hey MemberX, you're right about the factories running out of stock for now. But my dealer has informed me that they have run out of stock for a few parts. Once those parts come in, they'll start making SOH V2 again. So maybe its a good idea not to break your bank snapping up 2nd hand ones for now... Unless my dealer has been misinformed.. but then again, their source is the same so no reason for that. Cheers
  11. The other obvious way is to dangle a GEN watch and draw them out.. cos within seconds, they will take it apart and produce 49042390482 reps, with the same serial number of course.
  12. Camera shops will always try and clear their old stock when given the chance. I would forget the 450D or 1000D and just go either for the 500/550 or D90. Just to mix it up a bit, since macro photography may be 1 of your main use.. you can consider a 4/3 Panasonic GF1 or an Olympus. I have the GF1 as well, images are sharp and colours beautiful. Lenses are pricey for this newer standard however.... If you ever stop by Singapore or Hongkong on transit or for a short getaway... pick up your camera and even a bloody big screen TV whilst you're here. Prices here are the lowest i know, brand new or used. If you're in the market for a used D90 or Canon, take a look at www.clubsnap.com, there's a nice marketplace forum there and 2-3 month old camera eq going for solid prices. Know what? I'm headed to London end of June, if you can wait till then, i can bring it up to you, all for the price of a smile and an offer of friendship. Cheers
  13. Was shopping for a single watch travel case for up to 44mm and after a prolonged stakeout on the bay, finally ended up with this.. Got off a dealer in the end. Very decent finishing and ideal for my needs! I use the softpouch for travel, fits my skyland snugly
  14. +1 for the Sinn U1/U2 but do beware of there is a reported problem with the asian mvmts for Sinn U1. I recently got a swiss 2836 U2, absolutely loving it and it runs beautifully. G
  15. Same rules for handbags.. best grades are hidden, ie dun pay for anything that's on display... Have fun!
  16. Can i spoil the fun and use 2 mirrors for the 'hall of mirror' effect...? Ok guess not.. keep the shots going and let's see how small the original shot becomes
  17. Its a good chance to learn another language! Haha... My rusty french means i'd probably only know 2 in 10 words... So all you need is to find someone who can handle the remaining 80% haha.
  18. Well Fijiman, if you've did a search in the other related threads.. you might have come across the almost ludicrous price range you get quoted for reps. Just take for example a MB pen. The very basic std issue black MB pen at first quote goes for RMB100. I used to think slashing it down to RMB20 was an achievement, till i was with my colleague who promptly slashed and haggled in English with them till he got RMB5 per pen. AND he bought 1 only in the end. I ended up buying 10! So if you ask me about prices... I can tell you what a decent value you should get roughly.. Display watches outside, crappy reps - RMB150-200 the most. (About 20-30USD) Quartz are generally cheaper by 50-100RMB and if you ask me, last longer than the crappy rep automatics. The slightly higher grade reps in the alu boxes can vary ALOT. RMB400-1000 easily depending on the watch and quality. The difference in weight, sapphire glass (They will use a key and scratch the surface to show you) and finishing is apparent. FInally the AAA grade, mostly in hidden trap doors etc, 1000-3000 RMB, and for these, the prices are pretty rigid cos their cost price is really high for these. Do remember all these prices are estimates after all your haggling, shouting, smirking, walking away, rolling on the floor laughing, Looks of disbelief and the theatrical works of which i have done almost all except ROFL. Hope this helps. Oh yah, remember that if you do get them to show you the hidden door, haggle and reach a price you agree and NOT buy. Make sure they're no sharp objects nearby and you can run really fast...
  19. Most excellent.. What is watchlume powder and binder?? Does he make his own or its actually a known brand like AF? Can' wait to see the end results. K, lemme look round my kitchen. 1) toothpick - check 2) plastic spoon - check 3) chopstick - check 4) LEd light - check 5) lume powder - coming 6) binder - coming 7) PAM dial - ok who's sending it to me?
  20. Having bought several reps from Shanghai, Nanjing, Beijing etc... my advice is stick to asian movements. You can never verify that the movement is swiss eta like they claim and you will be charged almost 5-10x the price of a normal chinese rep. Its called AAA grade. I have been told crap like the price higher if its Korean, Hongkong, Japanese, Swiss movement in that order... Also note that when buying reps, whatever you see displayed is always crap. The slightly decent stuff is kept in aluminium boxes and the even higher grade is kept either behind a false wall or even a false ceiling where you have to climb a ladder to enter Rep heaven. But be prepared to pay, if you see the works and buy nothing.... get ready to run really fast. Lastly, know your watches and prices. Go with pictures etc, they have the usual catalogues for every brand imaginable but that's only a front pic. Enjoy! and do post some pics. Oh yah, if your watch dies 5 minutes after working away... forget about getting a replacement cos in their records... you never bought nothing from them! G
  21. Thanks for the article.. been a while since i read this one. Now if only there were nice write ups with BIG pictures on the process of luming the dials and hands..
